I've been overweight my entire life - since I was 7 or 8 - and, like everyone else here, have been on diet after diet where I would initially be successful but then ultimately just gain the weight back, plus more.  Initially when considering bariatric surgery I looked at gastric bypass but thought it was just too drastic.  There was also a 3 to 5 year wait to have it done in Canada!!  I'm 56 - I figured I'd be dead by then, so began looking at the lapband and right away knew it was the answer.  I attended a presentation by Northwest Weightloss Surgery in Richmond, BC on Jan. 16, 2010 .... had my initial consultation & psych eval on Jan 22 and my surgery on Feb 18, all the while doing hours and hours of research on the lapband.  I lost 14 lbs pre-op and am looking forward to a whole new lifestyle with this tool to help guide me.  I have lost and gained several hundred pounds during my lifetime - the last time in 2003 when I lost 65 lbs and then moved to a new province where, over the past 5 years, I regained all of those 65 lbs, plus another 20.  Same old story, just a different time and place.  Finally, with the band, I feel as though I have a chance to avoid those mistakes of the past.  I know it's not going to be easy, but it can't be as hard as being 140 lbs. overweight!!
