    Maladaptive Eating

Sounds like your band needs loosening. Ask your physician to remove some of the Fluid.

    Acid Reflux & Vomiting

Anyone with experiencing gas and bloating? A quarter teaspoon of baking soda will do the trick. This will work almost immediately. Warning, if you have high blood pressure be careful with the sodium content.
  5. I absolutely would not have weight loss surgery again. It has nothing to do with me not meeting my goal; I am successfully meeting my goal. I had the single incision surgery and developed a hernia as a result. I had surgery (hernia repair) last year--and now the hernia is back again. I am also tired of eating a spoon of food and my stomach bloating. The next day I can eat the same food and nothing happens. My doctor is saying he can repair it with a mesh, he should have done this in the beginning. Now my doctor is stating that there is some new and updated port and he can change my port--no way. I told him if he has to change my port , I would just have it removed. I have learned behavioral modification, so I would just need to continue with the behavior and exercise. What I am afraid of if there is a recall of the device and I have no self control over food. It's not the band-it's up to the individual to practice behavioral modification.

    I don't get it.

Many thanks for the welcoming responses. We must all remember, we did not go to the operating table and under the knife for nothing. With that being said, we should only look for- and accept postive results.

You are absolutely correct. The band alone will not do it; is up to the individual to practice behavioral modification. There is some procedure called banding over the band????? This is when some banders feel the band produced no results. Not “gradually” moving away from the old eating habits will eventually cause weight gain. After overcoming two Achilles tendon surgeries, being in a cast for five months--in my opinion was no reason for me to gain 15 pounds. This weight gain was as a result of drinking juice, little Snacks here and there, the list went on and on. I absolutely did not need to accept these food items, nor was I forced to eat them. The weight gain was totally my fault and not the band. I quickly caught myself and got back on track. I stopped people from bringing me junk. I split my plate of food in to two (lunch and dinner). I took small bites; allowing time for the food to register to my brain that I was actually full. I had to really overcome “taste” again, and I worked my upper body while watching a program called Sit and Be Fit. Once out of my cast, I pushed myself to walk distance regardless of the excruciating back pain from being in the bed for months. I can now walk at a minimal of five miles plus a day. If I can get back on track after two surgeries, hospitalization and strict bed rest, anyone can. The band alone won’t do it! I was totally discussed, but again

Am I Doing Ok For Being Almost 3 Weeks Post Op?

Hi sexymomma001. It sounds like your band might be a tad too tight. Or, you are eating far too much (heavy foods) through the day. I.e., I do not think that you should be eating both grits, oatmeal and potatoes in the same day. Grits is a heavy food and so is the oatmeal. Protein shakes and potatoes are heavy as well. I think that you should see a nutritionist. also, you might need to determine if you are revisiting your old eating habits. The old habits are not going to break over-night. And the band is not the cure all to weight loss--behavioral modification is.
  9. How is everyone doing? And the weight loss? Anyone develop a hernia after surgery? if so, how was the issue addressed--any suggestions? I was banded in feb 2010. Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Good luck !!! I am just kind of stuck and don't know what is happening? I started at 252, I am now 231. I feel that I should have lost more weight by now. I am getting the water in daily--60 oz, along with exersizing for at least 30-45 minutes. The exersize program I just started on my own within the last two weeks so I should begin to see a difference. Aside from that I have been walking about .5 miles a day, along with going up and down the NYC train stairs. My physician said that my band is adjusted to loose 1-2 lbs a week. I will go back to him to get a fill. Any suggestions? My goal weight is 175
  12. Wow, you really ate well! I was banded on the 24th of Feb--I am on liquids and clear... until Thursday of this week. My main problem is the gas, and my thought of the band slipping if i over do it. As for the nausea, i am trying not to go there because the constant regurgitation may cause the band to slip as well. I am using these two weeks along with the pre-op diet..., to change my old eating habits. I think that we have to pay careful attention to the "zones". If we are eating to much-the band more than likely needs tightening, and visa versa. Well, best of luck to all.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Were you afraid of your band slipping or becoming ill? How are you doing now--3/01/10?? Thanks.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I am on clear liquids for two weeks-or as per the instructions. I have no problems swallowing. If you are expierencing any problems with swallowing, you should immediately call your physician. Most of the research i have seen where a persons has problems swallowing is because of the foods they are eating. I think 2 weeks was and still is too soon to eat solid foods--pureed or not. Again, this is based on the research that i have seen on various sites. here is a link which will offer you a wealth of information as to protein drinks as per the ""Bariatric dieting requirements" Bariatric Liquid Protein & RTD's For A Gastric Bypass Surgery Diet your local health food stores may have the items as well. I am terrified to eat any solid or mushed foods. I want to stay on the clear for at least two weeks and graduate to say --baby food texture. This will give the stomach time to heal and avoid regurgitation (i hope).

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

how is she eating regular foods only after two weeks? Tell her that she is defeating the purpose and wasting funds. That is one of the reasons why you are sent for a psychological evaluation so that it is understood that this is all up to you--the band can do it for you alone. Moreover, she is waiting her time by not listening to herself and the band. She must be getting sick??

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I was banded on the 24th of Feb. The only real problem that I can honestly say is the fact that I caught a really bad head cold. This probally occurred in the OR, as it is usually kind of cold in there. I was so congested to the point that i could not sleep. I was given the single incision banding. i have literally no pain tht i can say was unbearable. the pain that i do have is as if i did about 20 sit ups-muscle pain. The evening after the surgery i walked around the hospital floor twice. Of course the gassy feeling was there but.... My current weight before banding was at 250. i am from NYC. I was banded at Methodist hospital-self pay the staff was really great. After the surgery, while in recovery the entire team visited me to tell me what a great job I did. overall, I HAD A GOOD EXPIERENCE. As FOR MY NEW DIET ROUTINE, i am following this to the max. if the hungry monster tries to attack, he will need to kiss his own as.. good bye. I am not in the mood to visit any emergency room for a peice of meat to be dislodged from my gut:drool: and trying to throw up on the way to the hospital. So i am doing the juice water, clear liquid thing. Please excuse the improper caps.
  18. I agree. For the most part the pysch needs a pysch. I have pms and my pysch did not want to give me the approval. I am just going to another . The first thing she spoke of were the serious side effects of surgery-blah blah. if they are in the "pysch" world, they should understand the psychological modes that you go through trying to loose 60-70 pounds. With the banding, after following the plan-one should adapt to the new way of eating even if the band were removed. Granted the stomach will not be as small, but it should not be as large either. Moreover, a new eating behavior should be in place helping to effectively be in control of eating habits and keeping the excess weight off
  19. i would immediately call the doctor if I were you.
  20. when should the pre banding diet start? i am scheduled for surgery on the 24th of Feb.
