  1. Hey! I started a blog about my LB surgery today and wanted to get a list of all of your blogs so I can follow them! The link to my blog is http://biggirltothingirl.blogspot.com/ I hope you will follow me and I want to follow you! Thanks!
  2. Hey guys! I am 16 weeks post op as of today. I'm down 40 pounds and feeling good. But for the last 4 weeks or so I have stalled out and can't seem to lose for the life of me! In fact I've actually gained 2 pounds! I'm eating like I'm supposed to. I have good restriction (I think so anyway) and I'm doing circuit in the gym for 30 minutes a day 4 times a week plus Zumba. I don't know what's going on and I'm getting really bummed out. For a while there I was losing fast and had a pep in my step and now I feel let down bc even though I'm doing right, I'm not losing anymore! I realize 40 pounds in 4 months is awesome but I don't want to stop at 40. More like 140 lol. Does anyone have any advice in how to break this plateau? I'm getting discouraged and need some advice stat! I hope the rest of you are doing wonderfully!

    Allergic Reaction

I did the same thing. Mine started red them turned to a rash and tiny bumps. They went all the way to my sides. Mine was a reaction to whatever they used in surgery. I'm assuming a combination of dermabond glue and iodine. Lotion really well and take a benadryl. I used calamine lotion and a benadryl. The rash and bumps went away after a week and a half but the redness around my incision stayed for like three weeks and eventually turned a deep red almost purple then just faded away. Try your hardest not to scratch it. I know it seems impossible.
  4. Hello friends!!! I haven't posted in a while and wanted to do a quick update. I'm 12 weeks out and down 35.2 pounds which puts me at 263.2 I've gone from a 20 in jeans to an 18 and xxl shirts to xl. I'm ecstatic! I bought my wedding dress today in an 18 and it fit perfect. I nearly cried! I got my first fill today too. He didn't want to do it bc I'm doing so well but I don't want to be able to eat 2 slices of pizza like I have been lol. But I hope everyone is doing well and hope all of my lbt friends are doing awesome! This Sunday the 20 th will make three months so I'm hoping to be 40 down in 3 months!! I'm on full liquids for two days (boo) but oh well!

    emotional breakdown!

I don't know your personal situation of course but based on previous posts by you it appears your boyfriend is a jerk. You are trying to better yourself and I'm willing to bet that the number one reason was to try to please him. If he doesn't want you as you are now then he doesn't deserve you when you are skinny and even hotter than you are now! I know it's a lot harder than it sounds, but you need to get out now before it becomes permanent and even harder to get out of it. In a year from now you'll be the girl walking in the restaurant he's gawking over but you'll have someone else that appreciates you and respects you! Let us know how it works out!
  6. Yes! I have been craving it like crazy! I haven't eaten it yet bc I had heard it wouldn't go down well? Now this may have been strictly for the first two weeks of my post op diet and I didn't listen well enough. I'm six weeks out and would LOVE to have a spoonful of creamy peanut butter!
  7. Hey guys. I have this weird pain that started last night. It only happens when I eat. I feel like my band is closing off and I can't breathe and it hurts to move in any way. I will eat about two bites of food and it hurts in my chest so I stop. Well about an hour later I start getting that feeling like someone has punched me in the stomach. I don't have a fill and I'm six weeks out and this is the first that this has happened to me it's so painful that all I can do us lay there and cry in agony. It's awful. I was just wondering if anyone has felt this before or may e you have an idea as to what it is. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hey y'all! My first fill is Thursday and I'm SO nervous! You'd think after surgery I wouldn't be afraid of a needle prick. I know all doctors are different but I would like to know how the first fill appointment goes. I'm just wondering what to expect visit wise as well as pain wise lol. I'm such a CHICKEN! Unread that some doctors numb you and others do not. Should I ask for it? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

    First fill on Thursday!

So I went in for my fill today and he asked me how inwas doing. He told me that since I was losing so well that I didn't have to get a fill but it was completely up to me. I told him I can eat a cup if food and stay full for about 3-4 hours and he said that was good. He didn't suggest it bc he said he likes to let it do it's thing for a while without it unless I need it. So I didn't get one today. He made my next appt for my 3 month appt which is march 24. He told me that if I feel like I need a fill to just stop by and he will gladly give me one but for now he thinks I'm doing great. So I guess I will see how long this original restriction lasts. I have some already in there from surgery which is helping. I hope those of you that got one today did great. I want to know how it went!
  10. I was the EXACT SAME WAY!! I thought that I was going to be the only person in this whole Lap Band world that had the thing done and then the next day thought it was a nightmare/bad dream and wanted the thing taken out! I was so mad at myself for "messing up" my body and making myself so miserable. I just wanted to take it all back. Day 3 and 4 was the hardest for me. I wanted to eat real food and feel normal yet I was so bloated and felt even fatter than before and it hurt everytime I got up or down. But here I am, 5 weeks and 2 days post op and feeling great! I'm able to finally eat real food and go about my daily life. My port doesn't hurt and I have almost no scarring. Trust me, I didn't believe ANYONE when they said it would get better. I just didn't believe them and I hated this band more than anything and I hated myself and my "stupid" decision. But, I'm glad I did it because I'm losing weight and feeling better than before. I go in for my first fill on Thursday and I'm hoping that I get more restriction because I feel like I could eat a horse. I know you don't feel like you can eat or drink but the more you drink the better you will feel. I couldn't stand those nasty Protein shakes so I bought sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast and just doubled up on those. They taste just like chocolate milk! At first, the thought of food grossed me out but I promise you, it will get better. Just hang in there and don't let the uncomfort and pain get you down!

    First fill on Thursday!

That's supposed to be I read not unread. I'm posting from my iPhone and auto correct hates me!
  12. My doctor made us choose at our last pre op appointment. I chose the original allergen lap band. He told us that he honestly had no preference. I chose the original because he had so much experience with it and he has never had a patient gave any diffulcities with it. I asked his nurse and she said if she were picking she would pick the original so I went with that. I honestly didn't do much research bc I assumed I was getting the original anyway. All of the blogs I read that have been amazingly successful have the allergen original band as well so that helped as well. Good luck with your decision making!

Fills and adjustments costs and coverage

I'm not from NY but I have BCBS of AL and I called Thursday and found out all of my fills are covered and I don't even have a copay! My surgeon also does the first three months for free bc you are still considered post op. I would call the office and have them check your insurance for you. Hopefully it won't cost you anything!
  14. I was banded on December 20th and made it to my one month bandiversary! I am excited that I have lost 20.6 pounds all post op so far! I hated it at first but now I love it. I feel so blessed that I'm not hungry and haven't experienced "bandster hell". I also called my surgeons office today to ask about fill costs because I go in next Thursday for a check up/potential fill. She said that for the first three months they are free and she would check my insurance for me and call back. She called and said insurance pays 100% and I don't even have a copay!! I've had a great experience so far and I hope all of the other newbies have as well. I'm hoping that at this rate, I'll be ready for my wedding in no time!
  15. I have BCBS of AL. I'm also a teacher so I have the peehip policy. They told mantua first three months were free bc you are still considered post op but thankfully mine are 100% covered. I'm so glad that we are doing so great and haven't had bad moments! I guess we deserve it for having to be miserable through Christmas! lol I'm nervous about my fill too but it doesn't last long (hopefully) and it will be over before we know it. I think after the gas pains, I can handle a needle! Good luck everyone!
  16. I am four weeks out today and I got on the scale this morning and I have lost.....20.8 pounds! I am so excited about this! I know some people lose more than that in their first 4 weeks but, this is all post-op loss and I'm just happy because I never would have been able to do that without the band (even though I haven't had a fill, I have good restriction, I can eat a 1/2 to a whole cup of food and I'm good for 4-5 hours). I don't have a lot of people to talk to about it, so I wanted to share it with people who appreciate losing weight! What a Monday and a great way to start my week! I hope the rest of you are doing wonderful! Happy Monday!

    Tummy tucks and boob jobs

I think I will definitely need a tummy tuck. I carry my weight in my mid section. As far as boobs, I'm doing good to fill up an A cup lol. I will wait until I have kids to have my tummy tuck and hopefully I'll go up a cup size after a baby lol but if not I'm not worried about them right now.
  18. I'm not open about it. I don't know why. I guess it feels like "giving in" even though this has been the toughest "diet" I've ever been on. I told my mom, my fiance, and my brother. Those are the only people who know (that I know of). My brother keeps asking me why won't I just tell everyone, that it's nothing to be ashamed of and no one will say anything. I know that they won't really say anything to me, but I don't want the judgmental looks or talking behind my back etc. I have a very vocal family (on both sides) and I'm sure they would have something to say. I know that I can't just keep saying "oh, I'm dieting and drinking water" forever. Both of those are true, but why this time am I going to be able to lose SO much more than previous times and actually keep it off this time? I have a good excuse right now, because everyone thinks I'm just mega dieting for my wedding in June. That's true too. I'm sure in time when I get comfortable I will tell, but for now, it's my dirty little secret!

    Traveling after Fill

I was told by a friend of mine whose mother was banded that she had to get her fill removed before flying? I thought that was crazy so I asked my surgeon and he said no way! As long as it's a pressurized plane you will be fine. Now, I didn't ask about flying after a recent fill I just asked about removing. I would think that surely it's ok bc like you said, people get it done out of the country all the time or have to travel to get them. Which, you may not even be talking about flying and this was completely pointless lol. But if anyone reads this, maybe you can answer for me bc we are flying in June for our honeymoon!

    Salad

So I just started my transition to real foods and I have a question about salad. I can't find anything about it in my book or when I'm supposed to introduce it again. I have a lunch date with my friend this weekend at olive garden and I LOVE the salad more than anything there! I was wondering if it's safe to eat. I don't eat the peppers or olives. Just the lettuce, tomato, and onions. I like the croutons too but I will be avoiding those along with breadsticks. The bottom of the salad is usually soggy anyway so maybe it's safe? They also have light dressing. I had no idea but a friend of mine from college is a nutritionist and said that they do so I tried it last time I was there pre op and it was really good! Maybe I'm the only person that didn't know this. Anyway, do you think it wound be ok? Of course I will have to chew very well. Thanks!

    Salad

Well I haven't been recording it but everything I eat has at least 5-6 g of protein. I need to record it. I keep up with it on the daily plate but I think that only shows calories. I'll definitely get some in that morning with eggs and cheese then a string cheese snack and probably baked chicken that night. If not I can have a shake (blugh!) I just didn't know if I was at the right stage or not for salad or maybe we should hold off until next weekend when I'm more used to eating solid food again.

    Zumba anyone?

I did it before surgery and plan to once I get the green light for full gym exercise activities. I LOVE it! It is fast paced but don't worry about it. Anyone that's just starting is slow and you do catch on fast. Don't be intimidated by skinnies lol. There where women of all sizes in my class and ALL of us where sweating and out of breath and running for water in between dances! Give it a try! I like it a lot and actually bought it for myself at home so I can do it more than just when it's offered at the gym. That also let me practice at home and allowed me to be able to better keep up at the gym!
