  1. ^^^My NUT had that warning as well. As long as I'm aware of how big my sip is, the straw hasn't bothered me at all!
  2. Currently enjoying (at work): microwavable mashed potatoes with 2 wedges of Laughing Cow...yummmm. I definitely eat "purees" or "mashes" much slower than I can drink liquids - especially if it's the first thing of that thickness I've eaten during the day. However, my NUT reminded me to just continue taking it slow - we're in for a lifetime of slow eating!
  3. This is a huge debate on here...just a warning . Personally, I'm 3 weeks post-op and have been using them. I went slow at first before I knew how they'd effect me, but I love my McDonald's unsweet iced tea with my straw!
  4. I've been ROCKIN' some fat free refried beans melted with some Laughing Cow wedges....SO YUM!
  5. I don't, but primarily because in the race to get my Protein in each day, I need something with higher protein counts than they offer. I'm in a battle with myself to try to drink zero calorie beverages other than Protein shakes - although that light Starbucks frappuccino this morning was tasty! My doctor has told me to eat/drink whatever I can and want to - as long as I'm meeting my protein (70g/day), Fluid (64oz/day) and Vitamin requirements, THAT is all he cares about as I continue to heal!
  6. Welcome and good luck! I'm 3 weeks post-op today and feeling great!
  7. I use Unjury powders and, on occasion, will add something to them (i.e. PB2 is a great tasting peanut butter powder that gives you some additional protein with minimal fat intake!). To be honest, I love the base flavors of Unjury, but have learned to dazzle up my protein shakes for extra nutrition, taste, etc. My doc is fine with what I do, but each one is different!
  8. I agree with the above poster - I'm taking in anywhere from 800-1300 calories, and I only know that because I'm entering everything into MyFitnessPal so that I can track my protein. When I mentioned this to my doctor and NUT on Tuesday, they didn't bat an eye - they said they don't care about calories or weight loss right now as long as I get my protein, fluids & vitamins in.
  9. That was the response I made to my doctor...considering I started my 10 day pre-op diet roughly 1 month ago, I've lost 23 pounds since then. 23 pounds in a month? I'll take it!
  10. Honestly, my removal surgery in March was more painful post-op than having the sleeve done earlier this month. The scarring from the port removal was probably worst of all! I walked away from sleeve surgery relatively pain free - just tired . But, heck, I'll take tired over painful any day!
  11. I went to a follow-up with my doctor on Tuesday, just a few days into the "puree" stage of my post-op recovery diet. I expressed frustration at not having lost weight in the past week as I stepped on the scale (despite my head understanding all of the reasons why stalls happen, and knowing that the weight will come off eventually as I continue to do the right things). What shocked me, though, was the response from my doctor.... "I don't care about weight loss right now, it'll come off eventually!" I absolutely LOVE my doctor and appreciate that he's more interested in me making a full recovery (it's been textbook so far) than in dropping pounds as of yet...his response made me recognize that my new "tool" isn't quite ready to do it's job yet. Clearly, the post-op diet is in place to help your stomach heal and to transition slowly through diet phases in order to re-acclimate your stomach to various foods in the world. Just. Hard to wrap my "gut" around the fact that I'm not losing weight at this point, despite my head knowing what's going on. I will say, though, that it makes me excited for things to come! Anyone else had this type of response from their doctor? When did your brain reconcile with the rest of your body? I'm reminded, often, of the sentiment that "the weight didn't come ON overnight, and it will come off the same way."
  12. I didn't have to do this for any insurance requirement, but I did have a 10 day pre-op diet to shrink my liver (allows easier access to the stomach). Luckily, my insurance authorization didn't require any "6 month program" or anything like others have to.
  13. Chobani is great, as long as you buy flavored varieties - I also wasn't a huge fan of Greek yogurt pre-op, but in trying to get more protein from something other than protein shakes, I tried Greek yogurt again.
  14. I'm trying to remember that myself, having been stuck at my current weight for the past week. :::It will come off. It will come off. It will come off.:::
  15. Naked AND waffles? Sounds like a sticky situation....
  16. I brought my mini iPad and never used it...when I wasn't sleeping, I was "out of it."
  17. FYI - I had a follow up with my doctor and NUT today and asked, specifically, about calorie intake. They told me that they could care less how many calories I eat or how much weight I'm losing (or not - he said "I don't care about weight loss right now, it will come later") - it's all about protein, fluids & vitamins. I told them I'm eating roughly 800-1200 calories a day...not even an eye blink from them on that. I love my people .
  18. Who says you have to eat what you cook? Make them their dinner, then sit with them and enjoy what you're able to eat. While cooking 2 different meals sounds arduous, I find that it doesn't take much time to heat up/cook my food. You physically CAN'T eat "normal" food, so why subject yourself to it? I think it's about refocusing your meal time about the people and the conversations, not the food. Master that and you'll have the sleeve licked
  19. Heck, I'm scared at just the "no protein requirement" piece of it! I've been told to consume a minimum 70g/day to help with healing, hair loss, muscle development, etc. I've seen the protein requirement, although varied, from just about everyone on this board. How can this NUT not have one?!
  20. Here's to a flawless surgery and a speedy recovery!! Welcome to the June sleevers club!!
  21. Anxiety won't go away until after the sleeve is done, in my opinion. Read, read, read (as the poster above said), but once it's done...ta da! Sure, you'll wonder if you did the right thing at your first stall (I've been stuck at 288 for a week now!!!!), but it can't be undone...then you live with it!
  22. I had it done in two procedures - my doc feels that it is safer to take the band out, let your stomach heal from the trauma, then get sleeved approximately 3 months later. I was happy to take the safer route, and I'm now happily sleeved (would be more happy if I could get past this stall!). Every doctor is different, so I guess it all comes down to what you're okay with! Personally, I absolutely LOVE and TRUST my doctor (he is not the same doctor who I was banded with), so I was going to do whatever he said. I have heard of people on here who had to be "re-sleeved" because of the "all in one" procedure - apparently not enough stomach was taken out because it was so enlarged/irritated after band removal. You may want to talk to the "all in one" doc about that!
  23. Just found out that we got approved for the townhouse we wanted - I'll be a Germantown, MD resident on August 1
  24. My best advice is to get busy reading throughout this site - you'll find TONS of helpful information, stories & opinions that will (most likely) answer many of your questions - even the ones you didn't know you had!
  25. Looks like they got overheated! Unjury warns that temps over 140F will curdle the protein...doesn't look so safe to me!! Ewww. I'd gag just trying to swallow that!
