  1. Insurance is confusing to me. I think it's more confusing than buying a car. Buying my first car gave me a bad headache. Even though my first appointment with a surgeon is in a couple of days, I have taken the chance to start to eat healthier. So far I've lost 2 pounds. One of the members told me that she started to diet before she got the band because she thought it was silly to wait until she got the band. And this is what I'm doing. You are very young and so I am. So there is still a chance to lose weight and all is not lost if the waiting is long.
  2. This whole thread makes me sad. I'm 330 pounds, and I would LOVE to be in the 180s. However, what got me to 330 pounds was McDonalds, coke, chocolate, and candy. McDonalds is the worse. BigMacs are amazing, but have more that 1000 calories in each. I used to have 2 McChickens, 1 BigMac, 1 medium fries, and 1 large coke or iced tea all at one time. Yeaaaahhhh.... it's not fun to be a 330 twenty-two year old girl. I envy you those that are weighing in the 200s. It's my fault I got this way, so I'm paying the price - the price for my health and the price for the surgery. Good luck, and I hope you get the surgery.
  3. You should probably go over this with your doctor. I would assume that you should eat healthy foods, though.
  4. I know how you feel. I am in the process of getting the lap band, but it still makes me nervous. I'm not worried about the surgery, but about the huge lifestyle change. I think it will be worth it in the end. :rolleyes2:
  5. I scheduled an appointment with the surgeon for Thursday. The woman who works with insurance was very helpful and was very willing to help me. I'm nervous. This is all new to me. This is going to be a HUGE lifestyle change. I kind of started a diet. It's mostly portion control/calorie counting. I've lost 2 pounds, but I cheated yesterday and today. I have a problem with emotional eating. I eat my emotions mostly when I'm bored, sad, stressed or upset. Does anyone here have/had a problem with emotional eating? Has the lap band help with that? I think my problem is that I have this need to feel full. The Breakfast that I eat around 6 am wears off around 9am. At work I eat lunch at 10:30am and I'm starving by then. By 1pm I'm hungry again. I'm a certified nursing assistant and I'm not allowed to leave the floor or eat while I'm on the floor, so Snacks are out of the question mostly. Maybe I need a new job? lol
  6. Ahhhhh, thanks Sweet Pete. Now I understand. That helps a lot. I guess my body will go into shock. I have a ton of weight to lose. Gah!
  7. I'm in the process of trying to get the band. So, I've been looking at the trackers at the bottom of each post. Some of it seems insane. For example, one poster said she was banded on 12/24/09 and she had lost 33 pounds. It is currently 12/29/09. Can you really lose 33 pounds in 6 days? I did a double check of the date, and it seems a little weird to me... unless she was full of Water? Also, another poster had her band in for 3 months and lost 77 pounds. That averages about 26 pounds per month, and that seems more likely-ish? I know everyone is different, but can someone enlighten me about how much weight is lost? I'm mostly confused about the first example.
  8. I wouldn't call it slow. You've lost 12 pounds in two weeks. Normal weight loss for person without the lap band would be 2 pounds per week. Pat yourself on the back.
  9. Hiiii. My name is Amanda, and I'm 22 years old. I am in the process of thinking, lol. I think it just "came" to me that I need to lose weight badly. I've been told by my doctors that I need to lose weight, but it really didn't sink in until about now. lol I made an appointment with my GP for Wednesday. That's reallly all I know to do. I guess I'll talk to her about it. I really have no idea what to do, but I am slowly researching and I figure the GP is the first place I should go first. The insurance process makes me nervous. I have my parents insurance and all my father told me was that the insurance will cover 90% of it after $250. "Of it" is a little confusing since there are things that come with surgery like hospital stays and the such. I am 5'6" and 330 pounds. I never thought I would get this big. I also thought "one day I'll go on a diet." I guess I'm kind of late. I just hope I can get some support from my family. They are not very supportive, but I hope they realize that I'm a ticking time bomb that seriously needs help and support my decisions. Anyway, that's me in a nut shell.
