Food Hates Me
I had a lot of nausea weeks 2-6 (still get it sometimes at 9 months out). I lived off zofran for a while. I also eventually figured out that nausea was my signal I was hungry. Let your doc know. There are things he can give you. You need those fluids!!!

What Was Your Ah-Ha (Or Oh Crap) Moment?
Curious what the final straw was for you all? What finally pushed you over the edge and got you looking at bariatric surgery as an option? For me, it was chest pain. I was 36 years old, a single mom of a 5 year old, with a deceased ex-husband. I started having chest pain and had the frantic realization that if something happened to me, my son would be parentless (my parents would take him in a heartbeat...but still...). Soon after that I started my journey to a lap-band and eventually RNY. So, I'd love to hear your stories, how did you get here? (PS, my heart was fine, I think it was just God slapping my upside the head trying to get my attention)

What To Expect When They Wake Me Up In Recovery!
It varies a lot from person to person...I had an EXTREMELY dry mouth and was a little woozy (slept off and on the first few hours then once anesthesia wire off that was gone). The first night I had almost no pain at all, anywhere (yay for good drugs!!!). I don't remember being cold but I was bundled up. Really, wasn't a bad surgery at all for me, hope yours is just as easy!

Is dumping forever
My mom is 32 years post gastric bypass (the old stomach stapling) and still dumps off carbs....oatmeal or ride for breakfast will get her (and me) every time....so, for some, yes dumpling is forever.

Thanksgiving Woes
. It was just plain old regular pumpkin pie....typically if I just have a little of something (even sweet) I'm okay, apparently even a little pumpkin pie goes over my carb load. C'est la vie. Will settle for a bite or two next time!

For The 1St Time Since Surgery
Likely a mild case, yes. Mine starts with the racing/pounding heart and nausea, if it's a bad one i'll break out in a sweat and get weak and shaky too.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Hope you and yours are all enjoying a wonderful day full of food, family, and friendship. I'd like to thank you all for you friendship and support this last year. From the just about to have surgery high, to the post-op hormonal crazy low, to the endless thrills and stalls...it's been a heck of a year and y'all have helped pull (at times push) me through.

Confused
Checked that first to see if it had reverted back to band again but it had not, I'm still RNY and the web site links me to all RNY stuff..::it's just the app and just started yesterday.
-
Confused
At some point today the app decided to make me all lap-band, all the time, I'm seeing nothing but lap-band threads unless I specifically go to the RNY boards and search them individually (which isn't an easy feat). I went to the web site where I'm still listed as RNY and getting RNY posts except according to the web site there's no new content on the RNY boards so again I have to go in to each topic individually....so basically I'm staring at lap-band threads. So....how do I get the app (iPad/iPhone both) to make me an RNY again. Nothing against life with a lap band but I did my time there just not pertinent to me any more!

Why Did You Choose The Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass (Rny)
true....frighteningly true.

Why Did You Choose Rny And Not The Band?
Also keep in mind this is an RNY board...we're biased

Why Did You Choose Rny And Not The Band?
Okay, to elaborate...I had issues from early on with my band being somewhat spastic...if I was stressed out, my allergies were flared up, I had PMS, ETC, it would be so tight I could only sip liquids for days...I kept very little fluid in my band to try to counter act this...but I did lose weight! Eventually, I got sick, sick to the point I couldn't tolerate fluids and was dehydrated had to have several liters of IV fluids and everything removed from my band...after that the band and I never hot along well. If they tried to put anything in my band at all I would have episode where I couldn't eat. I worked closely with my doc...whenever could find a good spot for me. About 2.5 years in I developed severe reflux, to the point I was waking up at night refluxing out my nose. Let me tell ya, that is hell. Then I got to where I was having issues drinking again. My band had slipped, my stomach was prolapsed up, I had to have urgent surgery to remove it. I had decided to revise to RNY but had so much damage my doc was unable to do the revision and I was sent home to heal (I had a partial erosion as well). Six months later I had my RNY and physically it's been so much easier. I feel fabulous and I can eat anything (apples, celery, chicken!!! Yay!!!). For me, RNY is the right choice.

Why Did You Choose Rny And Not The Band?
I had the band, it sucked and tried to kill me, I kicked it out . I love my RNY even though I'm the unlucky minority that dumps all the damn time.
