what? Telling the morbidly obese person to trust her body and do what it tells her over the doc and nutritionist isn't sound advice??

Is It Possible To Get Approved Without A Supervised Weight Loss Program?
Nope, I just had to have proof of obesity for a certain number of years....(weigh ins at my docs office were my proof). I did not have to show any history of diet attempts, etc. I was very very lucky

My head looks enormous, so glad to see you say that . I guess it's really just that my ass is no longer enormous so I'm distracted by the biggest part now.

What's Your Favorite Store Now?
Belks and kohls....lots of warm fuzzy winter stuff in normal sizes and good sales. I went to Belks the weekend before last and tried on a zillion things not expecting 1/2 to fit....they all fit, a few were too big, had to do some soul searching to decide what I liked the most. It was overwhelming ;D

Reoccurring theme here, why is my surgery best? I'm not trying to start WWIII here but just curious, in a non-hostile, in your face, you suck and I'm right, you're wrong kinda way, why did YOU pick YOUR surgery? They've all got pros and cons, but what tipped the scales for you? I keep hearing 'I don't want a foreign body in me' 'I don't want 85% of my perfectly healthy stomach cut out' 'I don't want my guts rerouted or malabsorption' but what did it for you, what made you comfortable with your choice? Keep in mind I'm a failed band with revision to RNY so you're not trying to sell it to me. I'll start. I started with a band simply because it seemed like an easy and less drastic surgery. It seemed simple. (And really, surgery and recovery were). Had the band and I gotten along it woulda been awesome!!!! But, sadly, we didn't. I had so many complications and so much misery, when it prolapsed I got to choose sleeve or RNY (my doc won't revise a prolapsed band to another band, plus, in the end it had started to erode so repeat band was off the table). The determining factor for me between sleeve and RNY was simply reflux/GERD risk. I had horrible reflux with my band, even when it was empty. Like waking up at night with acid coming out my nose type reflux. It was miserable and the thought that the sleeve might possibly give me any reflux at all was enough to sway me. (And who knows, not everyone has GERD with the sleeve, I might have been fine, but the thought terrified me).

Confused on what surgery to have
My surgeon tells you the risks and benefits of all 3, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Then makes you decide. After you've given him your response, if you ask, he'll tell you what he thinks is the best option but he wants the decision and therefore ultimately the responsibility to be made by the patient. But ultimately it is a very personal decision. How much do you need to lose? What are your health problems? How old are you? What are YOU comfortable with long term? I am a band that revised to RNY. If I knew then what I know now I would have started with RNY, but that's me. You can have success with any of the 3 surgeries if you are committed to making the lifestyle changes required....you can also fail with all 3, in fact it's reasonably easy to do so. Keep doing your research, ask questions. Talk to people that have had all 3 surgeries, if you can, talk to people that have had problems with the surgeries so you can see the good as well as the bad. Good luck!!!

I don't have a husband to fight with (praise the baby Jesus) but my son (5 when I got banded) had a small cow when I did a major cooking overhaul...then the little twerp lost 5 pounds in like 3 weeks (he was losing weight faster than the banded patient was, go figure :/). Now he's used to it so all is well. I'd start with small changes and eventually get them closer to what they really should be eating. Nothing dramatic for fear of man whining. You can do enchiladas, just de-fat the recipe a bit. Good luck!!!!

My Dr. Says If I Gain 1 More Pound I Will Be Given An Extra Month Visit But....
I have to agree, cheating pre-op can lead to cheating post op which is bad and can have dire consequences. I only say this because I want the healthiest and safest outcome for you. Do what they tell you, don't lie, be very very careful.

Sleeping Comfortable After Surgery...
The thought I was weird because I laid on m tummy with my left side lifted up on a pillow to take off the weight. Slept like a baby . Plus, it's easier to get out of bed from that position Just slide to the edge and push yourself up.

Back To Work
I was in patient 3 1/2 days, they held me hostage an extra night because I wasn't 'passing gas' (now, post RNY, I pass gas CONSTANTLY...irony). I stand all day, I took off a week and a half then did 3 days 1/2 days, at 2weeks post op I was full time....and man was I washed out by the end of the day! I kept my heating pad at work and when I had a chance to sit down and do charts I'd have that puppy snuggled up to me....it was awesome. I had hot tea I sipped on all day cuz I was freezing I was ready to go back though, it kept me busy and moving. I had an amazingly easy recovery..
