  1. WOW, am I nuts? or what? Well, I like to eat nuts and they say you are what you eat, uh? :lol0: I just completed 8 months of preparing for the gastric bypass surgery - went thru all the hoops - was approved and waiting for a surgery date - I was not 100% sure that gastric bypass was the way for me to go - at first, I thought I wanted to go with the lap band but being a military wife and moving every 2-3 yrs. would've been difficult to continue changing doctors, etc. for the fill's and checkups - I believed the sleeve was the way to go but my insurance didn't pay for the sleeve :frown1: - I woke up one morning a little over a week ago and just knew that I knew that I knew  that the gastric bypass was not the way to go - so, I made the decision to prolong my weight loss surgery until my insurance would cover it :svengo:- I found out that 5 major medical ins. companies now cover the sleeve and just felt that my ins. would be covering it in the near future - so, until that occurs, I have decided to continue to act like I was still in the process of waiting for a surgery date and am putting myself on a high-protein meal replacement regiment of 2 meals a day with one small balanced meal of a lean protein, veggie, salad and will do my best to stay away from pasta and bread (my favorites, afterall, I am 3/4 Italian and my brain and body know it and makes me crave those high-carb meals ) Anyway, I joined this site for support and encouragement as I also walk the journey road of weight loss - thanks for your time in reading my introduction - have a great day and much luck to you on your own journey - I look forward to meeting many of you - have a great day!!!
  2. Hi - read one of your blogs - I'm a christian also and I love the scripture God gave you ;0)

  3. Hi Meriteri-tks for the encouragement-I am leary of going to a military base to have the surgery esp. the one that is close to us-I heard horror stories-1 military spouse my husband knows had her surgery done at that base & has had complications on and off for bout 2 yrs now & I heard bout some other similar stories-its my understanding that unless the surgeon has performed at least 100 sleeve surgeries than you shouldn't consider him-don't know how well I'll do w/trying to lose weight while I wait for the sleeve to be approved by tricare as I haven't been able to lose the weight b4-I've gained bout 75 lbs since I turned 42 & I'm turning 50 next mo-I need to lose bout 140lbs-but, Im positive I should not go thru with the bypass-so, I'll either have to wait for tricare to cover the sleeve or convince my hubby to self-pay for it - have a great day ;0)

  4. Hi-I hav140lbs to lose :crying: already approved to have gastric bypass but woke up 1 day ovr a wk ago & knew the bypass wasn't the way to go :svengo: Ive wanted to get the sleeve surgery for ovr 2 yrs but my ins. co. doesn't cover it yet  just found out that 5 major ins. co's cover the sleeve now so decided to wait for my ins. to cover it-I was diagnosed with typeII diabetes :scared0: bout 4 yrs ago & on insulin & have gained 50 lbs more since then, uuurrrrggghhhhhh  decided to add 2 to 3 high-protein replacement meals to my daily eating regiment & eating one sensible well-balanced meal daily in hopes of losing some weight on my own  I would've had to lose 14lbs anyway b4 they would've performed bypass on me-I need all the encouragement & support I can get-I look forward to losing weight with you & becoming healthier along with becoming diabete's free :biggrin2: Anyway, good luck to you, God Bless, and have a great day!!! :thumbup1:

Hi - I have a 140lbs to lose - I had already been approved to have the gastric bypass but woke up one morning over a week ago and knew that the bypass wasn't the way to go - I have wanted to get the sleeve surgery for over 2 yrs now but as of yet my ins. co. doesn't cover it - just found out that 5 major ins. co's cover the sleeve now so decided to wait as I believe the sleeve is the best weight loss surgery out there presently - I was diagnosed with typeII diabetes bout 4 yrs ago and have gained 50 lbs more since then, uuurrrrggggghhhhhhhh - anyway, I decided to add 2 to 3 high-protein replacement meals to my daily eating regiment and eating one sensible well-balanced meal daily in hopes of losing some weight on my own - I would've had to lose 14lbs anyway b4 they would have performed the bypass on me - I need all the encouragement and support I can get - I searched for a diabete's support group but haven't found one - maybe I'm not searching correctly? Anyway, good luck to you and have a great day!!! ;0)

  7. Hi Cajun, I came across ur profile & was immediately drawn to u-I was born & raised n New Iberia , La-I now live in Ca due to marry'g a military man, something I said I'd never do-I also said I'd never b/c very overweight-havn't been home n 2 yrs-I miss my hometown, family, friends so much-I was approved for gastric bypass & was waiting on a surgery date when I woke up 1 day a week ago & just knew that the bypass was not for me-my ins. as of yet doesn't cover the sleeve-I found out that 5 major ins. co's now cover it so Im going to wait for my ins. co. to cover it-n the meantime I decided to act like I was still waiting on surgery date & follow a high-protein replacement meal regiment-I still had to lose 14 lbs b/4 getting surgery so hopefully I'll b able to stick to this new way of eating-my surgeon gave me a goal weight loss of 140 lbs so I'm trying not to look at that whole amount & just give myself '20 lb' goal losses-I pray ur doing well-take care!

  8. Hello bayougirl-as soon as I saw your username I just knew you had to be from Louisiana-I am from south Louisiana also-born and raised there for 47 years-I'm on my 2nd marriage-married a man who's in the Coast Guard and now live in California-have been here for 1 yr & 7 months-I haven't had the lapband surgery yet-my 1st appt w/surgeon is Jan. 8th-it's a little nerveracking thinking about having this done so far away from family & friends & with my hubby out to sea 1-2 weeks of every mon.-my stepdaughter,15, lives with us which helps take some of the edge out of it-she'll be visiting her mother in LA the 2nd half of this coming summer but by then I will be about 5 months post op so I should be in pretty good shape by then-one of my main concern's is the possible slippage of the lap band-the other concern is being able to stick to a liq. diet b4 surgery-any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated-hope to hear from you-congrat's on your progress so far
