Band vs Sleeve
LOL that is so true!! We didn't gain the weight overnight, so why should we expect to lose it overnight? Slow and steady wins the race And I asked myself the same question, don't feel bad! I have a lot of my friends giving me grief because I choose the band over bypass. I like to think of it as long term help. The bypass is a one time fix. And its funny the friends who are giving me grief had the bypass and 2 have gained their weight back! Where with the band, its slow and steady weight loss. When you hit a plateau you can go in to your Dr and get a fill, you are not just stuck with ''here's what you got'' Anyways that's JMO and that's why I chose the Band.

June 6th is just 5 days away!
And I am nervous!! My doctor didnt tell me to do any liquid diets but I have cut down on meals. I drink 2 liquid shakes (Breakfast and dinner) and have a small lunch of light things. Yogurt, cottage cheese, small salad.. etc. the last 3 days I will go straight liquid. I got all my Vitamins, Protein powders, cleaned my room, cleaned the house, etc.. now its just count down ... I am nervous I am scared to death. I am excited and I am thrilled... I still cannot get my mind wrapped around the idea of 2 to 3 tablespoons filling me up but I will cross that bridge when it gets there. Ugh any last minute suggestions??

Juicing
I am going to talk to my Dr. about juicing as a supplement, like you said for breakfast or maybe even a lunch along with my Protein. I am looking at the Omega Vert 350 HD for my juicer.. currently I have a black n decker model that is a high speed juicer, the Vert is a slow masticating juicer. So less veggies you have to use for the same amount of juice.

So frustrating!
I had to do a 6 month supervised diet with my dietician and Dr for my ins to approve it. Now I'm getting my surgery date tomorrow Start now, the little things help. Small bites, chewing you bites at least 30 times before swallowing, making a meal last at least 30 min, not drinking 30min before or after a meal. These little things will make the transition easier. GOOD LUCK!

Well I did the Edg, yes the scope that goes down the throat. Everything looked good and so the surgery is a go. The only thing they found was a very small heital hernia. So I call the Dr tomorrow so we can set up the surgery date

It's finally here!
I have been approved by my insurance! I did my 6 month pre-surgery waiting time. I journaled, I did my visit to the Dr. every month, I followed the Dr's approved diet and gained and lost the same 3 pounds from month to month. So, after all that I turned in all my paperwork and I HAVE BEEN APPROVED!! I have to do one more test - an edg this coming up Wednesday and then the day after that we schedule a surgery date I'm nervous, I'm excited, I'm scared all at once. I have my blender ready, I am going to take my ''before'' picture tomorrow, and I need to get some Protein Powder and the essentials for the after surgery. Any suggestions for things I need?

1st month of 6 month supervised diet
I am in my 4th month of my 6 month diet. I have had 0 luck. I have lost and gained the SAME 4 POUNDS over and over its so frustrating I have given up sweets, I have begun to drink even more water, (I don't drink sodas, so I gave up fruit juices and tea) I have increased my veggie intake and also my protein and STILL no luck. I am at my whits end. I even bought a treadmill for my house and I use it twice a week for 45 minutes each time (No, I'm not speed walking, but doing the slower longer pace) My killer vice is we eat out A LOT. So I have been trying to at least cook more, so I have more control of what goes in the foods.. but again.. SAME 4 POUNDS.. Sorry I am just so disappointed. Have you started eating smaller bites and going without water/liquid 30 minutes before and after a meal? I'm having trouble with that one but the time is getting better... I'm up to 10 minutes now where before I had to have something while I was eating. Good Luck!!

Biotin for hair
Not everyone loses their hair. Some people's hair thin, some doesnt. Bioten is awesome, I took that with a gelatin pill and I can say that it did make my hair thicker. I have not had the surgery yet and yes the idea of losing my hair FREAKS ME OUT!! But I can always buy extensions or wigs right?

November 1, 2012 Being Thankful
I am going to write down every day one thing that I am very thankful for. So here goes. I am thankful for both my girls. I consider them both my greatest achievement in life. They are the two best things I have ever done. They are the reason I am wanting to lose weight, so they will be proud of me. So that I can do more things with them and enjoy it instead of being tired and just wanting to sit.

What To Do Instead Of Overeating When You?Re Tired And You Want A Treat
Sometimes just getting out of the house and going somewhere helps me. I usually go to a clothing store, you dont want to eat when you are looking at clothing!

Im Geting Scared
SOCKS SOCKS SOCKS!! it never fails, when I go into the hospital for whatever my feet are freezing! If you are sharing a room bring your headphones and a iPod or whatever you have music on. When I had my hysterectomy and came out of surgery all I wanted to do was sleep. It was a day surgery and I ended up staying till almost 10 that night. bring a pillow and a small blanket for the car ride home also. I wish I would have remembered to do that, but I forgot. This time I am making a list of things to take! Good luck!!

6 Month Wait Time...6 Month Weight Time
I went to see my WL Dr. on the 16th of this month. My insurance will pay for it since I have a 45 bmi. I'm not sure the reasoning of why I have to wait 6 months, I was just told this is what my insurance requires. I have to see a nutrionalist or my regular dr. (I chose to see my regular dr since the nutritionalist is not on my ins and is out of pocket) My Dr. put me on a strange diet, I dont quite understand it.. I know its probably simple but the wording of it keeps throwing me. Exchanges..??? It's a diabetic diet too, I am not diabetic at all... but I am digressing. She wants me to lose 5 lbs by my next visit - which is doable. But to be honest I have not even started it. I wake up and I'm ready to go! But somewhere between the shower and my first meal (I get up late, so my Breakfast is around noon) I am starving for a hamburger. How do you make yourself do that first kick? Is there an easy mind trick I can do? (I know if it was easy everyone would have no problem) I am on myfitnesspal and I have it set to the 1500 calories she wants me to take in a day, but I take in probably twice that in a day normally, its kinda hard to cut it completely down in one day like shes expecting me to. I figured she would make me do a diary of what I normally eat in a day, and then on my next visit help me begin to cut out or ''exchange'' certain things for better options. I know I am going to be stoned for this - so let the stoning begin. Yes I want to lose weight, Yes I want to be healthier. But that first push seems to be the hardest. I have even cleaned out my cabinets and fridge and restocked it with only healthy options, but I dont cook at home a lot, we eat out A LOT. Ugh any suggestions? And how much weight do you have to lose in that 6 month period? And why? Is it possible to lose to much and not qualify for the surgery any longer? I have all these questions and no answers and I am just feeling low and miserable and like I am already a failure because I cant even do the most simplest thing like START the diet.

Food.vs.exercise
I am in the same boat you are JSahi. I have to diet 6 months before surgery also.

Being Secretive
I understand what you are going through, other than my husband and my two daughters only one friend knows that I am on track for the lb. I feel the same way you do, what if I fail?

Lapband Or Plication?
It almost sounds like what they were doing in the early 90's... but they called it stapling. I'm sure its not but it sounds similar. I dont blame you though, I like the lb much better than doing any ''permanent'' thing to my stomach. Makes me too nervous. Thank you for the answer

Been Here A While But New Again
Hi! My name is Felecia and I have been a member for 3 years. I have not had the lap band, the insurances I have had over the past 3 years would not cover it. Fast forward to now, my insurance will now cover it!! Yeah, now that I have a BMI of 45!! I am starting the process that my insurance and my Dr. want me to follow. I have to see a nutritionalist for 6 months and discuss and follow a 1500 calorie diet and exercise program. I also have to see my Dr. (who is also my nutritionalist) to discuss any health problems I might be having. I have to see a psychologist to discuss the pros and cons...and I have to see my lap band Dr to make sure I am following along with the program, AND I have to talk to my insurance concierge once a month also...lol So with all that I am just now starting my process towards the lap band. I am nervous and excited all at the same time. I hope to make new friends and learn more about everyone's journey. Feel free to add me as a friend or however its done on here Thanks!
