  1. Maybe it's me but I find this pre-op just a little overwhelming and more involved then I thought. Keeping track of protein shakes - how many how often, grams of protein in everything plus adding the protein powder grams, then in my case bloodsugars 2-3 times a day and trying not to screw that up. My doc gave me sample menus for stage 3 and 4 . Why cant someone make a preop sample menu, I guess cause everyoones is so different. Feel like I need to keep a running journal of my day.
  2. Flavor isnt so much my issue but finding one that dosn't make me feel like a hot air balloon ready for take off..
  3. I was told by the nutritionist "if you always do what you have always done, you will get what you always got" a quote I believe she stole from weight watchers. A cookie or 2 on occassion is just fine .. half the package will once again get you in trouble. If you choose to not "work the band" like any weight loss program it simply wont work. It wasn't the occassional cookie that got you here.
  4. I prefer to not think I cheated on pre-op .. however It was a planned 10 day diet and I am shortening it by 2 days . It's labor day weekend and we had previous plans before I found out about pre-op. But once I start Mon. it will be to the letter... I used it for 2 weeks already to get to where I needed to be to get the thumbs up for surgery as it is so am not gonna risk it.
  5. Preop just started today.. breakfast was a 8 0z 50% less sugar OJ with a vanilla no sugar added carnation & ice.. delicious little creamcicle however I had more gas then a NASCAR pit crew today. Was it the OJ? The Carnation? A combo of the 2? No way thats an option for 9 more days..
  6. Was wondering if anyone had one? My doctors website gives a great sample for phase 2 and 3 but frankly the pre-op has me pretty confused.. I do so much better with structure .. At 7am eat this, at 11am eat this and thiis ... I dont like decisions
  7. I'm doing the no suger added carnation instant breakfast with a scoop of the unflavored whey powder I bought at GNC
  8. 39, yr old single female from MA .. definately interested in something long term.. being banded late Sept. 2010
  9. I saw the surgeon today .. I knew it wasn't gonna be good and it wasn't. He felt it should be posponed 2 months as I was up 9 pounds as expected. He says If I can get the 9 pounds off prior to the pre op diet the preop will do the rest. Pre op starts sept. 4th .. have an appt. w/ him on sept 1 to see if we should go thru this or not. 15 days to get 9 pounds off? He said he would pray for me .. I told him I needed 1 a day not just 1 ... I asked him about starting the preop a week early .. he said that wouldnt be wise as thats 2 weeks of improper nutrition going into surgery then a week post .. even worse he said 2 weeks of a liquid diet and still not make the surgery goals may make you find the nearest bridge ..lol. Will try just no carb, lots of protein and half servings, a little wakling each night despite the stress fracture in my foot. I cant get too carried away or it will send my diabetes into a tailspin and that wont help matters. Cross your fingers
  10. I have told some .. folks, sister, a few select co-workers and I have not told some .. my brother and most coworkers. I realize the day will come when it will be asked, someone will slip and maybe just obvious and I certainly won't lie about it. I specifically didn't tell my brother as he has been very judgemental about my weight in the past and don't need another "just eat less and exersize" lecture. If that was gonna be the solution for me don't you think it would have happened by now? I'm 39 and been fat since I was 15. Another part of not telling everyone is frankly when you have been on 100 diets and the 1st 25 have failed.. you sorta expect the next 75 to fail too .. why tell people. So just incase this dosn't work I wouldnt want people to know I went to this extreme and was still a failure
  11. I had no program fee, a office co-pay of $20 each time I saw the nutritionist which is 4 times now, & surgeon tomorow is 2nd and last until surgery.. $150 procesing fee for the paperwork for the psych the actual psych eval was covered by ins.
  12. I have a very best friend who I used to speak to daily & see 3-4 times a week . Back in Feb. I let her know my mom & I were attending a informational seminar, was free and asked if she was interested in joining us. She needs this as much as I do if not more. Think we have spoken 3 times since and obviously the subject has never come up. Not even sure she knows I stuck with it and have a date yet..
  13. I knew way back in March at my 1st surgical appt. I needed to be down about 15 pounds to qualify for surgery .. they won't operate over a BMI of 50 and I was 54....now I have a follow up with the surgeon tomorow and if anything I have gained that 15 I was supposed to loose. Why the heck did I do that? Not like I didn't know this was coming up. My surgery is 29 days away.. dont see how I can possibley be down enough to go thru with this on time. Will wait and see what tomorow brings but I'm not expecting good news.. :cursing:
  14. I hear many people mention their doctor has said and in some cases made them sign a document making it clear that if once they get in there and your liver is too fatty you could potentially wake up without a band. I wonder if this has actually happened ??
  15. Oh boy .. I planned on 2 weeks off post op, no one mentioned I would need the week preop as well... ugh
  16. For now I am just trying to decide on a protein powder. Luckily I have 3 weeks before I need it so am just looking for your :smile2: or your  on the differnt options. There seems to be so many to choose from. I assumed I would go with the CIB since it would be easist to find however finding the assorted is not easy, seems to be primarily chocolate which will give me migraines. I have heard the unjury is ok from some, others not so much. Again at walgreens, walmart etc.. the big jugs seems to be primarily chocolate, and although a pound of protein powder seems like a lot I'm sure I will go thru it in no time. I went to GNC but with only a few minutes to spare and was overwhelmed..so figured I will go back when I have more time. The taste of like splenda, aspertame etc isn't horrible for me but the taste of vitamins is. Lastly texture is my enemy.. I like smooth, no chunks..
  17. Best to check your surgeon as each seems to have different instructions. My post op is different then yours so better check.
  18. So my plan is to use the CIB no sugar added for most of my protein drinks however would like to know where people are getting the unflavored protein powder. I wouldn't mind getting some of that for like soup, tea, SH hot chocolate etc.. and according to my surgeon there is no such thing as too much protein for the 1st few weeks.. he said an extra 1/2 scoop of protein may hold you longer when your hungry rather then going looking for more. I have looked in Wamart, CVS, Walgreens etc but it all seems to be flavored. Just wonder if anyone found it in a store or just online.
  19. No one required me to do a 6 month diet or anything and I guess had I been told or informed I should maybe I would have.. but I wasn't given any restrictions other then all the pre-op stuff which I have already completed.
  20. Lillyegg - I'm right behind you.. I am booked for Sept. 14th. Actually just spoke to my Tufts "I Can Change" health coach last night. I am qualified as of Aug 12th so she will be calling me for our final check in the night before so she can get all paperwork done and off to Tufts the next day. She has no doubt Tufts will approve as she made sure I followed all their guidelines for the program & I booked w/ the sugeons office 2 months ago telling them I needed 6 weeks notice to get the time off work, (maybe a fib and I just needed a date to focus on) blood work next weekend and my last preop/anestesia appt. is mid Aug. almost a month before surgery which surprised me ..
  21. I started with a seminar in Dec. 2009. Techinically I havn't been approved yet but am eligible to submit for approval mid Aug when I finish my 6 months of I Can Change thru Tufts. I have spoken to the CM and the I Can Change Program girl and no one sees an issue. They said approval is less then 2 weeks from submission so the Doc went ahead & booked the date last month since I have to give work approx. a months notice
  22. Might be worth trying the No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast... my surgery isn't for another 6 weeks but have sampled a few types now to see which I was gonna tolerate.. for me its not so much taste but texture .. I cant stand gritty
  23. So I have just finished everything needed for pre-op and I am just having this crazy revelation .. So you hear over and over the band is just a tool, it will cut your appetite and make you feel less hungry and stay full longer. Great ! However.. I know many oveweight people including myself who didn't get obese because they are constantly hurgry. The bottom line .. fat people arn't fat because they are hungry. 9 times out of 10 they have a million other reasons to eat but hunger isn't up there on the list. So I guess I am worried how is that band gonna stop me besides make me sick.. and maybe thats the idea?
  24. Ugh .. When I had my 1st surgical consult in Feb. I just made the BMI cut off and it was felt witht he pre-op diet loss I would be fine. Well since then I think I have gained about 10-12 pounds. You would think knowing the consequences I would get it right off but it's just not happening. I almost feel like I am self sabotaging this whole thing. I still have 2 months until band time so it can be done.. just wonder how strict that cut off is.
