I went alone and everything worked out perfectly. I've had numerous GYN surgeries and know that I perfer rest and relaxation by myself after my surgeries. Also Dr. Rumbaut's staff really reassured me that everything was taking care of and it really was! I met another woman who had surgery the same day who was also alone and we checked on each other. It's been almost two years and we still communicate - she is my banded sister. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!!!

What made me wonder was you mentioned having pain in the lower part of your stomach that spread into your back. That's the same type of pain I felt before I had mine out. I never threw up with my attacks but man did I want to and I could only eat very bland things without feeling sick to my stomach. Just watch what you eat over the next few days. I hope you make it thru this and get to your doctor soon. Maybe ask them to check your liver enzymes - if they're elevated it could be your gall bladder and not your band. Just a thought.

I waited until just recently to tell the people I work with. I just got tired of keeping it a secret and wanted to share my wonderful experience! Everybody was very supportive and glad I shared.

I had my surgery done by Dr. Rumbaut on August 8, 2006. He is simply wonderful. I heard so many wonderful things about him prior to my surgery and he lived up to all of it. I've been getting my fills done in NYC and the woman who does them can't speak any higher of him. When she looked at my floro she told me my band was placed perfectly - really comforting to hear!! I'm down 50 pounds now and thrilled with my whole experience. Dr. Rumbaut may be a thousand or two more compared to some other surgeons in Mexico but IMO he's worth it.

If you pay for the surgery this year you deduct it this year. It doesn't matter how you finance it.

I'm not familiar with Dr. Stevens but I sure am familiar with Lafayette! I miss it tremendously!!

When I went in for my first fill at 6 weeks and the nurse stuck the needle in a ton of yellowish fluid gushed out. She said it was no problem and I just kept it clean and it's been fine.

Scrambled eggs cause problems for some? Wow - since being banded I can't get enough of them. I hated eggs but now I crave them. Odd. But I do chew the heck out of them and either have them with catsup or tomato Soup.

As ddiedre mentioned it may be your gall bladder. I was banded August 8th and had to have my gall bladder out October 9th. You may want to go see your PCP and have your liver enzymes checked. Trust me you don't want to wait until you have a full blown attack. That is the worst pain imaginable - I'd rather go thru childbirth again!!!

Just to give you another option - look into Dr. Rumbaut as well. His website is http://www.gastricband.com/. I had a wonderful experience will him and I haven't heard anything negative about him. He even has a lap-band!! Good luck on your decision.

I just had my gall bladder out and I am horribly bruised but in my case it's due to the shots they gave me to prevent blood clots. Hope you heal quickly!

Silly me but I thought doctors took an oath to help people....I didn't know it had a clause regarding Mexico.

For anybody that wants a good lie - Endometriosis. It's a female condition that I have and over the years have had 6 laps for. Same type of surgery as the lap-band just different procedure. Do a google search and a little reading and you could easily get away with it.

Michelle, I'm going thru the same thing. I was SO worried my band slipped and was a little relieved it was my gallbladder. I met with a surgeon today and I'm scheduled for Monday, October 9th - 2 months since being banded.

Malice, how long ago did you have your band? I had mine in August and I'm meeting with a surgeon tomorrow to talk about getting my GB out too.

I'm meeting with a surgeon tomorrow to have mine out. It sounds to me like you have reflux. My gallbladder episodes last for hours and nothing, standing included, makes it feel better.

About 3 weeks ago I had what I thought was either something stuck or just a plain upset belly due to some fresh onions I ate. It was bad but it passed within an hour. Well Saturday night it happened again. Around 11 pm I woke with the worst pain imaginable. Now I've had 7 laps (due to endrometriosis), a C-section and cut two more times like a C-section. I honestly would rather be cut hip-to-hip again than experience that pain again from Saturday night. It lasted for hours and would not ease up. I ended up having to go to the ER (which I'm not looking forward to that bill since I don't have insurance but that's another issue). I thought it had something to do with the band and it turns out it was a gall bladder attack. But they did a CAT scan and it didn't show any signs of stones or inflammation. The only indication was my pain and some of my liver enzymes are elevated. They did an ultrasound pre-op and my gall bladder was fine. I've never had any problems with it and now they're recommending surgery to remove it. I've read in various places that WLS patients can end up having gall bladder problems after the surgery. Why is that? Does anybody know? Any recommendations to help elevate the possiblity of another flare up? I start work in a week and will have health insurance immediately. I will get this taken care of but I want a week without that pain! HELP!

Well I just met with my doc and I meet with the surgeon on Tuesday to discuss taking out my gallbladder. I can't believe this is happening! (((cries)))

Thank you for all of your replies! I took a chance last night and ate 1/2 cup of LF cottage cheese and BAM another attack. I just met with my doctor and I'm meeting with a surgeon on Tuesday. Until then I'm on liquids.... I can honestly say I never saw this coming. I didn't have any problems with my GB before banding.

Has anybody had an problems with their gall bladder since surgery that didn't have problems with it prior to the surgery? Please see my post in Lap-Band Complications titled the worst pain I've EVER experienced. Thanks!

I felt that way too for about a week. I'm down 25 lbs since pre-op but then all of a sudden it stopped and my hunger increased. I actually woke up starving (with stomach pain) at about 6:30 am one morning and had to eat something. I talked to my doctor about it and she said that's common and that it was good that I didn't cancel my fill. I got 1.2cc in my 5cc band and I'm a little scared of going to normal food. I haven't PB'd or slimed or anything yet. I've had a normal experience since being banded on 8/8 and I'm nervous about getting stuck. I don't plan on sticking to soft foods because my reasoning for getting the band was to eat normally (modified for healthier choices) but in smaller portions. I just can't help but feel nervous.

I just had my first fill in NYC on Monday. He placed my port close to where the US doctors do. It's about 2 inches above my belly button and 1 inch to the left of it. It's way above my natural waist which I am thankful for. I'm not sure this is his norm because I have endrometrosis and have had numerous laps to correct it and will need more in the future. He may have put it up further out of the way of my lower abdomen. You'll get to sit down with him for a nice chat the day before the surgery so make a list of questions you have.
