Mental Health And Weight
Hello Lapband talk members! This is for my dissertation: Participants Needed for Dissertation Research Study Melissa Huelsman, a doctoral student at the University of Nevada, Reno needs participants for a research study to help her to develop a new model and scale to help overweight and obese individuals that seek mental health counseling. If you are 18 years or older, have a BMI of 25 or higher and speak English, you are eligible to participate in this study in which you will be asked to take an online survey. It will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete all of the survey items. If you have questions about this study, please contact Melissa Huelsman at (775) 682-5518. If you would like all details on the study and/or would like to participate please click on the link below: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/pfidmvalid

100lbs down in 5 months!
I am so excited to report that since my surgery on Oct. 29, 2009, I have lost 102 lbs! I have 77 lbs to go to reach my goal of 170lbs, but it feels so much more within reach to have to lose 77 lbs than to have to lose 180 lbs. So far, my keys to success have been eating healthy foods for the purpose of fueling my body and exercising in enjoyable ways like Zumba. Our brains like to be on autopilot and stick to habits. I have become an interruption to my brain's habits and I am developing new, healthy ones. I feel wonderful and I am looking forward to posting again when I hit my goal. Good Luck to all other bandsters and stay strong and in control!!!

Weight Watchers and the band
It's shocking that people who are involved in the same struggle are hateful to each other! I found an old magazine with all of the success stories of people who lost 100lbs or more. I was surprised to look at it after being banded and see that the first sentence was "These people did it without surgery." Why is ok to be unsupportive to overweight individuals and then call them lazy for trying to become healthy in a way that works for them like WLS? Wow.

5 Days Post-Op!
I also just had my surgery 10/29 and I have had the horrible gas pains and hiccups. It's funny because I also want to set a 30lb goal by the new year! I think that you can try your best at achieving the 30 lb loss in a healthy way, but I have already prepared myself to look at how wonderful I am going to feel in December even if it isn't an exact 30 lb lost! Your body is going to lose weight at the pace it needs to, especially if you follow the post op diet and exercise guidelines. You'll do great if you stick to them come this Decemeber! I wish you the best of luck!

Surgery this Thursday
Thank you K-Joy and Erin Marie for your support before surgery! It was nice to know that there are other people "out there" who are supportive and know what I am going through!

Surgery this Thursday
Thanks Andrew for your concern! The surgeon said that the surgery went perfectly. I had a hiatal hernia that I had NO idea about!!! The port incision doesn't bother me...it is all of the gas that came from the air they pumped into me. It has been a killer. If that gas would go away, I would feel human again! I also realized that the doctor gave me pain medications for a reason. I tried to not take them yesterday and by the end of the day, I was in bad shape...once I took them, I felt great. I think I'm too fiesty and want to be 100% right now...but I realize it will take time. Congratulations on your success!

Surgery this Thursday
I have surgery this Thursday and I am excited and scared all wrapped up in one! I hope that because of my age and lack of major health concerns everything will go well. I am not very impressed with the support groups that I have been to because they mix the banded patients with the bypass patients. It should be great to get support here!

Got my date! Woohoo!
Congratulations! I have surgery this Thursday 10/29. The time will fly and before you know it, surgery will day will come. Take care!

List of October Bansters
I got my surgery date of October 29th! Halloween is my favorite time of year so I find it suiting. I have lost 15lbs on a pre-op diet and I still have 12 days on a liquid diet. I wish everyone the best of luck and I hope to figure out how to navigate this website to get and give support!
