Chicken and beef have been fine. Pork is my enemy! Tried it twice- it was so tender-the second time I got to experience the golfball & "sliming". I had read lots about it- couldnt relate- hope to never again!!!!! That was painful and horrible!

September Bandsters
I unfortunately have now experienced the big three- golfball, sliming and PB. The golfball from eating too fast about every 4 days- eeks im gonna learn!! Sliming only ONCE- that was enough!! It was from a TENDER pork chop that a well chewed piece got stuck. WOW pain!! And 10 minutes of sliming!!! PB- ONCE- tonight- from eating too fast. The golfball hurt then PB relieved it. Not nearly as gross as I had feared. I am really wondering IF I should get the fill tomorrow- I havent learned to S l o w d o w n!!! A fill will make it worse!! As a human- man on man am I hard headed!! I feel like a bandster toddler learning how, when, and why to eat!!!

What size band do you have and what amount of fill do you have?

Im 193.6 so no loss keep me at 194! Im so thrilled to maintain without a fill yet!!

very confused about band and fill-10cm band holds only 4 ccs?
The Inamed comes in 3 sizes. Mine is the smallest 9.75 cm, then two others one of which is 10cm. This only speaks to the diameter of the band, not the volume for restriction. The 10cm is the size not the volume it holds. Hope that helps.

Lapband or Bypass?
We have one of each in our house. My DH has the RNY bypass. He was 411 and is now 6yrs out and 270. He was an open procedure who got home and broke the suture line and everything fell out and had to be put back in. He has had NO COMPLICATIONS SINCE!! He says daily he would do it all over again even with the inital bumpy road. He admits he would NOT be a good bandster!! He drinks diet coke, eats candy and truly needs the malabsorptive component of the bypass. AND YES IT IS REVERSIBLE!! Not a simple take it out, but if some drastic event occurred necessitating reversal they could reverse it. For him bypass was the best choice. I did not get a choice since I barely made the band criteria. I do worry about the complications (erosion and slippage) of the band and if I have any of them I will have my band converted to some other WLS to keep the weight off that I loose. Im too new into this to sing the glories of the band, so far so good!! I feel like this will be the right choice for me. Each of us has to make our own decision- you know you best. The surgeons are biased because they see more failures than we do. They want you to be successful and to them that is to take the margin of error (human overeating) out of the equasion and do the bypass. Good Luck in whatever you decide!! Feel free to PM me and I can get you in touch with DH and you can discuss his choice with him.

How long should it take to eat a meal
Im glad to see the 20-30 minute as the majority. Ive read it, read it again, and read it again and my brain has not registered the S L O W down idea. Im prefill so I get the pain but no pb. Im trying everthing putting my fork down, talking. ITS HARD and I guess it takes awhile to learn!! It only takes once to remind me for a day or two. Any suggestions are welcomed. And my friend who doesnt know about my band says the band and any surgery are the easy way!! MY AS&!!!

September Bandsters
Ok so Im pre fill. Ive been on solids for 1-2 weeks. Soft foods are no problem. I almost hate to eat real food- especially if others are around!! I am still having trouble off and on SLOWING down with eating. If I missed a meal I tend to do worse. If I rush, or dont chew well enough I get this painful mid sternum just above xyphoid. It does pass, and yes Ive cheated and drank to relieve the pain. Anyone else with this and am I correct that chewing and slowing down is causing this?? I FEAR if I dont slow down , chew chew chew this is the precursor to PBing.

Holiday Craze (committed to healty eating)
No Starbucks will be easy for me since I dont drink coffee. The candy is where I need to work harder!! Our office is covered in candy and cookies!! I just need to refocus - convince myself it is only for the kids. I go have my semi annual labs today- that will make me refocus.

Working stiffs, how long...

How much does it cost to have the band removed?
Corinne- Garland mom had hers removed and she was cash pay. I think I remember reading that her insurance covered removal! Good Luck and Im sorry you are having problems.

Another one bites the dust... I'm eroded
THATS what my surgeon told me prior to surgery.

Another one bites the dust... I'm eroded
Bettina YES IT CAN!! Vomitting can make it slip. ALL bands have that piece sutured around the band and you can still slip. It has decreased the incidence but it is still possible. And the actual procedure is not done all the way around because that is known to increase erosion!! Pam Good luck to you!! I would think that the band is no longer a good option- I would consider another WLS if you feel it is warranted. PM geezer sue.

For Slow Losers - Excellent Info
You have to be REALLY careful- The functional medicine doctor in our area told my mother after their heart scan show she had some blockage, that he could unclog it with IV Vitamins, and solns!??? She went thru THOUSANDS of dollars and days of IV soln/vitamins or whatever the mixture was. She finally believed me AFTER her heart attack - that was NOT possible!! IF it was there would be no reason for angioplasty. They also did a mercury detox. Her opinion of them has changed emensely!! Dont mean to be the party pooper....... BE CAREFUL!!!! BE SENSEABLE about the care you let them offer!! PS... my mon is still fat too. she gained on the diet specifically for her although she was not allowed to eat a ton of stuff!! GOOD LUCK!! I hope they can help !!

Surgeon Salesmen?
The negatives come from everywhere. IF YOU know in your heart this is the choice that is best for you then DO IT. I had a 65ish year old neighbor who is like an uncle, I trusted and told him. His reply was you dont have to go to that extreme to be pretty. :phanvan It not about being pretty, I already have that. Its about health!! I know its best for me; so I dont disclose the information to anyone now!! People dont understand being fat or the consequences of it.

how long for liquids and why?
The explanation I got was for healing and to allow the band to settle. Once you start solids it is human nature to test the limits and IF you push it before you have had time to heal the complication rate goes up alot! NO vomiting- so stick to the liquid so your new tummy doesnt have to work until the band is scarred into place. Liquids run thru and do not require work . That was the explanantion I received from the surgeon!! Good Luck to you.
