Menstruation After Surgery
I spoke with my surgeon and my PCP, they both told me that the LONG heavy period is an effect of the blood thinners they give us during and after surgery. Also the untimeliness of it arriving is from a combo of anesthesia and trauma. Mine lasted 12 days. It was heavy and I thought my insides were falling out. Being told you can't have advil was a deal breaker for me after a certain point. I went and saw my surgeon and he told me I COULD take IBprofen but in I would have to take it in liquid form or in very coated an make sure I drink a lot with the pill form so it would not stay in stoma where it can cause issues. He said taking IBprofen is ok for once in a while like for cramps. I also found that taking Evening Primrose Oil helped regulate my hormones after the surgery. Especially since I had gone off Birth Control 3 months prior so this was my 1st REAL period in a LONG time.

BIG dilemma - HELP!!
I think I got lucky with my work/friends. I told my Boss I would be out for 1 week for surgery. He never asked about what for. He had surgery last year, so he is sensitive to the matter. My surgery date was 1/5/10 and coincidentally I got engaged on 12/24/09, so everyone is assuming I am on a wedding diet. lol. its actually kept people asking me. Wow how much have you lost this week? Nothing is more motivating then a white dress. HA HA.

Regret Telling Friends ...
WOW her kids are on a gluten free, lacto-free, vegetarian diet? Wow, I would consider that child neglect in some form. Malnution is so easy with adults... Kids I am sure can be stunted in their development with such a diet. Maybe your friend needs an damn intervention! You sound sane to me =).

BIG dilemma - HELP!!
In the US you dont have to disclose what surgury you are going in for. It is actually illegal to ask you. If you want to tell them something youc an tell them you have hernia surgery. Most of us had a hernia repair during WLS so it wouldnt really be a lie. Also if they are requiring a DR note you can ask your discharge nurse for a filled out form stating how long hospital stay and how long the doc wants you resting at home. You tell them it is for work and they will make it vague, since of doc patient confidentiality. GOOD LUCK!

pains after surgery
Hey I have the same thing and went to my DR. He said its NORMAL. You were burned... well cauterized. The bands path is up thru belly button area and then it gets dragged thru ur left side to reach your tummy. I am all healed on the outside... on the inside i am TENDER on my left side. My doc told me to buy an abdominal binder to wear when active, like going to work, walking ect. it works. AAlso taking a little liquid Children's Motrin to help with swelling/pain. He said I will basically hurt there for up to 2 months.

2 Weeks Post-Op - Can I Excercise Yet?
My doc said it is the left side where the surgeon draggs the port upwards from the belly button to the stomach. They have to cut, cauterize, move muscles, ect so there is a longer period of healing. Adding more protien helps heal faster. I also went to the drugstore and got a abdominal binder and OMG it helps so much. I find when i walk around I engage my abs and suck my gut in. Its habit from trying to look skinnier I guess. I am having to FORCE myself to relax my gut when i walk to make the pain go away. I was told to where my binder until my fill to aid in the tissue repair on my left side. I was allowed to take liquid chidrens motrin 2x a day for a week when on my period and the pain was gone. Now I stopped the motrin and pain is BACK. Grrrr.

2 Weeks Post-Op - Can I Excercise Yet?
If you have to ask that question it means you have not had your 1st post op appt yet. You need doc clearence to be ok for exercise. I am 3 weeks post op. Had my appt a week ago. I am healing nicely and fast. My doc put me on 4 week post op foods, but said he doesnt want me excersing until after my 1st fill since i am still healing. I tried a little wii fit and have been regretting it for over a week now. I have a sharp pain in my lower left ab now, where I have NO incisions. My doc said it is the path the port took and it takes the longest to heal. =( I would just walk. I live in NYC and I feel you pain about the NE cold.
