    fills in ca.?

i would like to have surgery in mx. with dr. rumbaut. do you know who will do fills in ca. for mx. bandsters? much thanks, lexi
  2. hi, i am trying to gather as much info as i can before i get rebanded...:help: i posted yesterday that i lost my band the first of aug. due to a slip.. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22919 i have read that some people who have a lot of weight around their middle, as i do, have more success and are not as tight overall with a VG band. my bmi currently is about 34. i only lost about 25/30 pounds in 9 months with a tight band. most of the time i only had .5 cc's in a 4 cc band( 10.75). most of my weight is in my middle and i think i have insulin resisitence as i have such a hard time with carbs( over 25 carbs and i just seem to retain them in the form of weight). also with my 8 pregnancies and i do have 8 children, i was gestational diabetic. my ob/gyn doctors at the time, and i had several as we were transferred a lot with oil companies, said that this is a possible precursor to diabetes later in life and i am 58. my blood tests do not show diabetes, but it did always show up on the 5 hour glucose tolerance tests. before i get too far out there...bottom line, or question, do you think that a larger band is better for a larger tummy that perhaps has a more of a fat pad:confused: on a "lay" level, it makes sense to me... i appreciate any input... lexi:)

    band removed

hi everyone, i had my band removed this month due to a slip. i did not have the option of going on liquids/mushies and giving my band a rest. this was my surgeon's first slip. he said it was best to remove it. i did see my upper pouch on fluro, before he took it out. it was swollen and i could see the slip. my history is: i was banded last fall , with a 10.75(4cc) band. i recieved a 1 cc fill at 4 weeks, even though i was not on solids yet. my surgeon fills at 4 weeks, 1cc and then .5 cc's and then .25 and .25. i was tight right away. in jan. i went in for a complete unfill. he said to wait 2 weeks and come back for a fill. i waited for 5 weeks and then went back. i asked for a .25 fill as i was afraid of anything more. he gave me a .5 cc. i wish i had been more insistent. i was always tight, in that i really could not eat veggies, poultry, fish, beef and fruit. i could eat moist canned chicken, with lots of fat free sour cream or fat free mayo. i kept thinking that as soon as i lose a little of my fat pad, it will losen. i did lose some weight, but not much and it never losened. i was stuck often and vomited and pbed just too much, i thought. finally in the last two months i lost more weight by working out hard everyday and drinking lots of protein shakes, (no way to live, long term). then one night i had a little brocoli, and of course it got stuck. i did vomit that night. the next morning i had a little water and i started projectile vomiting and i knew my band had slipped as i could not even tolerate liquids. you just know when it happens. i have been doing research since then. i had only lost about 25/30 pounds in 9 months and 10 pounds were in the last two months when i was exercising every day and primarily existing on protein shakes and a little very moistened canned (moist ) chicken. the first doctor i spoke with after i had my band removed, said that with all removals , he can expect some pouch dialation, so the surgery is 2/3 hours long and he does a section to repair the dialation first and then rebands. he did say that this is necessary in 99 % of slippages. then i spoke to another doctor who disagreed. my original doctor said he would prefer to place a VG band this time. i got an infection from the hospital after the removal and went back in for 3 days for I.V's. i am just now sure which procedure is best and would apply to me. i will be self pay this time. any input is greatly appreciated. thanks, lexi

    band removed

hi funny, yes i think i would prefer the VG. i am 5'3" and weighed about 212 at the time of surgery( had lost about 13/14 pre-op). i am now about 195, however most of my weight is in my tummy and i hear that a VG is better for that. lexi

    swelling above port incision

hi julier, i was banded last fall and had a very lot of swelling above my sutures. it was painful for a long time. my surgeon put my port quite high and he said he would change it out to a lower profile sometime. the pain stopped eventually. what i found helped, was putting a tummy brace on during the day when i was on my feet a lot. you can buy one your size at a medical supply place. i happened to have one from a surgery that my son had on his chest and he was very large at the time. so it worked perfectly for me. i had my band removed aug 1st, due to a slip and the area over the same incision site is swollen and hurts again. so i am wearing the brace again. it may have to do with placement as mine was just too close to the surface and high. it always stuck out. good luck with yours.....:huggie: lexi

    band removed

hi zoo mama, yes the surgery seemed the same as far as the incision sites , anesthesia and laproscopic procedure. i did not have gas, which i thought was strange, but welcoming. the only difference is with thesurgical infection i developed now 31 days ago, i am still very tired and sleep alot. i did get septicemia in hospitals twice before and it did take a long time to recover. i was told cellulitis this time, in the hospital. then a week ago, i almost fell and torqued and pulled my former port area muscle, trying to prevent the fall, and ended up having to sit and lay very still untill it healed enough to get around and was on prescription anti in flammatories. yesterday i did go for a short walk. i just can not move my arms much as i walk. so i am hoping when i have another banding that they do not put it back in the same muscle that has been assualted twice already. good luck to you, lexi

    rebanding...

hi, my band was removed this month due to a slip. i was banded here in the u.s. i would like to be rebanded in mx. with dr. runbaut. can anyone recommend someone for fills in ca.? much thanks, lexi
  13. hi, i was banded last oct. and was tight most of the time. i was banded here in the u.s. my band was a 10.75 band (4 cc capacity). i was not even able to handle .5 cc. my band slipped this month and was removed. i would like to be rebanded. i read somewhere that a woman had a VAN GUARD band installed, as most of her weight is in her tummy. i am about 5'3" and 195 pounds now, and most all of my weight is still in my tummy. also my previous surgeon did not remove my fat pad. i wonder if i need the vanguard band and the fat pad removed. what do you think? also if i have my surgery in mx. i would like to know if anyone out there knows of fill centers in cal? much thanks, lexi
