The past 5 years and beyond have been a very hard trial for my body physically as well as sometimes my emotional state of mind. In these recent years I have considerably and continued to gain weight, despite efforts of weight loss & diet & exercise. Having thyroid disease since I was 8 years old (I am now 20) has proved to be a difficult and emotionally withdrawing process. So one year ago, I began researching and decided to take further medical action to improve not just my "image" of myself, but my health. This is my decision to have Lap Band Surgery, a tool that not only help me manage and lose weight, but decrease my further chances of heart disease, increased blood pressure, cancer, shorter life expantancy, & other weight related medical issues. I hate being a statistic - I am that higher 60% chance of getting cancer or diabetes. I am in that 20% of obese people that relies on the healthcare system like a crutch due to my weight and constant medical problems. I am emotionally tired of the criticism and constant scrutiny that many obese teens and adults alike come under.

As for more vein reasons that only occupy 20% or so of my decision. I want to be able to wear anything and not feel self concious of my body. I want to be able to find my size in something I really love wearing. I want not to be medically obese the day I get married. I want to feel beautiful again.

I want to be healthy, and I have loving parents, a boyfriend, and "sister" I know I can rely on for support.

And so, this is my decision, whole heartedly.
