If you go to a doc that lets YOU tell him what band you get , GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !!! The band should be decided by YOUR Anatomy , how larege /small you are on the inside . Not by what the patients dictates or by what the doc gets at a discounted price ! I know VERY FEW people who only have ONE Fill ! It just does not happen that often and the ones who have it are LUCKY ! So dont count on it. What is your reasoning for only wanting one fill ? I have a 4cc band I have had 3 fills and 2 unfills . I have 2.8 in my band . My first 2 fills i Had 1cc put in at a time. Then we discovered ( after the second) that i cant tolerate 1cc fills at a time. So i now get smaller fills. .5 or .25 ccs at at a time. Just a piece of advice, your better of not going into this with pre convieced ideas of what YOUR going to be like. such as " I WILL only need one fill ,i WILL loose all my weight by such and such date " by doing that your not setting yourself up for failure . Go into it with knowledge and expecting the band is a tool , positive attitude but dont Expect specific things that will or wont happen to you based on other peoples circumstances. Just my 2 cents ! Last week my best friend and I went to a Brest Augmentation Seminar given by a Plastic Surgeon I would really like to use for at least some of my PS . I really learned a lot and was really impressed with the doc. I REALLY Liked the doc, his personality , I already know someone who has used him and he's pretty well known in my area. I learned some interesting things . I was on the fence between if i wanted Silicone or Saline before i went in and I am not sure i want silicone . I am still about 35 pds from goal but Wanted to start looking around for PS's . So Im glad i went over all .. Thanks Mindy

I would call the doc go in and have them look at it . could posibly be a hernia ? But im not sure how long those take to develop post op ? Right below my port site is "popped' out sort of . Its very soft, looks as if its swollen but its not . I asked my doc about it and he said its nothing. But i would ask your doc just to be sure . HTH Mindy

No you can not feel it while your just sitting there or whlie your eating. At least i cant . SOme people say they can feel the food " pass through the band" when they have good restriction. But I cant and I have had restriction since my first fill. you can however feel your port under your skin once you lose enough wait, But its not a big deal , it does not bother you . And If it does not bother me it should not bother anyone LOL im the kind of person that if i KNOW Something is there It will bug the PISS out of me . And once i could feel it I got use to it then ignored it really quickly . HTH Mindy

"Should not get caught up in the bells and whistles " SO if you knew or thought a doctor lied , stole and cheated to bring patients into the door to drum up business to make money its ok because he's a "good doctor " Would that not make you stop and question his ETHICS ? Yes medicine is practiced But if a doctor is going to use Shady "bells and whistles" to get you IN THE OR dont you think he MIGHT just try to cover up other things like complication rates that happen IN THE OR or do other things that are not ethical ? You really should stop and read that statement you just wrote and see how RIDICULOUS that sounds if you were reading it for the first time ! Also how do you KNOW that was not directly related to his work ? Because he told you so ? You just said you dont KNOW much about the bells and whistles of how he brings in his business . so how do you KNOW how he practices medicine ? Practicing ETHICAL medicine is MORE than how you operate on in the OR !! Mindy

Im not sure what you mean by " According to this website I was ahead" According to this website there are MANY Patients with MANY variations of post op diets ?? So your post makes no sense . There are THOUSANDS of people on this website and probably HUNDREDS of variations . LBT does not "Endorse" any one doctor or Diet . Mindy

YOu did not have ANY Period for 2 yrs ? If so that is not good for you . That increases your risk for cervical cancer . I have always been amazed at docs who do not discuss this or ask this question with PCOS patients. My doc wanted me to induce my periods with provera every other month , I told her no because my migraines get so bad with my periods so we agreed to once every 3 or 4 months . But i think there are docs out there that do not believe in PCOS, i dont get docs letting patients go for yrs with out periods, its so dangerious ! (not knocking you in any way , its a serious point that i think people need to know about and im glad you brought up ) Mindy

My periods have been back since the week after surgery . And frankly since I am not having any more kids its one thing I could live with out !! LOL But I got my first one a week after surgery ( THAT was fun) and I have had one The last week of the month like clock work ever since ! HTH Mindy

Did anyone get ANYTHING from the insurance company before surgery saying so ? if so I would say the insurance company does not have much leg to stand on , IF NOT Then I would be fighting with your docs office on this . Mindy

This is what I dont get. SO many times people come on and ask questions they should be asking docs and they follow by " Well its a weekend , or a holiday I dont want to bother my doc " OMG I paid $12,000 for my surgery I'll bother my doc if its 3 AM and CHRISTMAS eve if I need something !! Is it ideal ? NO But if you have a question that's what you paid them for ! I dont understand the " I dont want to bother them so i just wont call" Mindy

My guess is it is a mix up, I have heard of people being denied BEFORE surgery but not after the surgery was done. I think my response would be "TOUGH SH*T !! You should not have authorized it im not paying you back a dime " ! Good luck let us know Mindy

Have you called the doctors office ? Sometimes its a screw up where something was not turned in properly and once the paper work was done correctly its fine. I would call the docs office first . HTH good luck Mindy

I understand . I was just trying to point out that I do think there is a difference some dont see the difference or dont realize the difference in "cheating" and going against medical advice . ya know ? And I totally understand what your saying about being self pay . I constantly worry about my band, i worry if i PB if i screwed it up , if i did if i had to have another surgery how i would pay for that. ect. its always on the back of my mind. And I would have to say maybe something that is not so much on people who had insurance pay ? Im sure its there but is it as much as self pay ? Maybe not ? its hard to say ? its not a constanct worry I dont think that IF something goes wrong HOW Would you fix it like self payers do ? I might be wrong ? who knows just me thinking again ya know . Mindy

it seems to me there can be a very thin line between medical advice and or experiences as far as being a banded patient goes depending on how you handle it. But i see what your saying . Basically you cant diagnose you can suggest and then suggest seeking medical advice . I do plan on going back to school. Actually i was saying yesterday how bored i was getting at home , felt like i was doing nothing ( Im a house wife and both my kids are in school now ) and felt like i should start taking classes again .. thanks for the clarification ! OK ,, Sorry im going to jump in on this cause THIS is what irritates me ... So you know 100% that its not true that this doc NEVER Does this JUST BECAUSE he did not do it with YOU ?? THIS is my problem !!! People make blanket statements like THAT and think its gospel . WASA NEVER Said he did this with EVERY SINGLE Patient . Just because he did not do that with YOU does not mean he DOES NOT DO IT! So you can not say " ITS SIMPLY NOT TRUE" Sorry you just cant . Mindy

Is it fair to say ALL people cheat ?? Probably not , Is it probably a pretty accurate statement ? I would say so . I am self pay , do not have a lush life by any means and i have cheated, I have eaten the chocolate i should not have eaten. Have I gone against what my doc says NO , those are 2 different things ! "cheating" on what you should and should not eat and going against medical advice and advancing diets too soon ect, personally are 2 totally different things !! I personally dont think self pay VS Insurance has anything to do with it. Some do . Some thinks Self payers follow the "rules' more , I dont think it has anything to do with it at all. Mindy

I did not say EVERYONE is asking for permission . Some people are asking for permission . by that I mean , they need, want to hear someone else say " OH Yeah I did it you will be fine ' and that's all the permission they need to go ahead and go against their docs advice . J, it looks like your not very far post op , if you are having this amount of difficulties now i would suggest finding a different counselor , keep searching for one until you find one that works. And keep going . I am not sure if you have a fill yet or not , but if you have not had a fill that will help control the over eating. But you have to get there first. Try putting visual cues in your car if you go on auto pilot . Something like a Sign with Nuggets on it and a big STOP over it ! Seriously . if you have something that you can look at that redirects you when you start going that way it might help . No one is judging , people are here to help , and I personally do not and will not pat anyone on the back and say there there its ok you just did what you did ( not you anyone) it does them no good. do not beat yourself up over the slip up . BUT do everything you can from doing it AGAIN ! if it means going into Mc Donalds and telling them to NOT SERVE you . Do it . tell everyone your with to not let you eat there. For me it was MUCH easier not to "cheat" directly after surgery than it is as time goes on . So be very careful . Do what ever it takes for yourself to succeed . HTH Mindy
