New 60+ Thread
Hi! I had mine at 62 and it was the best thing I ever did for ME! The surgery was very easy for me and so was the recovery...I was driving in just a few days. No Heparin shots for me...but I have heard of others getting it. I guess it depends on your other medical history. Not sure about the others..but mentally this feels wonderful. The weight is coming off slowly but I have a very conservative surgeon..just got my 3rd fill and my sursery was in October! Down 60 pounds so I can not complain and I feel great. No issues at all with the port or band. I wish you alot of luck.... PS..today I am cleaning out my closets and giving away almost all my clothes..nice feeling but also hard to do! Gail

October 2009 Surgery Date?
Christmas was really hard for me and I gained weight! Got back on the wagon and doing good...but slow. I only have 1.5cc in my band...and it seems fine. I did start going to the gym and it does help....the older you are the harder for the pounds to drop off! Start fresh tomorrow like you were just banded! Then you will be able to get back in the routine. Good luck!

Question for Self Payers??????///
My insurance did not cover either...however, they did pay for part of the anesthesia and the surgicenter. But not the actual surgery...so make sure they send in the bills anyway!

scared of getting a fill
I had my first on Weds and he numbed it...so after the first little needle...all you felt was a little pressure. No issues at all. In fact, I do feel restriction.....more today then the others....not hungry at all. Good luck and don't worry!

First Fill
Hey! I had my first fill today too! Numbed it up and gave me a little saline....he did not tell me the exact amount but somewhere between 1-2cc. But I can feel it. I am surprised too...I can tell when I drink Water..no more gulps! No restriction on food today....but I am eating light anyway. Good luck with the fill!

I can eat and drink anything too! I try hard not too! I get my first fill tomorrow and I am anxious to see if it helps. I am not straving...but when I start to eat...I feel I eat more then I should. I am happy overall with the band and the weightloss...I just need to move my rear and start to exercise! Have a good evening!

Alcohol?
My doctor told me use moderation...enjoy it as this is a livestyle change not a diet.

October 2009 Surgery Date?
You sound like you are doing great! I am about the same with no pre op diet.(except I was losing on my own by cutting back.and stopping my diet coke..but I was banded on the 13th. I really try not to eat too much...but nothing much really bothers me! I chew too...to an oatmeal consistency...too much chewing can cause a paste that blocks! You just can't win! No fill until December:unsure: I was hoping sooner...but I think I can hang in there! Keep up the great work....

Why do people treat others differently when they are fat?
Gee..I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I do understand about some people being so insensitive to overweight folks...it is really sad. But good luck with your weightloss! Think positive!

If you didn't tell many people about your surgery...
I did the same thing...did not tell many people at all during the "planning" stages....but a week before and after...who cares! I tell anyone on a need to know basis....if we are going out for dinner...I think my companions should know so they don't think something is wrong because I am eating odd...they would figure it out anyway. I could give a toot what others think...it is your body...and I could care less who knows now. In someway..you may be opening the door to discussion for someone else who may need a little help too. Good Luck!

kinda skipped the mushy food diet
I was banded the same day as you...so it must be the day! I too skipped right over the mushies and went to regular food. Only my doctor knew and said it was ok as long as I made good choices and chewed the food. I am doing fine and most foods agree with me. I also had salad and it went right down with no issues. I am careful what I eat and also with the portion size. I don't feel deprived at all. He is even allowing me a little wine. Overall, I feel great. I sleep better then I did in years and I feel like have more energy too. Now to get on a good exercise schedule! Good luck!

I need more then soup
If you have a Trader Joe's near you...try the tomato and red pepper soup (not spicy-sweet) and a big spoonful of low fat ricotta cheese in it....yummy!

New 60+ Thread
Hi! Gee...I happy to see some posting on the over 60! Since I am a newbie with banding...it is so encouraging to see how successful you all have been. It certainly is motivating! It will be 2 weeks on Tuesday...and honestly..I am doing fine. I noticed that someone is riding the bike....we have one..started to use but can only do 15 minutes right now. What is the average that you ride? Of course I can not find the instructions! But I know this AM I burned 205 calories...I think that is ok. Doing my first dinner out.....MD said I could have some wine....guess I will have soup or something soft. 2/3 will probably come home with me...no cooking for a few days or Joe can have it for dinner on Sunday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Wearing a Body Shaper
Hi!..I was just banded a week ago and was wondering if the experienced bandsters wore/wear body shapers during their weight loss period? Is it good to have support so you are not as flabby after a significant loss? I guess would it help? Thanks!
