  1. I am scared too. I can't be specific because I don't know what is coming other than what I read. I know I am afraid of the pain after surgery. Then what if I am a 70 year old with a lap band. Am I still going to want it? I read the longest someone had a lap band was 14 years and in Australia. I don't know this for a fact. What happens after 20 years. No one knows. I think I am going to do it but I have my doubts now and then to. I guess we just need encouragement.
  2. Congratulations on your surgery. I am gald you are doing well. Keep us posted. We want to hear all the details even the awful ones.
  3. Okay you guys are really scaring me. I ama total chicken. Pain makes me vomit. Did anyone ever get to that point? Also I read somewhere (boy I wish I could find it) where some one said their doctor removed some of the gas that they use to inflate you during surgery. Is that possible? If so I am sure going to check into it Thanks
  4. Glad surgery went well for you. I am also very glad the pain is not too bad. Keep reasting and let us know how you are doing. Good job.
  5. How are you doing? Did you make it through the surgery or did you have to cancel? Keep us posted.
  6. I have acid reflux and as I understand it the band is supppose to make it better. I have not had the surgery. I just got this information from reading.
  7. I am not telling anyone but my husband. Not even my daughter until it is over. Maybe not even then if I am not feeling too bad. I am not embarassed nor do I care what anyone thinks of me. I am a private person I want to keep it private. I have lost a great deal of weight before and I am just doing it again. I don't think anyone will know the difference and if they do and ask I will tell them that I am eating less and exercising. Which I am. I don't even like vanity plates on a persons car because it tells me to much about them. I am glad all of you are having the surgery and I think we are going to do great whether people know or not. Keep up the good work.
  8. Does anyone have vasovagal syndrome and was banned. Please let know of your experience. Thanks
  9. Hi Everyone: Thanks so much for your answers. You are very smart insightful people. You got the point of my question and answered it, as well as more. I REALLY appreciate the time it took to answer this question. It is hard to really ask and explain these types of questions on line. You all gave such well thought out answers I am proud to be associated with a such a great group. I will be successful with the lap band surgery and your answers have helped, as well as, reinforced my desire to do so. Thanks for taking the time and I know it took a lot of time to answer my question. Have a great day Pickles
  10. Has anyone ever said they just can't afford the program fee so will not be able to do have the surgery? That is the doctor just letting $240 to $3500 WOW) stand in front of a $20,000 sure thing. I wonder if it would work? I sure don't have the money for much up front costs when the insurance says it is all covered. This thread was so long I don't remember who; but ,someone said it was illegal to charge that fee. Can you tell me a little more about this? Thanks all and good dieting.
  11. I have learned from reading these postings (It seems like forever) If you get an answer from the insurance company you don't like, wait a day and call back and talk to someone else. ) It seems to have worked a lot of times for a lot of people. If you get that "just right" person and they send it to you in writing, I think you are in. As I see it they are probably told to turn down as much as possible. (Just my opinion) I know I am going to try it when the time comes up. And, I know it will. Good luck on your quest.
  12. I can see that already. Be glad you are as far along as you are. You are doing great.
  13. Boy I sure do hate bad breath, as you all do I am sure; but, I am kind of fanatic about it. They say it comes from your stomach. I wonder if there are any dentists on here that could suggest something.
  14. I don't know if I am allowed to do this; but, please answer my question. It is in the pre lap band surgery section entitled "Still more questions about surgery" I really think you guys have the answers I want. It is about psychologically losing and why. Thanks I would retype it hear but I don't think I could get it all the way I wanted to say it again. Thanks
  15. Thanks for answering. I am glad someone got the point of my question. I wanted to do a poll of who lost and didn't and why but I couldn't figure out how to. I hope we get more answers. I see a lot of views but few answers. Great work on your lifestyle change. You did great. I hope to be where you are by next year.
  16. Even if you are approved. How much are you paying in addition? Will I have to pay for the First consultation appointment? BCBS said everything is paid for but people have been talking about fees that different Dr's have that are not part of the insurance stuff> (I think that is what they mean) I hope I don't have to pay much because we are out of work. I thought if insurance covered it, it was all covered. Thanks
  17. Great Holli: You can tell you really want this surgery. It shows.
  18. Just another gross question? Do you all feel like you have bad breath all the time? Just when I diet I feel like I do. How do you handle this other than the obvious flossing, brushing etc. Mints or what? Does it ever go away?
  19. I had found on most forums that you read there is a lot of complaining about why or how something didn't work. More negative than positive. I guess that is how people complain. In these forums most people seem to have good or great success with weight loss surgery. For those that don't, other than for a medical reason, why not? This scares me. I can't imagine spending all the money, going through all the pain and then not losing the weight. What happens? I read the threads about statistics of only losing part of your weight; but people on these boards seem to lose atleast half and usually more. I am determined to lose and I am sure that those that didn't were too. So what happens? Is this a too psychological question to ask at night? I have lost before and gained it back. That is where I feel the lap band will come into play. It will not let me gain it back. I am not going to be doing a lot of PBing I can assure you. Because throwing up is one of the worst things for me. If I decide I don't want it any longer, I will just have it unfilled; but not losing I just don't get it. Sorry for going on and on I am just not understanding probably the psychology, of those that don't lose. Please give me viewpoints. Those that lost and those that didn't and why you think it happened? I have done weight watchers and lost but gained it back. A lot of weight watcher people thing surgery is just not necessary, as I am sure other folks do. Thanks for any information you can provide.
  20. I have not read much about Scottsdale Bariatric Center, Dr. Robin Blackstone and Dr. Kurt Sprunger. Would some people that have used them please let me know what they think? I am considering them for adjustable gastric band. I live in the Phoenix Az area. Thanks for any information you can provide
  21. I am so sorry the two of you did not get your surgery done today. I have not had mine yet (I am just starting the process) I can just imagine the anxiety you have gone through and now to wait again. Hang in their girls. You know girls rule. We are all going to beat this thing yet. Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.
  22. Congratulations!!! I am so glad you are approved.
  23. Thank you all. I have searched and the final answer side for Athem that TSB posted seemed to give me most of my answers. Thanks so much you guys. I have hope now and can start the process. I will keep you all posted. Anyone that can give me any help I can sure use it. Thanks so much. Pickles123
