Any 14 year olds out there?
I am currently fifteen and was deinied in December for the surgery with the exvuse that I wasn't done growing. My surgeon was an all go for it, as was my regular doctor. I think that the only issue your child will run into will be the inurance company. (Btw, we proved that I was done growing with a few x-rays and are now fighting my insurance company.)

Just Learning
Ok, so my father went through a mid life crisis or something and came home with a brand new Harley Dyna Superglide awhile back ago. I have been in LOVE ever since. I got to steer it a few days ago (I had to lean around him, highly uncomfortable btw), and I had no clue what I was doing. I never learned how to ride a bike, I can't drive anything with a clutch, and I have an incredibly short attention span. I know that it will be a couple of years before I will ever be able to actually drive one, but does anyone have any tips on how to learn???

Urgh, we have to go to a new nutritionalist now. =( I guess that this is the first speedbump in this whole process for me.

Lol, my nutritionist gave me some of their vitamins and I tried one in her office. When I left I just gave the rest of them back. She seemed to get a real kick out of that. XD

Yah, I did. I almost lost my dinner. But it was probably just the brand, he always buy's the cheapest thing no matter what it is. Lol, I feel like a kid again. I have to take Calcium and Vitamins now, so we went out and bought Flinstone vitamins. I haven't had them since I was little! =)

Yah, I'll try and convince him to make his shake tonight so that I can taste it. I went to see my nutritionalist today! It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. :cool2:

Trust me, I'll get plenty of exercise. Band Camp starts in two weeks and it's State year, so I'll probably be dead by September. As for the Cookies and Cream, my dad says that it is disgusting and worst than chocolate. Trust me, if he won't eat it, then it has to be bad.

0_o...lol, I didn't understand half of that! XD I'll figure it out though. how long is this liquid diet going to last? Am I going to be on it until November??? (Lol, I forgot what my daddy ate and stuff, but I know that it'll probably be different because I'm so young. XD )

Ugh. I know, my dad goes out and buys these huge like, two gallon things of the powder. He used to only get chocolate, so one day I decided to try it and I started gagging. He hasn't bought any vanilla, but I have had Special K Protien shakes...but I'm not sure if that is the same thing. Right now he's got Cookie's and Cream, so I'm thinking that once I get home I'll try it. Wow, lol, I'm kind of rambling. XD

Ok, I went and met Dr. Ferrera today! Everything went good, and he said that we could get me banded by November with no problem!

things I like to do for fun(form of excersise)
Lol, I consider the fair exercise, but then again, when me and my friends are trying to find an excuse to not exercise, we say that shopping is exercise. XD I wish that I had learned to ride a bike or roller blade. =(

Lol, thanks to both of you. And I'm used to the whole blood work-fasting thing, so that would be no biggie for me. My mom is an insurance person, so we know that we are covered... And what happens if we can't lose the weight they tell us to... (And btw, I lose my train of thought all the time! XD)

Aha! Lol, it's kind of a stupid one, but we have our first appointment with the surgeon on Friday, and I like to know what's going to go down in any situation. So, what is the norm for the first appointment?

My mom and I are trying to do the same thing. And I've been trying to find someone else who was young on here as well. =D And thank you, I don't have any questions now, which means that I'll probably think of atleast five right after I post this.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Young Teen!
Hey, I'm fifteen and am supposed to be getting the Band close to December. My father got the band last December, and now my mother and I are going to get it. I love my dad, but I know that whatever I ask he is going to be biased, and I know he get's annoyed that I keep asking him the same things but with different wording, just be sure that he's being honest. I just really think that it would be best if I had someone who was un-biased to ask questions and go to for support. I'm into music, Marching Band (Go band nerds!!!), Electronics, writing, animals, eco-friendly things, most teenage girl stuff, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. XD

How do you tell your friends?
I've told three people outside of my family. One of them is my best friends in the entire FREAKING world, and the only reason I told her is because she goes after anyone who is rude to me in the slightest way. The second one weighs more than I do, and he is supportive but is now upset because he can't afford it. The third was a mistake, he now can only talk about dating me when I get down to a 'reasonable' size. I tell him to go away, because obviously I want nothing to do with him anymore, but he won't. I think that you should, as should everyone else, be careful who you tell, and maybe even word it differently to each person.

Waiting for consult appt!
Hi! I'm eight years younger than you, but in the same boat. My insurance has approved me and the doctor that did my father said that if our family doctor will approve me, then we can get the ball rolling. I think that you will be approved. but then again, I'm stil ignorant of the real world, being protected by the barriers of childhood and what-not. Keep me updated though!

I'm a teen from Washington State
Hi Lalida! I can feel where you are coming from when you say that you have missed out on Teenage Expierience's. It really hurts when you can't go shopping, ride the same rides, or when your friends feel like they have to watch what they say. Just speak your concern's to your doctor and make it clear that if he won't approve you, someone else will. I was lucky, my doctor wanted me to get it six months ago, but my family just wasn't sure. Now we are, and we will search the entire state of Texas for a doctor that will approve me if this one won't. If you ever need someone to just talk to (My friends call me the Shrink. lol) then just message me or something. And keep me updated!!!

Teenager
Thank you. I heave been teased since Elementary school, and I have seen what obesity can do to someone as an adult. I am already expierienceing joint pain, which can keep me in bed all day sometimes. I am already bigger than any of my family members were BEFORE they were 18. I have tried so many otehr things, and none have worked. I have only been a member of this site for an hour at most, and I can already see that I will be able to come here for support! Thank you!

Teenager
Hi, my names Andy and I'm fifteen (In three days). My father got this procedure done in December. Just recently, I had a Diabetes scare and that was when my doctor sat me down and said 'Look, we need to do something about this, and fast if possible.' After seeing the amazing results my father had, my mother and I are going to a doctor's appointment to see if the family doctor will approve us for this surgery. I would love to hear about anyone's success story, and even the stories of how this procedure failed them. If there is anyone else on this site who is a teen or got this procedure done in their teens, then please get in contact with me!
