August BANDits weekly weigh-in
- 4 Days Post Op Question
What you're experiencing isn't unusual. It took me almost 3 weeks after surgery to have a movement. I have read on the site that others also experience this problem. Drink lots of Water, easier said than done... However, now that I'm eating food again and drinking LOTS of water things are better than they were prior to surgery - like you, I wasn't regular. Hang in there.- how many cc's on first fill
I had my first fill last week 9/15, 5ml in a 14ml band. Everything seems fine, I go back for my second fill the second week of November. I guess I'll eat a lot less turkey for Thanksgiving as result - Favorite Protein rich foods
CRAB!!! I love crab and make crab cakes regularly, which I freeze and have available when the family has something for lunch/dinner that isn't good for me. You can really reduce the calories and carbs and still maintain great flavor by using egg whites instead of whole eggs and using reduce fat mayo. By the way, each crab cake is only 105 cals w/ 16g of Protein. I also make crab salad.- What are you eating each day?
Hi! I was told to stay w/n 1000-1200 cals and to get 80-100g of Protein each day - 3 meals and 2 Snacks. By the way, I just received my first fill Tuesday 9/15 - 5ml in my 14 ml band. A typical day includes the following: Protein shake on my drive in to the office. Cereal around 9:30 or so (usually, cream of wheat made w/skim milk and a single packet of sugar) snack mid-morning: dry roasted sunflower seeds or rice cakes lunch: crabcake, which I make with a little low fat mayo and egg whites, panko bread crumbs and seasonings... or I'll have a veggie burger minus the bread - though, I'm allowed Pita, bagels and any whole grain breads at this point. snack late afternoon: protein shake dinner: fish, chicken or crab w/steamed or stir fry veg If I haven't gotten enough protein, I'll drink an Isopure or bullet before bed.- 1st fill of 4 CC and kinda scared
I had my first fill today; 5ml in my 14ml band. It was performed in the Radiology dept of the hospital as my doc does the first few fill via fluoroscopy - he cleaned the area off, then injected something to numb the area (something similar to novacaine); there was a little discomfort (nothing bad) when he inserted the tube to administer the saline solution. I drank a contrast solution shortly after, then they removed the tube and I was done. I go back again in 8 weeks.- pre-op liquid diet menu?
Lots of liquid Protein in the form of shakes (unjury) and Ispoure (grape frost & blue raspberry) drinks. Typical day: Breakfast: shake snack: 1/2 Isopure drink lunch: Soup - my doc allowed creamy Soups as long as I watched the carbs snack: the remaining half of the isopure drink dinner: soup and yogurt also, most evenings I'd have one of the following before bed: yogurt: low-fat sugar free Jello: sugar free popcicle: sugar free protein bullet - if I didn't reach the protein target You'll be surprised at how full you'll be if you take in 80-100g of protein.- Why Cheat?
I find you very interesting.- Protein, Protein, Protein...
I should have named this thread "HAIR" ; - }- Why Cheat?
As I mentioned earlier, I plan to use every tool available to help me succeed; I didn't go thru the pain of surgery to do anything but succeed. If I find that I'm weakening at any point - I am human; I will contact the surgeon's office, psychologist or nutritionist for all the support they can offer. I still feel that there's no reason to cheat when we all have a variety of support options available.- Is a nicotene test always required
Yes, MOM I know- who is starting mushies??
Gee, I was banded on the 10th and doc told me I could start mushies on the 31st, exactly 3 weeks after surgery. I'm jealous...- I can see why people cheat....
A juicy rib eye steak called to me. I prepared them for my husband and son 2 days before surgery. The Dogs loved me that day; I prepared an extra steak and sat at the kitchen counter away from everyone else (no need in grossing the guys out) and chewed small pieces of my steak, which I then feed to the dogs. Nope, I didn't swallow any of it, this was probably the best meal the dogs have ever gotten.- Protein, Protein, Protein...
I guess I've been lucky, I haven't experienced ANY hair loss and I'm actually starting to see some definition in my face. I've since increased the Protein and don't feel as fatigued - could be mind over matter. Whatever the case, whether there's a correlation between hair & protein - energy & protein... I'll continue to follow the docs orders - increased protein, walking, Vitamins... as this seems to work for me.- I feel like crap ):
I'm 2 weeks out and can't wrap my mind around food, especially junk food. Stay away from the junk... give your body a chance to heal. I'm counting down to my 3 week mark so that I can add egg whites (the thought of an egg white omelete is dancing in my head), fish, soggy cereals and cottage cheese - yep, stage 3 (pureed diet). Don't screw yourself up. Hang in there and do what the doctor has ordered - you can do this.- Is a nicotene test always required
My doc also required that I stop smoking; I tried repeatedly but found it difficult during the week prior to surgery (pre op liquid diet). I actually had my last cig the night before surgery which was scheduled for 2:30 on Aug 10th. The doc came by to see me prior to the procedure and asked if I had stopped smoking and I lied and said yes, 3 days ago - actually it was more like 16 hrs:blush:. I wouldn't recommend this to you or anyone else; I seem to be the poster child for bad behavior. The surgery went as scheduled and I couldn't smoke for a week after. I thought that I could stop at this point but needless to say, I'm smoking again, not as much as before. Just sharing my experience...- DC Metropolitan Area...
I live in Bowie, Maryland and was wondering if there are others in the DC Metropolitan area that may be interested in meeting once a month or perhaps once every 3 months to offer support share recipes or anything else that you can think of? Just a thought...- Protein, Protein, Protein...
Hello! I saw the doc for my post op visit yesterday and complained about being so very tired. Well, the answer to my problem appears to be Protein. Seems protein is the answer to everything. Not only does protein prevent hair loss, and the drawn look people get from weight loss - it also helps increase energy. I've been informed to increase my protein from 60g per day to 80-100g per day to increase my energy level. By the way, I wanted to share a tip that the nutritionist shared with me - I hate the chemical/weird smell of protein powders; well, the nutritionist suggested that I add extract to the shakes. I add 1 teaspoon to each drink and that has actually gotten rid of weird smell. She also suggested, almond, orange... extracts. Just wanted to pass this along.- I wake up with pain every night?
Hey YankeeGirl!!! Great to hear that you've gotten a good nights sleep. This will definately help in your recovery. I know that as soon as I received a goods night sleep I felt more like myself again. I actually feel that I can go back to work Monday 8/24 w/o any problem; before I felt that I'd never get to this stage. Continue to sleep well and rest and please do as the dr says - I'm following my orders to the ine to the letter. Hang in there.- Your 1st goal and reward !!
My first goal is to lose 17 more pounds and be well under 200lbs for the first time in years and treat myself to some cute undies... Yep, a trip to victoria's secret for a matching bra/pantie set.- I wake up with pain every night?
I was banded on Aug 10th. Initially I slept on 3 pillows, pretty much sitting up while I slept - not the most restful. Then a fellow bandster suggested sleeping on my side with a pillow wedged on my side - voila! this has worked like a charm. You only need to test which side works best for you; I realized that the left side hurt like heck, so the right side it is. I also take a stroll outside w/a Protein Drink before bed this helps me get rid of some of the trapped gas. I'm actually starting to feel more like myself. By the way, the 4th and 5th day after surgery appeared to be my worst - pain, gas, fatigue... then the 6th day it was like someone flipped a switch and things were brighter. I'm still a little tired but I guess that's to be expected since I barely get 500 cals in a day. I plan to speak with the doc about the fatigue Thursday when I return for my follow up appt. Hang in there...- question about protica protein bullets
I like the orange flavored - 3.5oz and I've gotten half my protein for the day - 42g. Also, I appreciate the fact that there's no after taste. I hate prolonging the sip, sip, sip... of drinking the shakes (can't stand) and other products. I tend to have 1/2 bottle of isupure (grape frost) for breakfast and the other 1/2 after lunch; then I have the protein shot late evening before bedtime and I'm guaranteed to get the 80g the dr requires daily.- Banded Aug 10th - just tired...
48 hrs post surgery, I started Protein Based liquid diet - with a protein target of 60g/day - gradually increasing to 80g. NO MORE than 8oz per hour. NO liquids w/n 30-60 minutes of meals. Eat 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks, which may include: Protein drinks, Meal Replacement shakes Non-fat milk, soy milk, non-fat lactaid milk High Protein cream Soups (pre-packaged, or mix low fat Soup w/protein powders Low-fat sugar free yogurt (no fruit lumps) or pudding thinned w/milk- Banded Aug 10th - just tired...
Hi Sabertooth, I haven't had any issues with hunger. I find that taking in Protein fills the void. Since surgery, I tend to nurse a bottle of Isopure 40g protein and add - 4 Days Post Op Question
