  1. Well I did it! Surgery was Tuesday! Went in to hospital at 6amand was discharged yesteday around 2pm. Last thing I remember was them putting the "happy juice" in and I was gone. A woke in recovery with really no pain at all. Just like a minor irriration where the incisisions were. Worst thing so far is the pain (like a runner's cramp) under my left rip and my left shoulder. Also a little diarhea. Burping is quite painful. Like someone stabbing me in the shoulder blade. Hope that goes away soon! Feeling some hunger but I think it's head hunger. Fell asleep when I got home after some juice and am just now waking up. Kind of wierd now that I am home...like it was a dream. Going to try and go back to bed. :tongue_smilie: And so it goes.......

Day 10 post op: SO ready to go back to work!! Bored out of my mind...:tt1:...which is not helping with eating. But I've been good for the most part. Sticking with the smoothies on a regular basis with a little "mush" food cheating here and there. Nothing crazy. Peice of dry toast with sugar free applesauce on it does the trick . Have had some Campbell's soup also. Couldn't eat a whole bowl. I have to admit I did go out one night just to get out. Stopped at a bar/restaurant my friend works. Had a cup of cream of crab soup and it caused some restriction pain but not too severe. Enough to remind me not to over-do it like that. Was going to buy a scale to keep track of my weight, but decided not to. Would rather just see how it goes the first month or so. Keep waiting for the bomb to drop...the whole LAP-BAND® experience has been relatively uneventful. Minimal pain, no PB, no sliming. Burping is different than it was. Even though I am 100% satisfied with my surgeon, the clinic she works out of is really pissing me off. I've called twice with post-op questions, once this week and once last week. I'm still waiting for them to call back. Have an appt. w/ the surgeon on Tues. and plan on venting a little. And so it goes.......

  6. Ok...day 4 post op! Woo hoo! Made it through the "juice party" barely. Back to Crystal Light which I love! Started protein shakes yesterday...bleh! Supplimenting some of the liquid with watermelon which is doing good. Called my surgeon's office yesterday to question about taking my BP meds and they didn't call back. :tongue_smilie: So after I felt like I was going to stroke out, I decided to take them as is one capsule, one tablet a half hour apart. Feeling better. Can't get to sleep...bored and a little hungry. Had my last shake around 10pm last night. Decided to eat a peice of dry toast and about 3 tablespoons of sugar free apple sauce. Can't wait for the 2 wks to be up so I can start on some substantial food!!! And so it goes.......

Surgery day! Fell asleep earlier in the evening & woke up around midnight. UGH! Have to be at the hospital at 6am. They certainly won't have any problem getting me to go to sleep! Surgeon "threatened" me with a catheter if I couldn't pee for her when I arrived. My back teeth are floating!! Guess I'll leave it here...I'll be back post-surgery! And so it goes.......

    September 2009 Band Date

Greetings y'all. Getting banded TOMORROW! <gulp> Am a nervous wreck! Things were OK until my sick, twisted little mind thought, "Holy crap, I'm getting banded in the hospital I was born in! How sucky would it be for me if complications set in and I croaked in the same hospital I was born in???" Wish me luck!

Can't believe it's been almost 3 months since I've posted! So let me get caught up here. My surgery date is Tuesday. Yep...this Tuesday! Nerves on edge. Not so much for the surgery, but worried about running in to insurance issues. I don't even know for sure whether I am covered for this. I have CareFirst BC/BS of MD, and have completed (finally) all their requirements. I have several of the comorbidity issues. I would think that my surgeon would have said something if they weren't going to cover it. Right? Am calling on Monday just to ease this stress. I had a nightmare Saturday night that I had the surgery, life was good, and then all of a sudden I'm in prison with some of the scariest fellas you'd ever seen. And all thru the dream I'm desperately trying to figure out why I'm in prison. Well after what seemed like forever, I'm finally in the warden's office demanding to know why I'm there and he says, "Because your insurance didn't cover your surgery and you couldn't pay the bill!!! Woke up in a real tizzy that's for sure! Ugh! I'm such a procrastinator about EVERYTHING! Spent most of the weekend reading posts about insurance issues. Seems like there shouldn't be a problem. Am trying to stay positive and deep down I'm sure my surgeon and her associates in the office are on the ball. There a great bunch of people! Still going to call Monday AM because I know I won't sleep that night as it is! Will blog back on Monday! And so it goes.......

Thank you folks for you support.
  20. So here we go: I'm just going to start by telling a little about myself. I'm a 44 yr old divorced male living in Baltimore, MD. For as long as I can remember, I've been heavy. Or as my friends & family refer to...stocky, husky, big framed, or large boned. Oy! Gimme a frickin' break...at this point in time at my age, height, and weight...I on the very beginning line of morbid obesity. In February when I first started to go for this I weighed in at 297 lbs. My insurance requires that I attend 6 classes with a dietician on staff once a month. She's a lovely person, but I don't think she's every had an ounce of body fat on her. lol But she must be doing something right because at my class last week, I weighed in at 288 lbs. Crazy! Do I need to do this or can I do it myself. The actual question should be "Can I do it myself and stick with it??!!" More than likely no. Anyway, I am a fire dept. dispatch supervisor at 911 and I contribute a lot of where I'm at, to that. 21 yrs sitting behind a radio console inhaling take-out meals, and raiding the machines for munchies. Oh and not to forget the long hours of unending overtime never releasing my grip on a bottle of the poison I would kill for...Mt. Dew! Now of course, I'm not placing blame. I know good and well, I did this to myself. For several reasons which I may or may not get in to in later posts. I probably will. But for now I'll leave you at the beginning and will be back often to share my story. And so it goes.......
