Not for the squeamish or shy...

Christy, your surgery is not that far behind you. I still had pain on and off, I can't really remember what kind, but I took a little pain meds and it went away. I think as long as you are going every couple of days (if not every day) you will be fine. My friend (who was my operating nurse) told me "we screwed around with your insides and they don't like it". So I just chalked it up to that. Maybe I was wimpy, but the pain meds really did the trick. I figured no one was offerring any medals to those who don't use it. Trust me, I tried to earn one with natural childbirth! Ann & John~ How are you guys? I ate a little salad today but was nervous the whole time! I chewed like a champ!

John~ You have to give your body a break... it's trying to survive! I am sure you have hit a plateu and once it adjusts a bit you will lose again quickly. I was just starting to think something was wrong with me too. I eat less than 1000 calories per day and NOTHING... finally dropped another two pounds a couple of days ago. I guess if it were easy, we would have been skinny a long time ago. Hang in there, you're an inspiration! Ann~ I did the same thing with some shorts. I decided to take a trip to Tahoe and by the time I got there I had then completly unbuttoned! I don't suppose that was much of an option for you while you are at work though! I think I am down 20 pounds. I have my post-op appointment tomorrow. I guess the Doc will just make sure I am healing right... right? It's at 4:30 pm, I HATE weighing in the afternoon. At least it will be better than before.

    Anyone hungry?

Or is it just me? I am supposed to eat like 2 TBS of soft/pureed food at a time. It's not doing it! I am H-U-N-G-R-Y! WHat are you guys doing and is it working for you? BTW, I have not lost any weight in like a week, in spite of not eating much. What's going on?

    Anyone hungry?

I guess basically I should suck it up and stop whinning! Thanks for the tip. I did your Protein thing/water trick and it worked. I realize I need to do that everytime I start thinking about food. Bottom line is I am hungry, which means eat... which means protein and H2O! How is it going for you now?

    First taste of "real" food!

Thanks, I will have to try it this weekend. I was just looking at your numbers and we are almost twins. I will be 38 in August, I started at 287 lbs, am now probably 268 and am hoping for 150. How cool is that?

    First taste of "real" food!

Chili sounds SO yummy! Does that count as pureed, or soft food? I am ready to start grabbing food off of people's plates. I am going to have to start eating more... I feel social unacceptability coming on...

1 week post op follow up visit-SO HAPPY!

Cyndi, well you better get used to those kinds of compliments! Things are changing by the day for you. You must feel so proud! Ann~ I wouldn't mind coming over for dinner... those are some good ideas! I don't go in until next week, so it will be 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. I will be eatinf mushies. What is the difference between mushy stuff and pureed? I steam up carrots and then mush them up and eat them. Is this mushy or pureed? They are the consitency of baby food (That's how I made our baby food).

    First taste of "real" food!

I will have to get some, Ann. I am thinking about food ALL THE TIME. Maybe if I make what I can eat taste better it will be easier.

    Ok so, sleeping....

I slept with three pillows behind me, one flat one slanted on the flat one and one under my head. One pillow under my hips to make my legs in kind of a sitting position and one pillow under my left arm. A little codiene and I slept all night. I started sleeping on my side with pillows on day 5 or 6. Hope this helps! Congrats on being banded!

    I feel good!

Glad all is going well! Mac~ I guess you will have to suffer through with the underwire. That port spot sure can get sore. My friend was my operating nurse and she told me that they use muscle retractors and they pull really hard there to get the port in place. Two thumbs up on the busty part though! I will be complaining that I am loosing weight in all the wrong places and you will be looking glamorous! Cyndi~ You sound like a trooper, when do you go back to work? I am a stay at home Mom, with three boys. My youngest is 2 and although he knows Mommy has "big owies" he wants me to hold him. :smile2: We cuddle on the couch, but it's not the same. I do have to pick him up to get him in his carseat from time to time. He isn't always cooperative. I took a dose of codiene this evening, I must have overdone today. Ann~ Do spanx come in all sizes? I heard about them on Oprah, but I never even looked to see if they would fit me. I guess it will be time to do so soon. I am so excited about the day I stop thinking things won't fit! That day is coming for us all!

    HiVES!

Hey Rosie... that sounds miserable... I sure hope the benedryl kicks in soon. Hives aren't any fun, and it is not as if you are having fun getting them! I would suggest you knock out everything new from your diet. Go back to the basics and add new stuff in one at a time. You may never know what is causing your hives but it would be nice for them to be a thing of the past!

John~ you are doing so wonderfully! I am jealous of you getting to eat though. It is amazing that doctors are so different. I will be on pureed foods for 10 days, then graduate to "mushies". What the heck is "mushies"? Everything is mushy when I chew it! I am totally on the look out for food, I have been doing the liquid Protein thing since May 1st and I'm going to cave! Grilled veggies are my FAVORITE. I think I am almost down 20 pounds although I do not go see the doctor until next week. Xavier~ Benefiber... I will be giving that a go. Perhaps it would be a good stock choice! Tinman~ So glad that you are doing so well! Keep us updated! Ann~ You made it through the work week... how did it go? I am feeling good, but I sure wouldn't mind a meal soon. I won't eat until I am given the "all clear" though. Did any of you have to go in for a follow-up upper GI? I had to do that Monday. I guess all looked good because I haven't gotten a call. No news is good news!

Not for the squeamish or shy...

Oh man, John. I am sorry and I can relate. I should have taken my own advice, by the time I was done today, I swear I am swollen shut. It hurts to pass gass. Sorry if this is too much info... but where else can you share this? (Although I considered sending out birth announcements for the rock of Gilbraltar today). I just looked at your ticker and you are already half way to your weight loss goal! That is amazing! I need to update mine, but I will have to do it after I get the boys to bed. Kids are calling...

I get to eat pureed foods on Wed. I have not thought of the menu yet because when I let my mind go there, I start getting hungry! John, that constipation sure can make things tough! Drinking a little Milk of Magnesia will liquify anything you got going. I have found that to be helpful, everyother day or so. What is a good way to get fiber in when we are able to eat? Does anyone have a good method? I went to my sons basketball game and it was SO good to be out! Sitting in bleachers with a two year old climbing on me was a bit much, so now I am home with a little pain meds on board. I will not be taking him to the next game! :rolleyes2:

Just checking in with you guys. I walked to the park yesterday and I felt ok afterwards, although I think it was too much too soon. By the time I got there all I could do was park it on a bench. Then when I came home I took some pain meds and needed to lie down. That was my first real outing. I am going to a couple of basketball games tomorrow. My son is in a tournament. Are you guys back at it? How is it going? I have heard people go back to work by day three... I can't imagine!

Not for the squeamish or shy...

My Doc told my husband after surgery that I should have some Milk of magnesia (sp?) Wow does that work! IF you are nervous, drink 3 TBS of that, but make sure you are home for the day! No cramping and you will be amazed!:scared2:

    I cheated

Thanks for posting that, Dani. I am on day 6 and have been feeling hungry. Reading your post is going to keep me on the straight and narrow. I am sorry you felt so badly. Hope you feel better soon, but thank you for sharing!
  18. I agree! Tell your husband... and also let him know that you aren't telling anyone because you have made this personal decision for YOURSELF and am not open to other opinions. I am SO proud of you! It was a tough choice to make when I have so much support, so to do it without takes SO much courage! You obviously have the strength and tenacity to do this and I look forward to hearing of your great success. What your family has put your sister through is amazing. I would avoid that too! But if you should find yourself under crossfire, I would just tell them that if you were interested in what they thought, you would have consulted them BEFORE surgery. Good luck, my dear!

TGIF! I still wake up a little sore and my pain meds take care of that. I am able to pick thing up off the floor today. It is amazing the things you can't do one day and can the next! I am starting to have an appetite but my liquid diet goes until next Wed. then I can have 2 TBS of pureed food 3 times a day. Hope all is well with you all!

I am a side sleeper too! I have been comfortable though with a few pillows behind me and one under my thighs (so I don't slip down). Then I have another under my left arm. Is most of your surgery on one side? Mine is on my left. I can get up and down much easier today. I am also back to my weight that I was on surgery day. Whew!

Melissa, that is good news. My pain is also better everyday, although I am always waking up to needing some pain meds. I can't believe you are already "out and about". I am not ready. I was on a ten day liquid diet before surgery, now I go 10 days after. On day 21, I can have pureed things. I think I battled the hungrys before surgery, because now I could care less about food. I am so proud of all of us! Does it feel surreal for you guys? My friend was my operating nurse and she said that my liver was perfect (because of the pre-op diet) and that I didn't have any fat around my organs. I am not sure if that is even possible. I carry it all in my tummy. I look like a pumpkin on stilts. Not for long though!

John, I am so glad that all went well for you! I feel better today than I did yesterday and am hoping that continues! My mom is still here to help with my kids, my 2 year old is a busy one! I did take a shower and that is nice. I have a pain that feels like I swollwed air down the wrong pipe and need to burp. I wonder if I had that before but couldn't tell because of the other pain, which is gone now. We did it!

P.S., I stood on the scale this morning and it said I was up 8 pounds since yesterday. I was on a liquid fast for ten days and didn't have anything but water yesterday... there is no way I gained that, RIGHT? Just the fluids and stuff they pumped into me?:mad2:

Yea!! So glad the surgery part is a thing of the past. I went in to surgery about 7:30 and was home by 10:30! I too can drink water and protien drinks without issue. Other than being VERY thirsty, I am not interested in food. I have too keep up with the pain meds though. Once I am up, I am up and once I am down, I am down. It is the transition between the two that is the most painful.
