  1. My husband and I grew up in two very different households when it came to food. Our relationships with food are very different. In his 40's, he's been on occasional diets but he's not that concerned with his weight. It is what it is. I grew up dieting from the age of 9/10. There are many days that I only eat maybe one meal a day. On the other hand, he wakes up hungry, wants to call and talk about dinner at 9am, calls at 1 to ask about what I had for lunch and reconfirm dinner plans, and wants to know when we are eating dinner before I can put my purse down most nights. Yesterday was Mother's Day and while I don't have to start my pre-op until June 1, I have started a pre pre-op diet for myself. He just couldn't understand that I didn't want to go out to eat. I relented and we went. The place served bread which I didn't touch, my husband and kids shared an appetizer that I couldn't/didn't have, then salads before our entrees came out. I made a smart aleck comment of "Thank you for letting me know how much I'm appreciated by bringing me to a restaurant to watch y'all eat." Yes, it was petty, but I don't know how to get him to understand that this is a permanent change for me and restaurants are not really something for the foreseeable future that I'm going to enjoy. Thanks for any advice.
  2. LabCorp will let you order tests on their website without paying a third party for the order. If it’s something they allow you to self order it maybe easier that way.
  3. I was ready to do this back in January and at that time the surgeon was scheduling into April. When I shared I was going down, my mom decided she wanted the procedure too. By the time she finished all of her diagnostic testing, we had been pushed back until June. It'll come; just have to play the hurry up and wait game.
  4. In the past on diets, I always lost well when I was eating within an hour of waking up and then every 3 hours after. I never ate more than about 100-120 calories for all but one of those times which would be a bigger serving of protein and vegetables and was around 300 calories. Roughly 800-900 calories. I lost a lot (120 pounds) eating like that; however, I regained once I went back to eating normally. I'm still pre-op, but my surgeon has given me the following criteria for once I return to normal foods: Calories: 700-900 Net Carbs: 30 or Less Protein: 70-90 grams Water/Fluid Intake: 64-80 oz. **Daily Goals will remain the same the first 12-18 months or until you reach your goal, then you will adjust it accordingly.
  5. I'm flying from Florida to Texas, but I did think about driving it, but knew I wouldn't feel like driving myself home after. You are allowed to bring someone with you that will just need to cover their meals while they are there. My husband is staying back with our kids so that wasn't an option for me. I would check SW as they fly from CVG to SAT. I'm flying in an extra day early and even that my ticket price was more that $100 difference in one day.
  6. I submitted my interest form online www.endobariatric.com/ and got a response within 24 hours. I then filled out my health form. After review, Dr. Alvarez approved me for surgery without further testing the following day. I received an email from Brandi with the dates that were available. I would have had my procedure last month, but I told my mom that I was doing it and she decided she wanted to as well. Due to her medical history, she needed some further testing that took sometime to get done with her PCP and a cardiologist. I know they are currently booking in July. So not a terrible wait.
  7. I'm using Dr. Alvarez with Endobariatric. I paid $7799 for my procedure. That price is all inclusive and includes: Transportation from and to San Antonio, TX to Piedras Negras, MX. 2 nights in their hotel (night before procedure and second night after procedure) Procedure and overnight hospital stay Hotel stay in San Antonio on day of return They have other services that you can choose to pay for like Spa Treatments.
  8. My mom and I are having the procedure done on the same day, and I was telling her the only thing I worry about is the gas pains. I had my gallbladder removed years ago and sure my stomach was sore, but my shoulder(s) were far worse.
  9. I personally don't like the powders and use the ready to drink shakes. I prefer Atkins Milk Chocolate Delight to just about anything else.
  10. I think I bounce between excited and nervous. Just truly ready for it to be here and done.
  11. I'm also in Florida, but having my procedure in Mexico. I hope your last pre-op appointment goes well and your are scheduled quickly!
  12. Medical charges are mostly nonsense. I'm a healthcare administrator and our charges are based on several factors, but are typically 2.5 - 3x the Medicare allowable; however, if I have a contract for higher than that (only ever worker's compensation), we will essentially round up the charge to the next whole hundred. So a procedure that we do everyday has a charge amount of $1600.00, but MCR reimburses us $299.37. By our standard the charge should be about $800; however, Florida Work Comp carriers reimburse $1593 for the procedure.
  13. I'm also from Florida and I'm being sleeved at the Endobariatric facility that the previous post mentioned on June 22. Dr. Alvarez is an amazing surgeon, and I would suggest checking out his Social Media pages as well as website. He's currently on vacation, but when he does procedures he shares on his Instagram Story pieces of each procedure. He does a maximum of five procedures a day 99% of the time. My cost for the procedure is $7799. Normal cash price is $7999, financed or credit card is $8499. If you have a friend join you, then you both get an additional $200 off which is why mine is $7799.
  14. I'm still in pre-op stage, but the guidelines for return to normal food that they've given me are: REGULAR FOODS | DAILY GOALS Calories: 700-900 Net Carbs: 30 or Less Protein: 70-90 grams Water/Fluid Intake: 64-80 oz.
  15. Congratulations! 13" and 32lbs gone in a month! How are you feeling?
  16. I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed.
  17. I’m having surgery on a Wednesday and plan to return the following Monday. I can work from home if necessary, but I intend to be back in the office. i will say that this is based on what my surgeon has said for my specific type of job, but also my experience with a previous abdominal surgery. I just have to remind myself that when I had my previous surgery I was 19 and now I’m double that.
  18. Have they given you a list of what you can have that isn’t eggs? Eggs are pretty versatile though and there are lots of ways to cook them, so hopefully you won’t get too bored.
  19. My husband has a CPAP and hasn’t worn it in about a year because it was a nuisance to keep clean and the on and off ten times a night when he gets up to use the restroom. I will say that it was very beneficial for the time he wore it. For both of us! He was waking up more rested as was I as he was no longer snoring!
  20. I'm self pay and doing my procedure in Mexico. The physician once approved had the coordinator send over all available dates. I would have been able to do this last month or this month at the time of my approval, but my mom decided she also wanted to do the procedure at the same time. Her clearance was more involved as she had to have an EKG which led to needing to see a cardiologist who said she was fine but wanted her to have an echo done to be certain. SO...after having months of delay, by the time we were both approved, the soonest available was June 15. My oldest daughter(14) happens to be out of town that week, so we pushed it back to the following week, so she could be around to help with the youngest(3) while I was out of the country.
  21. I am somewhat starting mine a month early. I'm not doing the full on full liquids until I have to, but I have swapped out two meals for protein shakes and am doing a dinner that is a meat and vegetables only. Right now I'm also having two snacks a day which are typically a low fat mozzarella cheese stick.
  22. My doctor will give 4 weeks off of work, but I'll have surgery on 6/22 and return to work on 6/27. I am primarily at my desk though. I just don't know how my 3 year old is going to handle not being picked up all the time. She's under my physician's guide of "no more than 30lbs in the first 30 days", but I'm not sure I'll feel up to carrying her up a flight of stairs at daycare.
  23. I have a 21 day pre-op that starts on June 1, but I'm using the month of May to get used to tracking foods again. Putting things on scales, looking at macros, all the fun stuff. I'm also starting to let go of the foods that I won't carry forward with me. I've had my last pasta meal, eaten my last ice cream, etc. I know people can still be successful with those items in their diets, but that's not my story. I recognize the addiction I have to carbs/sugars and it's all or nothing.
