How did you come up with your user name?
I also thought there would have been more replies, maybe i should have posted it somewhere else. So HH - what was the origin of yours?
-
What made you do it.
Thats a very sad and very traumatic story. I can fully understand how it made you decide to get the op. Well done on bringing up your younger sisters. I didn't have a trigger as such. I was just fed up with my weight going up and up.I also found that as I got older that diets weren't working - I just couldn't shift the weight anymore.

2 questions
I'm surprised that the nurse was surprised. There are lots of threads about burping etc and I think you will find that lots of us burp lots way past the 3 week mark. Some days I could be the burping queen!

Life is Good
HH and Restless - be careful - people are going to start talking! But I agree, I also think Restless is great. She gives good , well thought out, well balanced advice.

How did you come up with your user name?
User names - just wondering how you came up with yours. Some are fairly obvious but then others are really intriguing. If you are happy to share I would love to know how you chose yours. Mine is really boring. elcee = my first 2 initials L C for Lynn Christine.

severe bruising...
Maybe it was where the doc used his knee so that he could get better leverage to pull the tools back out! Only joking. I remember reading another post where someone said she was so bruised she was convinced she had fallen off the table. So what they really do when we're in surgery is anyones guess!

Life is Good
I'm only 2 months out so I'm still very new at this. But there were clothes in my wardrobe that previously I couldn't do up that are getting so lose they keep slipping down, and my work shirts which were horribly tight and restrictive are now comfortable.I love the fact that I am not constantly hungry. Previously when at home I would spend the day foraging for food - now I can happilly ignore the fridge.

This thread has nothing to do with the band!
If DH wants to see Aussie rules the best place is Melbourne, however I think Feb is off season. Grand final is in Sept and not being a fan I'm not sure when it starts again. The Great Ocean Rd is spectacular. The Penguin parade at Phillip Island. Lots of sport and culture in Melbourne itself. Grampians are good. Gippsland is stunning. Hanging Rock especially if you have seen the movie. Tasmania is beautiful. Sydney has the coat hanger and the opera House and lots more too I'm sure but i've only been there for a weekend.Still a newbie here and haven't been everywhere yet. Be aware Feb is one of our hottest months.Temps 40 deg C plus(you'll have to look up a conversion). Campervan should be easy to hire. HTH

Massages after LB - is it still OK
Just wondering if it is still OK to get a massage after being banded? I am talking about aromatherapy, hot stone etc etc - the kind you get at a beauty spa not the sexual kind. Thought I should clarify that just in case - I've seen the way some of these threads end up. LOL.:juggle: I am wondering if it would be uncomfortable or interfere with the port or anything like that. So if anyone has had one I would love to know what your experience was, how long you waited after banding etc. Thanks

Magda Szubanski - Australian Jenny Craig celebrity
Ok a bit of background for US and European members. Magda is the latest celebrity to appear in our Jenny Craig adverts. She is being touted as an amazing success and is all over magazines etc. She is between 153cm and 158cm tall depending on which site you go into. She started off at over 120kg and has now hit her goal weight of 85kg. I applaud her for the hard work she has done but cannot see why someone would have a goal that still makes them obese. If she is 153cm (the same height as me) then her BMI is now 36.3, if she is 158 it is 34. Both unhealthy by any standards. If this was just a step on her way to a healthy weight it would be great but according to everything I have read she has reached her GOAL!!!!! I think this sends out completely the wrong message. Also according to the magazines she is now a size 14 (which I think is the equivalent of a US 10,UK 12) . Yeah right, I started off at 74kg , 10kg less than Magda , and was struggling to get into size 18 shirts. Seems like some misleading advertising here.

Phrenic nerve pain to left shoulder blade
Sorry about the pain, I can't give advice on how to relieve it. However you say that you are making bad food choices when in pain. As you also say that you get this pain regularly why don't you try prempting it and have healthy food prepared ready? Maybe make breakfast the night before, cook a bit earlier than you normally would, have healthy Snacks at work in the fridge etc.At least then you should still be able to lose weight whilst your doc try's to figure out what the problem is. Good luck

those of you with ideal restriction
There's aother thread called "a day in your life with the band". Why don't you have a look as it has the same info. I would post a link for you but don't know how.

Water, Water everywhere but not a drop.....
I don't sip I drink the same as preband. I have noticed a difference though as sometimes I only drink half my mug of tea which for a teaholic is a huge change!

A day in your life with the band
Well depends on if its a work or non work day. Work days. Up at 6am. Cup of tea check emails etc. Have shower get dressed and then have breakfast. Either oats or egg on toast. Get to work sometimes have another cup of tea.I'm a trainer so am restricted to eating at specific break times which sometimes makes remembering fluids difficult. Break at 10am have a cup of tea or if I'm feeling hungry a cup of soup. Lunch noon either a tuna & salad wrap, leftovers or tinned tuna with crackers. Afternoon try to remember to drink crystal light whilst working.( Managed to source some on ebay and i love the stuff)! Finish work at 4pm and am normally starving. Sometimes I have a cup of soup, sometimes a couple of nuts or sometimes I wait till I get home and have a slice of ham/cheese.More tea (have you noticed i'm a teapot yet) Dinner anytime between 6.30 - 7.30. I eat whatever the rest of the family is eating but smaller quantities. Slowcooked meat and rice, spag bol, roast chicken and vegies whatever. Sometimes in the evening I get slightly hungry again so I might have a Nestle Diet mousse or yogurt and fruit. Oh and of course another cup of tea. Most days i don't manage to eat fruit although on my dieticians plan 2 serves per day are recommended. I also don't drink the serves of milk. Non work days the stuff I eat is similar but times are a lot more flexible. I am only 2 months postop and have only had 2 small fills so as I get further along I am sure this will all change and that I will be eating a lot less.

Reflux and the band
Would love to know the answer to this is My NUT told me that you can't have reflux after being banded but reading the many threads from people here with both I would have to say he's wrong!

The journey starts today
Good luck. The journey takes a while but it is so worth it. I am 2 months post op and so far have lost 12kg. Not a huge amount yet but more than I could have lost on my own.

JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery
All fine here. Had 2nd fill last week am upto 2.5ml in a 10ml band. Am feeling a bit of restriction but still get hungry especially between lunch and dinner. Weight seems to be sitting on a plateau at the moment so am hoping that will start to drop soon. Other than that, nothing to report!
-
Pasta anyone??
I eat pasta regularly and so far have not had any problems. I also eat wholewheat bread, rice etc.
-
hard candies and gum???
Actually its not only gas pains - too many can give you the runs. I remember going to movies years ago and buying a cup of SF candies instead of the regular ones.I really paid for it later that night, i was in total agony. These days they normally have a warning printed on them that says excessive consumption can result in a laxative effect. Believe me they are not kidding.

Is this what "Stuck" is?
Corn is listed as a food that may cause problems on the notes that I was given.

Banding out of the USA
I found the thread/s you mentioned and they do make for interesting reading. I did give up though after the first couple of pages as there were so many........... Which also means i don't know the eventual outcome. Nothing against HH but it is useful to look at previous posts from people especially when they appear to be an expert. I will agree with HH's advice usual advice though which is to research and make sure you pick the right WLS that will suit you. And WASA does seem to be an expert on researching Dr's and i have a feeling that she also used Dr Aceves.

Eating Before a Fill
I have to do liquids for the remainder of the day after the fill but have not been told not to eat beforehand

If band is around stomach why is restriction felt in throat?
Thanks for the responses. It can't have been a traffic jam as it was happening at the beginning of a meal. Bites were small but I'm now trying for smaller. Its weird - it feels as though the food is getting stuck in the oesophagus but I'm still struggling to understand the mechanics of why.If I was already full then yes it would make more sense.
