For me, the worst thing post-op was...

For me it wasn't so much the gas pain but the bloating from the gas. I left the hospital on June 5th looking 8 months pregnant! I never imagined going in for weight loss surgery and coming home looking like I had gained 40 lbs! Thank goodness the swelling and bloating went down after a few days at home.
  2. I started my pre-op liquid diet on Memorial Day and did well until today. I fought every urge to cheat and eat real food but some how I made it through the moment. That was until a few hours ago. I had a momement of weakness and went to Wendy's and got a kids meal and ate the whole thing. I am even more disappointed in myself because I knew that I was already at an increased risk for surgery problems because my liver is 3 times the normal size of someone my age and weight. I feel so helpless and I'm worried I am going to have trouble staying on the diet now because I couldn't make it 10 simple days on liquids only. Anyone go through a similiar momemt of weakness? I am prepared for harsh responses, heck I probably really need to hear them so that I don't fail like this again.

    Sex after Banding

What positions did you all find most comfortable during the healing process? My boyfriend is already anxious thinking he has to wait 2 weeks to get any. He's so scared he might hurt me or "unsnap my band" LOL I tried telling him that won't happen but he asked that I ask you all which would be a safe position?

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I forgot to mention, after figuring out the Atkin's meal shakes were pretty nasty I switched to sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast. I make it with light vanilla soy milk & I toss in some frozen bananas and a scoop of Beneprotein and blend it all together in my blender. Makes it seem more like a milkshake than a Meal Replacement shake and the vanilla soymilk seems to make the chocolate powder taste even better. I'd love any ideas for savory foods to eat while on liquids. I made cream of potato and cream of spinach soup but its only day 4 and I'm burned out on soup and cottage cheese. Any other suggestions?

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I am having the Realize Band. My doc lets the patient choose so I just flipped a coin for it because I couldn't decide on my own. I have to stay the night in the hospital (as a 23 hour observation patient) only because I have sleep apnea and my physician requires you stay if you have apnea. I haven't done much preparation at my house because I am staying at my mom's for 5 days post-op. My apartment is on the 2nd floor so I figured it would be easier to stay at her house since she only has 1 step to get in her front door. What kind of clothes are y'all taking to wear at the hospital? I am not really a pajama kinda girl so I thought about going to the mall this weekend to buy something. I'm up for any suggestions, anything has to be better than they giant bariatric gown I got put in during my EGD. You could have fit two of me in it, lol :crying:

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Ugh I started my pre-op diet yesterday and would kill for anything solid to eat right now. Smoothies, protein shakes, & sugar free popsicles just don't have the same zip as a grilled chicken breast and some rice . Anyone know at what point will I adjust to the liquids only? I've heard some people say 3 days but others have told me it was almost a week before they got used to it.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I saw my doc yesterday for my official pre-op and he kept telling me that I don't have to have the surgery if I don't want to. I kept telling him I wanted it more than anything and now today I woke up migraine free. I think that was his way of getting my mind in the right place so I'd stop being so anxious.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Is anyone else starting to get anxious for surgery? I don't mean anxious excited more like anxious mini panic attack? This will be my first major surgery and I'm kinda stressing myself out about it. I know I want surgery more than anything but I'm making myself sick over it all. I start my pre-op next monday and it seems like the closer I get to surgery the more stress-related conditions I seem to get. I'm seriously considering asking my doc tomorrow when I go in for my pre-op visit to prescribe me something to help me with all this anxiety.
  15. I begin my pre-op diet on the 25th and am trying to plan what I will drink so I can keep some variety. Since I don't want to drink pre-packaged shakes all day at work I thought about bringing smoothies with me to add Protein powder to but I am concerned that in the five hours between getting to work and going to lunch that the smoothie may deteriorate. Does anyone have an storage ideas? Is freezing and thawing an option? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

This is my first post, I've only been lurking on the site so far, so I thought I'd introduce myself to my fellow June Banders. My physician submitted my packet to Bluelincs of Oklahoma on Thursday at 11:30 and at 2:45 the same day I got my approval. My surgery date is June 4th at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. My surgeon is Dr. Russell Gornichec. I am getting very excited but also a little anxious as this will be my first surgery ever. I am currently 282 lbs with a BMI of 48. My physician has a 10 day pre-op liquid diet which I will begin on Memorial Day so I guess that means no BBQ for me. Oh and to make things even better my birthday is June 17th and I will still be on liquids only. My mom has said she will make me a birthday cake flavored protein shake though I'm thinking it won't be the same.
