  1. When I went to my appointment with the nutritionist, she gave me a booklet put together by my Dr that has been like a bible to me. It has my diet schedule for pre-op, example- Day 1-8, Clear Liquids...and a list of food I can have, and so on til I'm six weeks post-op and into my maintenance plan. I have been following it per Dr's instructions. At my 2 week follow-up appt. they gave me the literature that came with the band, along with some other stuff and the diet the Dr gave me is verbatim of the literature. My question is... the Dr's, I am assuming, are all trained to put the band in the same way at the same place, but why are the diets so different? I have read on here people saying their Dr said they can eat "regular" food their second week. My opinion... that's just setting them up for going back to their old habits of eating "regular" food. Just wondering if anyone had some opinions... thanks!
  2. Congratulations on getting your band!! Yes, everyone is different and Drs require different things. The main thing is to stay hydrated. I was on the clear liquids also for a week after, my menu had a little more to it-sugar free popsicles, clear broth, and Isopure, clear fruit juice to name a few, and i was required to sip about 6 ounces every hour. I have been on the mushy/pureed for about 3 weeks, its getting old,lol.. Then I can transition to a soft solid diet. Some people are instructed to start a solid diet right after the liquid, it just depends. But stay hydrated, and good luck with your Journey!
  3. I didnt even know i had one til my Upper GI, i think you need to have it repaired before the band or at the same time. My Dr did it while he placed the band. good luck!
  4. I would agree with RestlessMonkey, get a little food processor. They are great. You can have mashed potatoes, add a little Skim milk to thin them out, green-bean casserole-pick out the green Beans and puree them, I guess it depends on what is going to be served. Its been almost 4 weeks since Ive been banded and I can only eat a half to three quaters cup of food. You won't, or shouldn't, be able to eat much anyway. But I have to tell you also, i have been on puree for 2 1/2 weeks, and I went to a going away BBQ for my best friend's daughter going into the Navy. I knew there wouldn't be anything I could eat, it was the typical, Hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, coleslaw, etc. I just brought me some sugar free Jello and stood back in amazement on how much food these people loaded up on their plates! I thought to myself-that's what I used to do-:welldoneclap: and i was totally fine with my sugar free jello! Good Luck!
  5. Congratulations!! Good Luck. how come u havent drank anything??????
  6. I was banded March 11th. I lost 4 lbs pre op (i only had to do it for 5 days prior to surgery) and 21 since surgery. I'm on a pretty strict diet compared to a lot of folks. I have to wait til I'm 30 days out to introduce the reg food, I'm still on puree and soft food. The scale did stop when I started on the mushy. I didn't gain anything or lose anything for a week, but then i started walking and that has jump started me losing again. I can tolerate about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food, if i rest and get the hiccups, I know I'm full, hahaha. Good luck everyone!
  7. Everyone is rockin on this challenge, whoo hoo. Im down another pound....
  8. Good lUck to you! Maybe they can to a 2 for 1 surgery and get that gallstone out for you while they put your band in.. Keep us posted!!

  10. Hey there!! Looks like you had a good day! Maybe if you ate a little salad with your with your slimfast that will help you stay fuller til dinner. I have always been a snacker, but compared to alot of people on here I have a strict Dr, once Im on reg food, no Snacks, just 3 meals. so im trying to psyche myself up for the comming of snackless days, lol have a good day!! Breakfast-2 c FF Milk with a couple tablespooons of slimfast for taste Lunch---Protein shake with ff milk LOL guess what flavor it was?? lol Peanut Butter chocolate swirl.. ironic.. it was about 179 caleries with the milk and 22grms of Protein Dinner---1/4c each-Black Beans, grean peas, and ff refried beans before bed, about 1/2 c cranberry juice. oh yeah and i walked 2 miles, im getting alittle faster
  11. Want... dont beat yourself down, today is a new day and you are on the right track! Yesterday i had: Breakfast-yogurt mid morning-----2 cups of ff milk Lunch----3/4 c cream of chick soup-vegetarian of course, lol Dinner---1/4 c each of green peas, black Beans and black eyed peas or beans,, what ever they are called. It was all pureed, dosent that just sound wonderful, lol And i walked 2 miles. I am stil on pureed/soft food for another 2 weeks. I miss my Quasadia's from Chili's :seeya:
  12. Wow, I didnt get to have my "Last Supper"! The Dr called me on Thursday morning and said start your liquid diet TODAY, your surgery is next Weds. !! Bummer,,, but I survived with out my Quasadias from Chili's and im still cruizing along. Good luck everyone!!
  13. Mine was really fast, thank god, first appt was Feb 6, and all the rest (psych, nutritionist) the following week and surgery March 11th. I had my seminar back in Nov, but put the surgery off till after my son came home from Iraq, i was a nervous wreck. :seeya: Good Luck!!
  14. Sip on a Jello shot instead...
  15. Try going to Tickerfactory.com and put in your password. Scroll down alittle to where your current weight is listed and put in your new weight, the hit "next". That should update it for you. Good luck and nice weight loss.
  16. Finally!! the mighty scale has moved...-2:thumbup:
  17. oh NOoo,,,,Better drink it all while you can, you're not supposed to have carbonated drinks after you are banded. I WAS a diet coke freak, but after being banded, i don't even miss it. Ive heard the horror stories from people drinking carbonated drinks and it isn't pretty. Causes major bloating and gas, and its not good for the new pouch. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted!!:seeya:
  18. Your welcome! Yeah, becoming a Vegan takes A LOT of changes, not only in what you eat, but products you use..leather in your shoes, clothes, etc., lotions and soaps, it would be too hard for me. I get the Vegetarian Times Magazine, its really good and has a lot of recipes that are easy to do with not-so-exotic food. I'm not a tofu eater, are you?? I don't like the soy milk all the time, if its flavored ill drink it on occasion. Rice cheese doesn't even sound attractive, lol yeah gross I looked up that quinoa on line, I'm gonna check it out in the health food store to see if they have it here before i order it on-line. When I can start eating a little more solid, I would like to have some Pasta. I know, the carbs, but I gave up bread, so I'm dying for some pasta, lol. I wanted to ask you why you were giving up the wheat products??
  19. Good gurl!! You will be the one losing weight while everyone else is eating those little candy bars from hell!!
  20. Hi there, well I was just banded, but I'd like to jump in on this thread to get some ideas of what others eat. I'm in the mushy stage, but you can still can get side tracked on that. I added a fitness ticker to keep track of my walking. That gives me some motivation to see the little "icon" running towards the 100 mile mark, lol. What is your calorie-intake-for-a-day goal?
  21. Hey everyone!! Well.. I was doing good post op and lost 5 for the challenge, but now im stuck since i started eating the mushy. BUT.. I have started back walking and hopefully that will kickstart me again. Good Luck everyone!:cool2:
  22. I had one of my smaller incisions come open, it had a little bit of discharge but it dryed up in 3 days. I would definitly call your Dr. back.
  23. Hi there, I am a vegetarian and was banded on 3/11/09. I guess you need to decide how "vegetarian" you want to be. Some people eat just chicken or fish and no other meat. Some choose to eat dairy, and some use the soy products for their dairy. I don't eat any meat whatso ever, but Ill use skim milk and egg beaters. When I can eat solid food, Ill use the soy burgers (Boca Burgers or Veggie Burgers) and different legumes for my protein. I would recommend reading up on it as much as possible. There is a book available in the public library's called " Vegetarian Book for Dummies" its a really good book and has lots of information, it was one of the best books I read when I made the transition.
  24. For me, I'm going for the weight goal. I work at a major corporation that has a "Health Stat" program at work and we are monitored for free. I have had two major work ups and the only thing that has come back negative is my body mass index-thank goodness no high BP or Cholesterol. Technically my weight should be about 130, but realistically Ive set a goal of 140-150.
  25. I was told the first week on liquids to sip about 6ounces every hour. But I would be on the phone with your Dr., these are things they should of educated you on before your surgery. Good Luck in your Journey!:tongue_smilie:
