Well today I started the 14 day liquid diet and it really starts to hit you how real the whole process has become.....I've been doing a modified protein diet over the last week so this shouldn't be too bad.

  3. Started my 14 day liquid diet today. Have been doing a modified program over the last week ( a Protein drink for Breakfast and two for lunch with fruit, then a nice dinner) so hopefully this shouldn't be too bad.......... Once you are on the " liquid diet" the whole process becomes real.......... GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE MAYO BANDITOS !
  4. Hi Ann.... My pre-op diet starts next Monday but I started a modified version today. One shake for Breakfast with a banana, two for lunch, an afternoon apple and a nice/ reasonable dinner. Thanks for the shout out..........
  5. Ann - My Doc is allowing me to have a banana with my protein drink in the am. Helps satisfy me. Maybe your doc will allow same if you like bananas??
  6. Hi Amy - Are you allowed squash ?? My wife takes squash, peppers, mushrooms, garlic and green peppers and slices them very thin. Places the mix in a roasting pan, adds a little Water and places it in the outdoor grill and roasts them......DELICIOUS........If you can have any and all of the ingredients, you may enjoy it.......
  7. NOW I WAIT............ All pre-certification requirements have been completed. My Doctor is filing all documents to Aetna today. I should hear from them by Friday. ( I hope). Getting a jump on the pre-op diet. A Protein shake for breakfast and two for lunch followed by a nice dinner....Monday, I start the pre-op liquid diet, 7-8 protein drinks a day until surgery. LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN...........:crying:
  8. AMY - Keep up the good work........two down, two to go ! I can't believe we're almost @ May 1st.......The Mayo BANDitos will Celebrate for the entire month..........
  9. Boo - I'm also doing the 3 month program. YES - it must be supervised by your PCP, Nutrionist and exercise therapist or trainer. I just finished seeing my PCP, Personal Trainer, Psych & Nutrionist once for 3 months. I had to keep a daily log of all exercise and a daily log of all food that I have consumed. All have written a report after each visit. Monday I see my Surgeon to go over all paperwork and then they'll file everything with Aetna on Tueday. To me, the 3 month program is worth it but it's a real pain in the ****. Documentation is the key........GOOD LUCK:thumbup:
  10. Hey Everyone, If you go on Youtube and search for "Lap Band Surgery - Kansas", you'll be able to watch a complete LB surgery with Dr. Malley of Kansas City. I didn't know what to expect but let me tell you ....WE CAN DO THIS.....The procedure took 45 minutes, no blood, no gore. The Doctor explained every step of the surgery which was very calming....( for me ).
  11. Welcome and congrats.......You are now an official Mayo Banditos:biggrin:
  12. I like where this is going..... My pre-op diet starts on 4/27/09 and will consist of 6-7 Protein drinks ( Choc Fudge).....Why not add a little BAILEYS...once in a while especially on Cinco de Mayo......
  13. First of all - CONGRATS on your surgery and new life style....I can't wait. What causes all the gas pain ? The anesthesia ??
  14. Devil on one shoulder...LapBand on the other.....LapBand will win the day. What's good about the lapband is that it's so difficult to "over eat" as you'll bring it up. I'm told you do that once or twice, you'll never over eat again as the pain and feeling is terrible. I think the brain will get the message that we're full early on so we can control that feeling to over eat. Remember - WE WILL SUCCEED.........
  15. TXAmy and Hallelujah - You both are so right......... To me anxious is good. That means I wrestled with my decision and am committed to succeeding, therefore anxious to get the surgery done so I can move on, lose weight and live a long healthy life. Just got back from my PCP, gave blood for my labs, so I should have my medical clearance by Friday. I see the Nutrionist @ the surgeon's office next Monday and then they file with Aetna for approval. My new Motto - Eat to live not Live to eat..........
  16. Hi Chris - For my Psych - I went to Dr. Huberman. He's on 40th between Park and Lex...212-692-9285. For my Nutritionist, I used the staff @ NYU that are assosicated with my Surgeon, Dr Fielding. Hope this helps
  17. THAT IS SO COOL.......................:thumbup::tt2: THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WORK ON IT.........
  18. Welcome fellow Mayo BANDitos.......... We're there for you..........
  19. I thought it would good for all of us to add our surgery dates to the calender so we all can keep track of each other and offer any and all support. I just added mine - May 11th, 2009
  20. Congrats Don.............. It is truly a start of a journey.........I think it will be a great journey for all of us.
  21. These look great.......... We do need a signature banner........... I like the middle one you did........Can we add a sumbrero to it?? That would be cool........ I'll look around as well.
  22. Ann - CONGRATS.........:glare: Look forward sharing the journey with you and all the other Mayo Banditos............
  23. Hi Amy.... You can do it....One day at a time. My Doctor wants me on a 14 day liquid diet. I am going to drink 2 Protein drinks for Breakfast, lunch & dinner. I am allowed up to 7 drinks in a day. I tried them already and it tastes pretty good. ( Choc fudge). It's called AdvantEdge. 110 calories with 17 grams of protein per drink. I actually feel full after drinking two of them SLOWLY. ( which was difficult since I want to chug it down).
  24. I agree....eating without taking a sip of liquid will be difficult. I also love to chug my water. As a fellow Mayo Banditos pointed out, finishing a meal with some sort of "wet" food can help. I do envision myself going into the bathroom and rinsing out my mouth. Hopefully , that will help as well. We're in it for life....so we can do it. Might seem weird at first, but we can do it.!!!
  25. Laya - CONGRATS........I agree....LIVE GOOD FOR LIFE......Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
