  1. Hi all! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. It sounds like most of us are on track. What a difference a few days makes. Last week I finally realized what the great thing is about this band. I wasn't thinking about food and wasn't hungry. I would eat my three meals and it was awesome. I didn't lose anymore but I didn't gain and the feeling of not thinking about food was so great and very foreign as well. This week different story I am hungry and I have no restriction so I can still eat just about anything. I have been staying in the lower calories plus watching my protein. I have my Dr appt tomorrow so hoping for a fill/adjustment. I had to have 4 cc's of fluid removed that they left in at surgery in order to recover so now looking forward to starting adding it back. I will post tomorrow to see how it goes.
  2. Hi, Just a quick note to say hello and happy to hear everyone is doing well. Marsmom I haven't had a fill yet but I have had them unfill me and it wasn't that bad at all. It is amazing that I had such a rough start but things have been getting better. The last three days I haven't had that hungry feeling hardly at all. I have to make my self eat even though I don't feel the hunger. I hope this is the feeling everyone has been talking about. If so, I am going to love my band. The other thing still keeping me in check is that if I eat to much or drink to much or maybe it is eating to fast I get the major shoulder pain in my left shoulder. It is an immediate negative feedback so I have been trying very hard to watch all of those things. I think tonight was to much Water after working in the yard. I must have sipped to fast or took much. It sucks when you are really thirsty and you can't just kick back the water.. Oh well. I will get used to it.
  3. Hello all, It so good to read how everyone is progressing. I was banded on the 23rd of April and so I am going into my fourth week post op. I have tried eating some chicken now with some mushie refried beans and it seemed to go ok. I am still getting pain in my left shoulder after I eat so I think I need to cut down on how much I am eating or drinking but I am running at less then 800 calories a day so not sure how much I can cut out. Another challenge has now been my sugar levels. They are all over the place. I have always had high sugars running in mid 200s and up. They are down lower now closer to mid 100's but there are still times where they are over 200. Then they drop down to under 100 and it is so confusing what to do. I am going to talk to my primary doctor this week and see what she thinks. It is all good though as they are getting lower which was my whole reason for this surgery and weight loss. Way to go everyone.. steady slow wins the race right!

Bandster Hell for the April Bunnies

Hello all! I was banded on April 23rd and have had a hard time the last few weeks. At first I was so hungry but it didn't matter because physically I couldn't eat to much. They left 4cc's of Fluid in my band and that plus the swelling was to much for my body. I was in a lot of pain by end of week 1. I am now in week 3 and as of yesterday all of the fluid is out of my band so no restriction at all. It seems to have helped me a lot. Even though I get full on about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of broth or mushies I have found I have to slow down my eating even though I thought I was eating slow. Plus, drinking a lot of Water via small sips. My DR said to keep a bottle with me at all times and just sip on it. I found the Special K Protein water which isn't to bad and is thin enough. I think it's Fiber and protein are helping me between the meals. I was also doing Protein shakes but even those I had a hard time with. I could drink them but then had a lot of pain afterwards. I know we will get through this together and I have a feeling I am now going to be entering bandster hell.

    April Bandster Bunnies

Thank you all for the good thoughts. Today was better and knock on wood it will continue to do so. Probably because I finally decided to take off from work. Oh well what can you do. I don't care as long as I continue to get better. This is a process and it is harder then anyone can explain. Thank god for this forum as only those going through it can really understand. Funny thing my significant other has lost 8lbs since my surgery.. he says it is simpathy weight loss.

    April Bandster Bunnies

I was banded on April 23rd and it is great to read how well everyone is doing. I am not so lucky. I have had problems after about 1 week post op. I started feeling bad pain in my left shoulder which is the referred pain. I went to the Dr and apparently they left about 4 cc of fluid in my band after the surgery. It is common to do this but I asked if they were going to leave fluid in the band and they said no. Well I guess not because it was in there! So everything was very tight. They took out 2 cc and I felt instant relief. However, a day later I was having pain no matter what I ate or if I ate. I handled that for another week trying to figure out what to eat to make the pain go away. I also started getting the reflux stuff and the first nausea I had experienced since the surgery. Plus, I now couldn't sleep on my side which I found interesting since so many posts talked about this being an issue after the surgery. It was like after they took the 2 cc's out I was in post-op week one all over again. Now I am post op 2 weeks and 3 days and I went back to the Dr today and they took out the other 2 cc's. I hope it helps. I am now taking 2 weeks off from work and hoping that will help me get onto the next phase of real food.. or mushies at least. So here's to hopin I get to the next phase.. I know it will happen it just takes time. Good luck to everyone!
  7. You make me feel like a bum as I haven't been walking that kind of distance at all. I have a hard enough time just making it to work.
  8. Hi - I am two weeks post op and still having this about 1/2 to an hour after I eat. It doesn't seem to matter if I eat mushie food or my protein shake it causes the pain. It really gets to me and I am frustrated that it won't go away. I have read here some great explanations and given me some hope and feeling I am not alone. But does anyone else have this happen when they eat? Thanks,
  9. I so know how you feel Me3! I am post op day 5 and just had another tearful episode. I wish it would just magically change but guess not! I am fighting the hungry growl of my stomach and seeing other people eat (my family). I feel like I could eat anything but know I can't because I eat the diet of the semi-liquid stuff like yogurt and pudding etc and I get full fast but it still sucks and I am very emotional so don't feel alone. I am happy I am not alone it this too.. Thanks everyone for support!
  10. Hi revren, I went through True Results and the surgeon is Dr. Nirmal. Not sure I am spelling it right but I had it done at the Tempe New Day Surgery Center. Hope it all goes well for you.. stay in touch since we are in the same place we could really be good support! Tera
  11. HI, I am 4 days post op and my stomach growls but as soon as I eat a little it goes away. I have been sticking with the liquids but it is really hard to not eat when everyone around you is! I feel your frustration. Betty thanks for the post about even if you doesn't mean you should.. education is the key to helping understand all the reasons behind the why we are liquidville.. I pureed up some cream of chicken soup and some chicken broth with a few of the veggies from the chicken soup and it was warm and had taste which is great. I felt like I was eating something. Good luck and hang in!
  12. Hi, I had my band the same day as you. My throat is still sore from the tube and the back pain is from the gas. Gas x strips help a lot plus my dr said to take the pain meds and don't try to be brave. I know on day 2 I felt this way and couldn't sleep and was just uncomfortable most of the day. I tried a heating pad on medium on my back. It didn't take the pain away but I feel asleep and slept hard. Good luck to you... also to move the gas pain walk walk and walk some more and then walk more at least that is what they say. I started really passing it more on day 3 and today day 4. Does your stomach growl? I think it is the gas as I am not really hungry everytime it does that. Go figure.. good luck and I feel your pain! Thanks, Tera

    April Bandster Bunnies

Hello April Bandster Bunnies! I had my surgery on April 23rd. It went very well I rolled into surgery at 6:30am and they were talking to my family at 7:15.. and I was home by 9am. I couldn't believe how fast it went. Plus, I was very aware of stuff and could walk around very easily not like when I had my gallbladder out laproscopically. The gas pain was the worst.. and then the port pain kind of kicked in. I was able to do the liquid Hydrocodone for paid pretty regularly the first day but by the second day I was trying to just use liquid tylenol to take the edge off. I think the big key was walking it seem to help move the gas around. I couldn't believe how tired I was on Day 3. I slept a lot! Today is day 4 and doing good. It was great to now have protein shakes and yogurt stuff. The clear liquids for two days really sucked though. My stomach growls but I can't eat more then maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup. It is great! However I am already looking forward to mushie food so I have more options. So far so good! Hope everyone is doing well. Tera

    April Bandster Bunnies

Hi all, I am going to be banded on the 23rd and it is great to read through all of your experiences to help me through some of the questions and nervousness. I am going to go get protein shakes etc tomorrow. It sounds like the Isopure stuff at GNC is a good idea along with some sort of protein shot or shake to break things up. It is great to hear you all doing so well. I am diabetic and take metformin extended release.. does anyone have suggestions on this since it is such a huge pill I am sure I will have to do something about that one.. It sounds like walking a lot helps too.. Thanks! Tera

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Hi, I am wondering how to get hooked into the support groups. I live in Richmond and could really use the support as I have no friends or family here. I just moved here in July. I have 4lbs more to lose before I can make the CM appt. I need to start the exercise but have been doing ok on the 1200 cal diet. Any information much appreciated! Tera

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Hello everyone, Thank you so much for all the posts and updates on the appts with case managers etc. I was at 210 at my surgeon appt last week. He has my goal weight at 200. He said I had to be at the 200 before I make the case manager appointment. When I weighted in the morning at home I was at 206. I think I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can get an appointment on the books. I am not sure they will do it or not but I guess it can't hurt to try. I also just got my stationary bike put together so I am going to be on that this week. Hopefully it will help me with losing a little faster. Exercise is another step in the process right! Thanks all, Tera Plus I agree carbs are the hardest to deal with.

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Hi all, I just had my surgeon appt with Dr Im yesterday. He seems like a great guy. I only have 10lbs more to lose to get to surgery weight. He said I couldn't call to get a case manager appt until I was at the goal weight. My concern is how far out are the case manager appointments? I know it will take me a month or little more to lose the 10lbs but then will I have to wait another month to get the appoint with case manager? Any ideas or thoughts? Has anyone heard how far out case manager appointments are being booked? I am going to start the 1200 calorie diet as it seems to have some good results for others. I hope I can lose the weight in a reasonable time and my body doesn't try to be stubborn. I look forward to your feedback. Thanks, Tera

New to Diabetes and Lap Band

Hi all! I just saw my surgeon yesterday. I am excited to read that you are seeing the results of the medications being reduced. I am on 2000mg of glucophage, 3 shots of 10units of novolog at meals and 55 units of lantus at night. I am really hoping this will help me get off some of these meds. I have to lose 10lbs before I can make the next appoint with the case manager but then I should be on my way. Great info. Thanks, Tera

    New Hopeful Bander

Hi There, I have a meeting with my Surgeon Dr Im tomorrow. I guess we will see what happens then. I hope it won't take to long to get my appt with a case manager. I will let you know what I find out tomorrow. Very Excited! Tera
  22. Hello, My name is Tera and I am currently living in Richmond, CA and have an appointment with my Kaiser Surgeon next week on the 14th. I have struggled with weight all of my life. I am a diabetic and I am really hoping to help both of these issues with this new tool Lap band. I have heard good things and I think it would help me a lot. Has anyone have information on how it has effected their diabetes? I am type 2. My current treatment includes a few oral medications and a few injectables insulin. I am very excited to find this site. I am new to Cali and have not a lot of family or friends here. I am looking for new friends especially those who want to try being supportive and wants to exercise and eat healthier etc. Look forward to meeting everyone! Thanks,
  23. I love your list. I share some of the same. We can do this.
