  1. Can anyone who is Tri-Care prime members post your knowledge and experience of having surgery done by a civilian doctor and facility and those who have had surgery done at a military hospital facility. I am in the plannning stages now and would like to compare my options. Also my husband is retiring in March and was curious to know how my benefits would be affected financially with Tri-Care prime. LOL, Kim
  2. You look great! I am truly inspired ! I am going for it. My band was April 2nd, this year.

    1 day post op -nauseous

hi, I am so in tune to what you are sharing. I had my surgery on Thursday , so not very long. The first day home. I tried sipping on some broth and I had the most violent regurgitation! The funny thing is instead of it coming out of my mouth, a gush of Water was released. What I mean is yes, I urinated on myself.:welldoneclap: It was quite scarry! I also had massive heart burn. My doc corrected a hiatal hernia, so i am guessing that is why i had the burning in my chest. I too am burping alot. It seems like sometimes it gets stuck. I just thought it was the trap gas from the surgery. I am sure we all will get through this and it will get better.

    Scar pain

sleeping on your stomach? Is that better? Tell me more. I have the same issue. There is one area that is more sensite than the rest. I had my surgery on April 2nd. QUOTE=RestlessMonkey;1191103]Yes ask your doc but it sounds to me like an adhesion? That's one reason I started out sleeping on my stomach etc..I didn't want adhesions to form. Let us know what your doc says!

    Tricare Prime and Lap Band

Hi, I have just been approved through tri-care prime. I started my quest back in December, I tried going through the naval hospital. Unfortunately the wait list was quite long, in addition they were losing 2 surgeons. Nonetheless, I was number 197 and currently they are on number 135. I at the same time, looked into surgery through a civilian doctor. I received referrels from my pcm and two other specialty doctors with the Navy. Tri-care approved me for the surgery out in the civilian sector! The wait process i thought would be two to three weeks< IT WASN't one week and now I am on my way. Good luck to you!
  9. Sure does! My date is set for April 2nd ! I am so excited! It is happening so quickly! Good luck and God's bless to you!
  10. Lil Miss Diva!

How have you been? Sorry I have been out of touch. I am finally approved and will be banded if God agrees on April 2nd! I am looking forward to it but anticipating a bit. Did you stay over night for your procedure? I will be an outpatient. I think it s great that the procedure is considered minimal but i think i would prefer being in the hospital just one ngiht.

  11. Hi! What are your questions?

  12. Thanks Army wife! your son is adorable! I finally have a surgery date! This Thursday begins my journey!

  13. Hi! It's been a while sorry for the delay in being in touch! I have been approved and have a surgery date! It is Thursday, April 2nd! It seem like it was taking forever and then all of a sudden, it happened! I am a little bit anxious, i didnt sleep alot last night. I just keep going over the procedure and trying to rehearse in my mind for what is to come. I guess, I am trying to be mentally prepared for everything. I have one question, for those of you who are banded, has anyone had acid reflux prior to surgery and if so has it worsen for you with the band?

  14. try www.myvirtualmodel.com, this should bring you to the home page where you can create your own model.

    I agree! Amazing!
  17. thanks so much for the info. I too am assigned to Ft. Eustis and have a referral to Portsmouth NH. I heard that the waiting list was pretty long. I am scheduled to do thier orientation this week. I have also done orientation with the weight loss surgery center in newport news. I am hoping the wait isnt as long. At any rate, I will take the time that I need to meditate and prepare for my new life. Blessings to you as it sounds like you are a bit ahead. Thanks again.
  18. Hey Diva! Well the latest info I have is that I am waiting to get approved. I had my psy eval, psy testing, and now i have to get checked out by the Pulmologist and cardiologists because over the holidays I got sick with pneumonia. So as soon as they clear me, then i will move on to getting scheduled for srgery! I hope all goes by quickly. I am really looking forward to being banded! Thanks for the pep talk. I hope all is going well with you! :)

  19. Hey Angela,

i am in Virgina, on the peninsula and in the planning process as well. i am waiting an appointment for Portsmouth barriatrics. I am assuming because of the holidays they have not contacted me yet. However i have also been to the weightloss surgery center in newport news. Here is thier website through Sentara Hospital in Hampton, and Va. Bch. it is www.weightlosssurgerycenter.com, check out the website, they have seminars all the time and will walk you through the process. :)

  20. Hi Everyone, This is actually the first phase in my journey to gettting the lap band surgery. I looked into the surgery about a year ago, last April in 2007. My health insurance did not cover the lap band and along with my primary care doctor felt like the bypass was too drastic in my approach for help. I prayed about it and asked God for guidance and that if it was in his will for me that TriCare would cover it within the next year. Well the surgery was on my heart and mind again and found out that it was covered! You see, for a long time I was in denial that I had allowed my weight to get out of control. I had always battled with my weight but had been able to lose it to a comfortable size I had accepted. The smallest I have ever been is a size 11/12 in high school and about a couple of years after that. After having my 2nd child, I was up to a size 18, lost a few and went down to a 16. Over the years, I went back and forth between 16 and 18 even after my 3rd child. I always thought a size 18 was my absoulute maximum size and that I could settle for that and go no higher. Usually, I would always bounce back, motivate myself and get back on the yo-yo nightmare. Well in attempts to do better, I tried so many fad diets, research diets, hynosis, adipex medication, b-12 shots, you name it. Only to gain more and more weight , and the short reach of rock bottom I am in today. I have gotten so tired of dieting, so tired of exercise, fasting, with little results that I have no energy to continue on the roller coaster ride. Here I am today as of my first consultation 2 weeks ago, 288 pounds at 37 years old, and 5'7 inches. My husband and kids are on board and feel alot more comfortable with the lap band surgery. I have to admit. I am a bit anxious, I want it now, but my mind and heart is scared to death wondering if I really will be able to enjoy life as I knew it with my family. I am a good cook, enjoy good food. My culture of course contributes to alot of this. I am natively from Louisiana. I have never learned how to cook my favorite dishes the healthy way, as if there is no other way. I also have found MYSELF FEELING LIKE I NEED TO EAT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT THAT FANCIES ME, LIKE A SINGLE PERSON SEWING WILD OATS BEFORE GETTING MARRIED. I KNOW THIS IS A LIFE CHANING EVENT. IT IS SOMETHING TO COMIT TO THE REST OF MY LIFE, IT IS THE BEST THING THAT I COULD DO FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY, BUT AFRAID TO LEAVE THIS LIFE BEHIND. HAS ANYONE FELT LIKE THIS BEFORE THIER SURGERY OR AM I ALONE? THANKS FOR ALL THOSE OUT THERE, WHO WENT TOOK THE TIME TO READ MY POST. I KNOW IT WAS A LONG ONE. SINCERELY, HEALTHTY ME 2!
