  1. I really like Dr. Hoxworth. He's very professional and competent. He's serious about his surgeries. Don't let the serious part turn you off, he's also very caring. If you follow his instructions, you will be successful. I owe a lot to him for the success I am having. Great man, great surgeon.

Hi Everyone, Sorry I've been so silent. I have had a lot going on. In June I had a fill in the doctor's office and that took me to 7cc. I was not able to keep the water down so he took out 1 cc which took me to 6.cc total. The problems started that very night. I had to sleep on two pillows so that I would not wake up choking on my on saliva. During the day I averaged throwing up at least twice a day. Then after two weeks of this I started getting really bad heartburn that would awaken me in the night. To make a long story short they removed all the saline and let my stomach rest for two weeks. Now I have only 5 cc. I feel no restriction, but I am really trying to watch what I eat. My next fill is August 9th. So far I've lost 43 lbs since our "banddate". Wish it were more, but its better than no weight loss at all. Thanks for checking up on me! This is like a real sisterhood/brotherhood thing we've got going here. I really grateful for all of you.:crying: Bernadette you are a JEWEL!!!

Fab by 50, I feel your pain. I experienced the same thing with PB. I've only had one fill (May 6th) and I am stuck in another way--I haven't lost anymore weight. One of my problems was that I was eating around 800 calories. My nutritionist insist on 1000-1200 so I'm at a standstill. Anyone else at a standstill??
  5. Hi Everyone, Just had my first fill on Wednesday. Initially I could tell I had a little restriction when I drank the water at the Doctor's office. It felt like water going down the drain in the bathtub. Today is Friday and I really can't tell that I have had a fill. The Dr. said the band already had 3ccs in it before the fill. He put 2 ccs more for a total of 5ccs. My biggest problem according to the nutritionist is that I am not eating enough. I use Daily Plate and Calorie King (can't decide which one I like the best) to track my calories and carbs. My calorie intake has been around 800 a day. I am not losing, so she told me to bump my calories to 1000-1200. I can't figure out how I can eat that much. Anyone eating 1000-1200? How do you do it?
  6. My mother just had her second knee surgery in 12 months. It's an amazing surgery. Good luck! We are all blessed to be living in a time where medicine can assist in ways we never thought were possible.

Julia, I find it fascinating that you only have two incisions. Is this a new type of lap band surgery? Most of us have 5-6 incisions.

Hi Julia, I was banded on the 16th and I don't have my first fill until May 6th. You and others who have had r first fill r fortunate. I've lost almost 28lbs since preop and banding, but I am so hungry most of the time --just like I was pre-band. Glad to have you with us. This is trully a good group of people striving to reach our goals and dreams.
  9. All of you are soooo motivational. I get my first fill on May 6th. I think EXPECT and BELIEVE are great motto's for us. This process has been so interesting. I think the best thing I have found that works for me is eating on a small plate. I have had only one setback so far. Now that the swelling has gone down and several weeks have past since my surgery on March 16th, there is a lot less restriction. I had one really bad day when I binged on Friday and felt no restriction. That was scary. I had a long talk with myself and came to the forum for inspiration and tried not to kick myself. I'm really glad I had the surgery. I will take one day at a time and aim towards winning. You folks are GREAT!!!!

Fab by 50, Yes the Dr said it would be five weeks. I've been reading in the general March forum and it looks like a lot of us are in what is called "bandster hell"-- waiting for our first fill. I have not lost anything in a week. All I have reintroduced is meat, applesauce, and cheese. The nutritionist asked me to dip my meat in some type of sauce since you can't drink Water while eating. Don't over do it on the moving. Take care of yourself!!

Well, we made it through our second week!! LOL I worked Monday and Tuesday of this week, but took the rest of the week off due to low energy level, severe shoulder pain and fuzzy thinking. I had my post op appt. and my first fill is scheduled for five weeks from now. My nutrition appt is Thurs. April 2nd- still on liquids and creamy Soups. I needed some real Protein so a made the deviled egg recipe in the book " Eating Well after Weightloss Surgery" on page 33. Still having a problem with not being able to burp. (Anyone else have that problem?) All is well, and I hope we all continue to be successful. Good to be among you fellow 16thers.

Hi everyone, Sorry I have been MIA. Had to get my energy up. Today was my first day back to work since surgery on the 16th. It also was my first day driving. I only made it a half a day. :rolleyes2: I got the worse gas pain in my shoulder:mad:--which probably means I need to walk. I'm sleeping on my side and stomach now, although can't sleep to long on the stomach. This surgery will be a great tool, but it is not a "piece of cake" as some of our more judgmental naysayers think. My biggest challenges right now are getting in my Water and exercising. I feel good in general, still tender and sore, but not to bad. Keep up the good work all you 16thers!!!!!!

My doctor suggested milk of magnesia for the constipation. You may want to chek with yours and see if this is ok.
  17. ikerry, I was banded on Monday too. I'm having problems getting the protein drinks, water and crystal light down. If feels like it wants to come up. This is a little scary for me. I hope this goes away.

Hi Everyone, I'm scheduled for the 16th too! - Greensboro NC, Dr. Hoxworth. I started the modified fast diet from nutritionist on Wednesday of this week. I've already lost 8 lbs in three days. It consist of a shake for breakfast; 3oz lean meat, 2 cups salad greens and 1/2 cup vegetables with fat free dressing-- that's lunch; a shake for snack at 4:00; dinner same as lunch and a shake for snack 3 hours after dinner. I'm finding it hard to get it all in. Anyway, good luck to all of you lucky losers. We '09 March bandsters will have some great stories to tell
