  1. The mental aspect is every bit as important as the physical. I remember years ago hearing some anorexic starlet (I think it was Heather Locklear) say, "I don't care how good it is. As soon as I start to feel full I stop eating." I had some not so kind thoughts for her! But now, I totally get it!
  2. It is. This is the first time since college that my boobs stuck out further than my belly! LOL!
  3. Sinus drainage is normal. I always know when I've eaten too much when my noise starts running.
  4. Excessive vomiting, excessive overeating and carbonated beverages.
  5. Drive to Sarnia and cross over to Port Huron. Dr. Bhesania, who happens to be Canadian also, is awesome. He's been doing Lapband since about 2002 and has done about 2000 of them.
  6. Its been about twenty pounds per size for me although I did totally skip over a couple sizes.
  7. It's normal to be a little nervous before surgery but, compared to the 2 C-Sections I had, lap band was a cake walk! Relax, Ladies. It will be fine!
  8. My doctor said a pre op diet was not necessary. When I asked if liver shrinkage would make it easier on him he said no. I did, however; take it upon myself to diet anyway for the week or so leading to surgery and lost 15 pounds.
  9. Get some liquid Emetrol. It's cherry flavored and worked like a charm for me.
  10. You just started solid foods. That's why you had the gain. I gained 5 pounds that week. Don't worry. Your body is adjusting to all the changes you're putting it through. The weight lose will pick back up in a couple weeks. You might want to avoid the scale until then. I know it can be very frustrating!
  11. I couldn't agree more. Your post made me wonder just how far Australia is from me so I plugged your town and mine into Google Maps. It was over 15,000 miles but the funny thing was it gave me driving directions to the west coast and then said kayak across the Pacific Ocean! TOO FUNNY!!!!
  12. Thank-you, but don't be so sure. I have had my days! LOL! That's great. Staying young is so important. Age really is just a number. I work in geriatrics (not to say that you're geriatric) and can tell you first hand that staying active and keeping a positive mental attitude is key to a long healthy life. I've had patients in their 90's still going strong and others in their 60's ready for the grave. As for myself, at 48 and 324 pounds I felt like I was in my 60's. Now, 3 years later, I'm 51 and 176 pounds and think I'm 35! Good luck to you, my friend. I'm sure you'll do great! Keep us posted.
  13. That's great, Yolanda. Glad it went well. Welcome to the journey!
  14. Mine is on the left just below my ribcage.
  15. You're having surgery at 74 years old? I think that is awesome. Good for you and good luck!
  16. Wow, that's great. You might want to revisit your patient profile. It says that your starting weight was 298. I'm guessing you aren't down to 88 lbs. It also says your out of pocket was a million dollars! Anyway, good job! BTW, I was banded in June, '08. Down 148!
  17. HOLY MOLY, LOOK AT YOU!!! Awesome job! You must feel wonderful. I'm not from Australia....probably about as far away as you can get!
  18. I have always found Thanksgiving to be the biggest cause of winter weight gain. Lets eat like pigs and then the next day start getting ready for Christmas with shopping, decorating, BAKING and getting ready to pig out some more. I found a cure for that since surgery. Since I live on the border, I spend the day in Canada. It's not Thanksgiving there. That way I don't start the holiday season off on an overstuffed gut! I've made it through the last 3 years without holiday weight gain.
  19. Because she hasn't been exercising a day or a week. She's been doing it for months. Strength training will indeed build muscle mass over time. If you knew as much about the way the human body works as you think you do, I doubt that you would have reached the point of needing WLS at such a young age.
  20. Yea, NJ! Restriction is a beautiful thing! Bon Voyage!!!
  21. I agree with TKW. That's just too much work. I say go with the 'Fro!
  22. Definitely feel the port. The more weight I lose, the more I feel it. But know, I don't feel the band.
