Shrinkin' Vi's Bandiversary Blow-Out Planning Post #1: Who Wants to Come?
Count on it Pamela---I would normally fly out of Albuquerque but can work with going out of Denver too if we can connect in one of the 2. I would really like that, not a big fan of landing somewhere where I know NO ONE!!! I mean being lost together would be much better than lost alone! And as for being an axe murderer---they won't let me take my axe on the plane.........dang rules. This is going to be so much fun! So Ms. Organizer (aka Michelle) what else is going on in that area, fill us in on some things to do, besides yack a mile a minute without typos!!! Kat

What's in a Name
Geneva, I like the reasoning!!! I often hear names in real life, especially between couples that make you wonder!!! My DH refers to me as "Woman" so much, and his family HATES it! But years ago when we were 22 years old, and felt like children still a man he worked with ask him if I was his "woman" we both found it incredibly hilarious at the time, I was a girl not a woman---good grief, but he began jokingly calling me that, and it is to my ears the same as if he were to lovingly call me Sweetheart or something. When I came so close to losing him this last year, that was one thing I prayed for, just to hear him call me "Woman" one more time.....I bet you feel the same about being a little Wombat!! Kat

Just an Update
It would be my guess that by the middle of your second trimester this will just be a memory. I think I slept away all of my first trimesters!!! Better than puking them away IMHO!!!!! Hang in there!!! You have the double whammy---no 2 bands act just alike, and can be finicky, and no 2 pregnant women act alike, and can be even more finisky!!! But you WILL survive it!!! Kat

Come Backs to Weight Loss Questions
I can see hat the point was bringing up sex at work- with all the sexual harrassment being brought to light, but in it's own way bringing attention to your body through weight loss, is the same thing. I believe your comeback was appropriate, and if anything else was said, I would discuss it with the bosses boss!!! I would imagine you successfully let those around you know it is not a subject open for discussion though! My problem is I usually think of the right thing to say after the right time to say it is long gone!!! You were much quicker than I ever could have been!!! I look forward to seeing what kind of responses you get on this thread! Kat

Another NSV! Oy vey! I love NSV!
What an excellent NSV!!!! One many would have likely not noticed---this is your life changing on a daily basis---I love it!!! And I also love hearing about how loving and supportive your family was with it.....that is an added bonus, that is sweeter even than the Milk Duds!!! You are doing great----keep the NSV's coming!!! Should I have to
If it had not been for the pictures, and the "proof" of how well the band works, I may not have pursued it and decided it was for me. I totally believe they should be there for us to gain hope from. One of my posts may have contributed to you thinking I was wanting it gone---that is totally not true. I have a ticker in mine---no pictures, but I am not computer literate enough to put pictures up without help, there is no way I could get them in my signature!!!! Signatures, like threads, like anything else in here, if you don't want to look at it---don't---move on. For many of us, the visuals are inspiration at its finest. I voted to keep things the way they are. Kat

Self Pay Troubles
I have heard this with anesthesiology before, that they will include the actual persons fee, but not the products used, or use of the equipment, because they never know what you will or will not need done during a surgery. Did you have any kind of written receipt or anything---maybe speak with your surgeon.... (sorry, my keyboard is on the fritz and I have no question mark!!) Good Luck---and I agree, if they would not deal with me, I would be VERY vocal, and alert anyone and everyone possible of the business practices they are accepting. I am known for telling business' like that it is a small world and I have a big mouth and intend on using it. I have written letters to the editor of local papers---stick to the honest facts, and there is little they can do. Wish I could help---I hate being taken advantage of!! Kat

Thanks so much for the ???????????????? TracyK, but copy & paste everytime I want a ???????????????? is going to be a PITA......But I like that now I can click paste and have a whole buncha ????????????????'s I feel blessed....and we all knew I didn't know everything anyway!!! Awwww Terry, I wanted to get riled up at something besides my outlaws!!! LOL I am in overdrive with them anyway, all the family is due in this weekend, so to prepare for THEM....WE are supposed to work overtime for his Mom, and as for me...It ain't happenin'!!! Maybe it is because I am not feeling 100%, but man I am grouchy as heck with them! It is cold here this morning. It is about 20 out, and our high is not quite 50 today----brrrrr. Got the fire going though and it is a nice toasty 75 or more in here now! It is necessary for it to be warm, my Princess is walking around in a tutu and high heels!! OMG she is sucha girly girl! I told my friends on another thread, she is 2 years old and likes her nails painted, and her clothes pink---her Mama has fun in front of her! I remember her Mama sitting in front of the mirror at 5 and crying because her Doggy ears (in her hair!!) were not even---one looked higher than the other! And she was a lot less girly than this one! She could be fun! Rick wants me to go to a friend of his from work, and look at some Boxer puppies today. I don't want to! If I look I will want one, and I really want a little border collie cross of some sort......hmmmmmmm Well, I am going to go get the keyboard fixed today----so I don't have to rely on y'all for my ????????????????'s ....although believe me, I do appreciate them!!! I am off to eat something for breakfast, will check in with you girls in awhile. Hugs~ Kat

NJ October Thread
Good Morning-- Betty, I actually think that IS part of the problem. I think Rick is a combination of 2 things....being sooooo glad he is healthy again, he overdoes it, and also trying to show everyone he is not still weakened etc. so he goes overboard. That does not have any effect on how they expect him to do things. His siblings will discuss with his parents how they will do something and not tell him so he doesn't try to get involved---this summer for instance---he had the ablation on his heart, and the other kids made arrangements to get the hay baled and bucked, and no one was supposed to tell Rick they were doing it. So what happens (lack of question mark is irritating me!!)---his MOM calls him on his work cell phone and tells him that she and his Dad are getting it done, it will likely take them a month, but he is not to worry. Can anyone say Martyr---!! So of course he is stressing, so we went out, and he drove, and I bucked bales with his Dad. His Mom tries to make it sound like it is his Dad needing all the help, and while it is his Dad that has always done the work, it is her that manipulates people and words, to get the things done she wants done. Then she cries to everyone how worried she is about him---all the while she is working him into the ground. But it is very hard to tell your parents no----there is a time between adolesence and where we are, that it is not such a big deal. But if he doesn't go out and help--it leaves an 80 year old man tottering around the farm, doing it in slow motion. His Mom constantly tells us when we have to do things---"he really needs to quit raising cows, and alfalfa, but the day he quits is the day he'll die." Which irritates me to no end!!! So of course he won't quit, he keeps working it---piddling all day, and Rick comes in and picks up the slack, as well as our son who lives out there, and works a LOT for his grandparents. I wish it were different, but it isn't, and I don't see it getting better, so I guess, I better accept it, and not let it work me up so. We are going to have a battle with his siblings this weekend when they all come for the 80th birthday. They want to buy the folks a big screen TV for Christmas. We wanted them to help bring wood in, we suggested each child buybring a cord of wood, but they all prefer Rick to take care of that!!! They want to spend way beyond our allotted budget to buy the TV. But then they get the TV in the box, and they are done! Leaving us with getting it in the house, the old one with the entertainment center out of the house, and setting the new one up, and figuring out where to put her DVD player etc, because the entertainment center no longer works. I intend on voicing these opinions this weekend. I am truly going to be the BLACK sheep when it is all said and done!!! Gee see how much that bothers me!!! Today I am going to make myself go buy the keyboard! It is so cold though! It is about 20 out right now---cold! Only supposed to make 50 today. I am not ready for winter! OK Betty, Cindy, Beannie---- it looks like we will be leaving here the morning of November 1st (provided I am able---depending on my results tomorrow) to head to Texas. We will be there for a week. The pecan trees are loaded we are told---so will be a back breaking week!!! But I am in much better shape to do it this year than I was 2 years ago! Last year the pecans didn't do real well, we have actually had a few slow years, so hoping this year does well. Well kinda hoping, it is a lot of work!!! My Kinsey is here in full Princess dress up already!! Tutu and high heels! She is such a girlie girl! Her Mama could never make up her mind whether she was girly or tomboy. She actually had to be rescued by Grandpa out of the apple tree she climbed up, because she refused to let go of her Cabbage Patch baby! Not so with this one, she is going to be girlie through and through I think! She is 2 and likes her nails painted, and her clothes pink!! Well, she is finished with her waffle, so I better go clean up the syrup face!!! Thanks again for the safe place to vent!! Kat

Lap-Band Failure Rates
Sorry you had such a poor time with your band Scout. I am one of the lucky ones who does eat whole foods, and drinks whole milk(can't stand the watery blue skim stuff!), I also prefer real butter, to the low fat margarines...with my band in place, and helping me to limit how much I eat of pretty much everything! The only thing that has given me real problems were a glazed donut (like I really needed it!!!) and a piece of popcorn chicken that I slipped into old habits with, and did not chew well enough. I continue to eat the chicken...and to do my best to avoid the donuts!!! I do not believe there is any one answer to everyone. The band is working for me, and has for many before me. It has also obviously failed for some. Most medical interventions are that way---a certain medication will work for some and not others. I wish you luck on finding what works for you. Hope your new avenue is the right one for you. Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Hi my friends!! Still being a know it all----still have no question mark!!! Terry if you had ask me a half an hour ago was I irritated with the inlaws, I would have laughed and said yeah usually----but since you are asking me now---the answer is a resounding, very, VERY loud HELL YES I AM PISSED!!! Rick called me, and they are having trouble with water leaks in one of the crappy mobile homes they rent out, and guess who gets called to fix it---yep Rick. They can't call a plumber---oh heck no! THEY choose to rent these crappy little things, I think it makes them slumlords---THEY choose what low lifes to rent to, but do they do any work when something breaks....nope, they call Rick. And they know it makes me madder than hell, so they don't call the house for him in these cases, they call his work cell phone, and avoid me completely. I am furious! I just told you all his brother was here, from Denver, will they ever ask him to help with anything---nope.....just Rick. Now if my MIL wants to shop she calls his sister, but that is the limit of her contributions. They actually want him to think about re roofing their house---they have a large home---and roofing is NOT fun and easy---we have done our own home years ago, and when it needs done again, we will hire it done! I really feel like if they understand it is a sore spot between Rick and I, they need to back off, they do not need to deal with renters anymore. They are terrible landlords---they think what the renters do is their business....and they are vocal, one day someone is going to take offense, and my FIL is going to get hurt, probably because of something my MIL says!!!! So anyway----yes I am furious with them, they are on all my lists, and have stomped and wallered my very last nerve today!!! Oh and BTW---thanks for asking----I needed to vent!!! As for the sleeping issue, it is this thing growing in my throat that is my problem, it is not being unable to go to sleep, it is finding a position, that it does not cut off my air supply. I cannot lay on my back at all. I have to lean forward towards my stomach and yet be on my side---or it blocks my air supply, it has gotten so large. It is now visible from the outside. It is not a huge knot like some goiters you used to see on people, but it is just above the soft hollow in your throat, mine is huge swollen. It would fill the palm of your hand. So if I lay wrong, then I wake myself up gasping! I have fears of not waking up at all! I was going to go with my DD to take the girls to the Pumpkin Patch---they have a hayride out into the field, where they have games, and face painting, and they get to watch a pumpkin catapult, and go through a corn maze, and use hay to stuff and make a scarecrow for the field....and then they get to pick out a pumpkin before they get on the wagon for the hay ride back to the barn. I was not looking forward to it, simply because I don't feel good. Then Ryan (bf) got off in time to go, so she called to tell me he was going to join us, and I begged off, told them to go as a family and enjoy!!! Gina I love being able to see you now!!! Wooohooo, a new car, lucky you!!! I keep thinking about it, but am currently enjoying the lack of a car payment!!! I am glad you finally got food!! Can you imagine how you would have eaten before the band---after having gone for so long with no food (insert question mark here) Judy, enjoy your day with your family---sounds nice. It is not a nice day here, we have a storm blowing in. It is probably 50---and windy. Manda said the girls were wearing long sleeves, and little jogging sets with hooded jackets, so thier hair is not blowing in their faces all day. Our crew must be having a busy weekend---they are all conspicuously absent!!! Will check in later girls---hugs to all of ya!!! Kat

NJ October Thread
Hi-- Feeling more human today, the throat is not so sore, I got up and did my work before I allowed myself to even look at the computer!!! But I can now say my LR carpet is freshly shampooed! Looks so much better! We have family coming in next week for my FIL's 80th birthday, and I was ashamed of how many spots there were on the carpet, never again will we go so light with a carpet. DH keeps mentioning hardwood floors, and I fight it. I grew up with natural hard wood, maybe the new laminates would be better, but I like my carpet!!! Betty, glad you are feeling better. I just saw an ad in one of the flyers in the paper, and they now make Immodium in the strips, like the listerine strips, or the Gas X strips....I know I don't have enough restriction to be unable to swallow the small pills, but thought it was a nice addition to things bandsters in general can now have to use as needed. Have fun at your festival Eileen! DH and I are likely going to be battling!!! His parents want to rent out these POS places, and be slum lords---I swear---they just don't think they are that bad. Well things break ALL the time, so guess who they call. THEY get the rent, THEY choose the renters.....and Rick gets to deal with them. It pisses me off more than I can even say. Those people are getting on my list more and more lately!! I wanted him to go with me to get the correct keyboard, so I can type normally again....but they will not quit calling. They know it pisses me off, so they won't call the house, they call his work cell phone to avoid me. Now if they are smart enough to figure that out, they need to get smart enough to get rid of the rat trap rentals!!! We have 2 out there, fully restored, and rented without issue...they are enough work, without the extra they always add. Now his brother was here for a day last week----will they ever ask him to do anything Oh hell no!!! He is visiting! AAArrrgghh!!!! Sorry guys---it just infuriates me, and I just found out, so I am seriously steamed. Rick knows it too....I do understand I am putting him in the middle, and shouldn't do that. It is his parents, and he hates doing it too, but feels like he should or if his Dad gets hurt, he will feel bad....oh well, it will not change until they are gone....and I am not wishing that, I just wish they were different and had some consideration for their only kid who does anything for them. I am going to go so I quit my bitching!!! Thanks for listening guys!!! Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
And you missed a quiet day too Jennifer!!! I don't feel terrible, just crummy!! My throat hurts, and I just kind of feel like I have a virus of some sort, without the fever...I ache, feel exhausted, sore throat, neck is stiff, swallowing is difficult....but I think it is getting better. Hard to tell, I don't usually eat in the evening after supper. I am having heart burn, something I seldom do---that used to be reserved for over eating, something I can't do now!! How long has your online travel agency been in the plans---(I do know a question mark goes here....but that is one of the things I cannot do until I replace the keyboard, and I wimped out on another shopping trip...til then I improvise by going all over the keyboard, but there is only one question mark and mine does not work!!!) I am going to have to take a lesson from some of dh's family---and act like I know everything, so I won't have to ask questions---then I won't need the damn question mark!!! I see you only have 5 pounds to make your goal---wooohooo!!! Well, I am going to try to lay down and sleep---I believe a good 70% of my problem is likely sleep deprivation. Something is going to have to be done regardless of my pathology reports....even in the wonderful event it be benign, it is still interfering in my life seriously! I through the years have become quite accustomed to eating and sleeping! will check in with you all in the morning....good to see you around again Ms........Jennifer!!! Kat

NJ October Thread
LOL Pat, believe me your mentioning it is not the first time I have had that thought!!! We went and looked, and bought a keyboard, then it is a USB plug, and ultimately not what I wanted....so going to go get this one exchanged tomorrow! And yes, DH was there, adding his opinion....he is such a man though, if it costs more it must be better!!! I can work around everything on this one except the question mark....so I am just going to have to be a know it all, and ask no question....just have all the answers!!! I just did not feel good today, the swelling is making swallowing difficult. I know without a doubt I am headed for some sort of treatment, whatever it is, I cannot sleep on my back without the weight of it cutting off my air, and now it is interfering with my swallowing. I really think that is just connected to the swelling, at least I am hoping... I had cold sweats all day. I don't know what to relate to it, and what to just call a crummy day---I am so ready to have some answers. I have been dreaming about horrors now, so that doesn't help! Hell usually sleep is my escape! Anyone wanna come help me shampoo carpet tomorrow....oops...need that damn question mark!!! LOL How exciting for you---signgirl---forgive me, but another name, escapes me, if I knew it, I have lost it.....I suffer from early onset Oldtimers disease. I woke up wondering what I did, I was so groggy, but within an hour I was just totally psyched that my liver had not been too big, and I was banded, and was going to have a way to lose some weight. It is very normal to have some nerve issues though!! OK, I need to go brush out my hair, I just got out of the shower, and I need to cut Ricks hair so he can get in the shower, will check in with y'all later!!! Kat

I'm still without a working keyboard, or at least a correctly working keyboard....I was going to go to town, but was hurting, and feeling crummy, so waited. Cooked some chicken, and now doing nothing.....you are right Laura, it is waaaay quiet in here!! Will check in later....sorry DH is being grumpy........Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
good morning violets......all seems to be well here with me this morning, massive sore throat, expected that, and some nice coloration on my neck, looks like I really made rick mad111 OK anybody see my mistakes in that last 'paragraph' (also notice total lack of a question mark) I have lost an entire lower section on my keyboard, I have no shift, or enter or question mark, nor can I do the old ctrl-alt-delete from that side. My directional arrow keys are dead. I was the only on on here yesterday, nothing was spilled or roughoused...they just quit.....so I am off to buy a new keyboard. I love my new computer but the first monitor gave me crap, I got a red line right down the right third of the screen---and it is a huge 19 or 20 inch screen...so the red line seemed enourmous, and now the keyboard....also the right hand side.....maybe my computer is a disatisfied lefty1 oops no exclamation on that shift key.....ay yai yai---I cannot type like this..........I guess it is time to ditch the jammies and go shopping. Rick wants me to meet him to shop for new gutters for the house, I am so excited.....NOT. I will check in with all of you when I get back............I would so much prefer to lay around and do nothing today, but at least we are supposed to get up to 70 again today--yea! see ya in awhile girlios................Kat

NJ October Thread
Hi girls, doing pretty good here this morning, my computer not so well, well not my computer, just a few keys on my keyboard died....I have no enter key and it makes doing much of anything difficult, it also dropped the number keypad. I am not computer savvy enough to try to figure it out, when I can go buy one fairly cheap, so intend on doing just that in a little bit, when I can convince myself to ditch the jammies for real clothes. One of my problems without it, is I cannot change lines...between it, and the limitations the board has on it's scrolling...my whole post will be run on11 Oh yeah, no caps on that side, make that-!! I will never remember, it is easier to replace it. I will check in when I get back and can type. Loved the pics Mandy, good luck with the job interview. sherry I see you on the same time I am, miss chatting with you girl......see you all when I can type....((((hugs))))) Kat

You will learn to rely heavily on this site, for information and support, from a great group of people! Look around read up, and do lots of research, the lap band is not a magic wand, but it makes weight loss, and the maintenance of weight loss, a much more doable task!!! Good Luck in your decision making process---feel free to hang out and ask questions as you learn. Welcome to LBT!!! Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
I'm home, it's over....let the bruising begin!!! I am actually already turning blue!! And get this...my recovery orders...include ice cream!! Ok....I know there are better for me cold things I could have....but am sitting here with a bowl anyway...and it DOES feel good! The glands after the piercing swell, so it is like a massive sore throat----and it is hurting. So will try a small amount of ice cream to cool it and soothe it quickly, then change to ice cold tea. He explained the swallowing of a cold solid such as the ice cream work the muscles and glands both, and ease the pain AND the swelling. So...ice cream it is...low fat 1/2 the sugar, and I still feel guilty!!! Terry, I have decided I just need you to talk for me!!! You said what I was trying to say so well!!! To Tracy I mean. Pamela---I will be working on whatever it takes to "clear" my name. For this yes...but for any travel---I cannot get a passport as it stands right now!!! Plus as Rick pointed out, I am not getting younger (smart ass that he is!) and if ever I plan to draw any SS---it might be a wise thing to have my true and given name on my legal documents! I applied for and got my SS card just before my 16th birthday so I could go to work, and buy a car, and I applied for it under Kathy, I have always went by that or Kat. To me, Kat is my nickname, Kathy IS my name!!! Kathleen is something I only got called when I was in SERIOUS trouble or in my 4th grade Sunday School class!!! So I may see about sitting in the MVD and talking to them about changing the name and see if it pulls anything up, and if it does, then we will go the whole 9 yards, and hyphenate the last name. Surely then that will end it! I never realized my last name was so common, but an email I received said it is the 9th most common name in the US, and there are over 1600 with my first and last name!!! Well I am going to post this before another person shows up at my door...kids have been here, parents, brother...all since I began this post!!! Gonna lie down for awhile..... (((((hugs)))) Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Tracy I am so happy for you!!! Somewhere, deep inside it hurt him, and he knew it was the right thing to do, I am sure much of it was from a financial standpoint, but the way I see it, not all of it was, or he would have signed and got out, not humiliated himself by taking the time to read it twice. I am not just playing Devil's advocate here, I am thinking that with that bit of a decency buried deep in there, that you can and have been nourishing the love in your son--so he did not have 1 good parent vs. 1 evil, you both had good---his was just buried, and it took him a looooooooong time to find it---and I am eternally grateful he did. This way when your son gets older and asks questions, you can be honest with him, and tell him it was something his birth Father knew was right, but it hurt him severely to do it, and your son will not feel like a cast off, who meant nothing. I also think it was a GOOD thing the gf did not show up, he may have done an about face! We have all discussed how it is easier to be mad for a man than to hurt, he may have tried to Show her! It all worked out the way it was supposed to, the best way possible for your little guy, and I could not be happier for you---I TRULY believe as emotional as it was, it is best the way it ended. Congratulations to you and the NEW Daddy!!! Stomach feels some better, now it is simply nerves. I think it was a bug of some sort, riding and moving did nothing but make me hurt worse! I was so bloated, I could not bend over!!!! And while I know this will be TMI---I smelled so bad, I could not even stand myself!!!! TracyK, Kinsey gets the same way some days it is non stop I want, and I need. To the point, that often when I would sit down she would say "I need to potty" I would tell her "Of course you do, I sat down!" To where now she will even tell you after telling me she needs a drink or whatever, she will say "course I do!" Made me feel so ashamed, I am working hard not to say it!!! Rick has me all upset......he pointed out to me, that chances are, the only way I will be allowed to fly into DC is if they don't have issue with me under the name of Kathleen. Other wise I will flag up when I attempt to fly, especially into there. I am seriously thinking of legally changing my name and hyphenating it, with my maiden name, just because of this. Surely that would take a HUGE chance of it being duplicated down. I WILL be taking care of this one way or another this winter! I refuse to not be allowed to go meet you guys, because some woman died in Tennessee!!! It isn't funny, but it makes me laugh it is so dumb!!! Well, I have to get off here, and get ready to go....I am a nervous wreck! I don't know why....I won't know anything---they will give me drugs, numb me up and poke me a few times....oh kinda like a fill without the drugs, and without restriction!!!! Don't worry about me, I never know how I am going to react to the drugs they give me. Sometimes I cannot function, and am out and sleeping like a baby for hours---other times they overdo it I think and I am wired shortly thereafter!!! If I sleep with this one, I will check in as soon as I check back into the living!!! Sure helps to know all of you will be there with me today!!! Hugs and love to all! Kat

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Hi girls, Sitting here moaning and groaning. My side hurts soooo bad! It is my stomach---but I am not stuck, I do not have any chest pain, other than I cannot breath deep without the side hurting. I keep thinking maybe gas??? I dunno! We went to dinner with Ricks folks, and his brother who was in town from Denver, and our son and his family. I ate a few nachos, but just breathing was difficult! I drank a lot of tea. Then even tried a few sips of DH's diet soda, to see if I could burp and ease it...no dice. I have no problem drinking, I am not stuck....it actually feels below my band....but it hurts like hell! I cannot sit...I am kinda slouching!!! Possibly, probably stress..... Going to go ride my elliptical for a bit and see if the movement helps or hurts...what the heck??? BB in a few! Kat
