I first started considering weight loss surgery about five years ago, but the Center in my town I was going through abruptly closed their doors. Due to life circumstances I wasn't ready to approach surgery as an option until the fall of 2023, at that point having seen multiple friends go through their own surgeries. I went through the Northwest Arkansas Mercy location, and Dr. Perna in Rogers, AR on Horsebarn Road was the one who did my surgery. I was initially scheduled to have a Gastric Bypass, but after doing a lot of research decided to go with the SADI/s-Loop surgery. This surgery is essentially a Bariatric Sleeve with the addition of a shortening of the intestine, both done at the same time for me as my 'virgin' weight loss surgery. I had my surgery on August 5th after a one week liquid diet. My surgeon's follow up instructions were another two weeks of liquid diet, then two weeks of purees, and finally two weeks of mechanical soft foods (able to be easily cut with a plastic fork).
