  2. Hello,

My name is Anjie. We had surgery very close in time. My surgery date was Sept 23, 08. I am anxious to hear your story and hopefully we can share information. I really need a friend who understands and can give me advice. I have lost 48lbs and I expected it to be more but I know everyone is different.

    Tell me about yourself.

    Thanks,

    Anjie

  4. Hello,

My name is Anjie. I thought I would write to you since it sounds like we might have some similar thoughts.

I had my surgery on 9/23/08 and I have lost about 48 pounds. I also have a hard time with exercising and keeping food down, cravings etc.

Please let me know more about you and hopefully we can push each other along!

I look forward to hearing from you.

  5. Hi! I had my surgery on Sept. 23rd and I also have gas problems. My doctor told me that everyone is different and it is normal to have gas. I have extreme shoulder pain and that is from gas. I told the doctor about the pain and he again said that everyone is different and it will go away. So I am waiting. In the meantime, what helps me is to drink a lot of Water and I can take Tylenol for the pain.
  6. I just wanted to say that you give me so much courage! I had my surgery recently on the 23rd of Sept. Your pictures are amazing!! If you have time will you please drop me a line. I would love to know what your eating and what you were eating when you were in the beginning stages.

    Take Care,

    Anjie (Ladybug1972)

  7. Hi there..So nice to hear from you!!

I am doing well. Thanks for asking. I had my first follow up appt. last week but the doc. said that I will not get a fill for another 4 weeks after I start eating regular foods. So currently I am eating the mushy foods. I still eat a lot of soups!! But at least I can have beans, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, etc. Have you tried anything like that? My doc. likes me to push protein also but he also talked to me about fiber to get my digestive system working.

Please give me any advice!!! I am very, very pleased...I have lost 20 pounds since Sept. 23rd!!!!

I can't wait to hear more from you.

    Take Care,

    Anjie

    Help

Hi!! The first two days were difficult. I am not going to lie, it was painful for me. Painful in the sense of just having surgery, I think that is normal. Although everyone's pain tolerance is different. The worst part was not being able to drink for so long after surgery so be prepared for that. Then my first drink, hours later, was the yucky, yucky barium. Now just a week later I am all most back to normal. I notice that I get tired easily so don't push yourself. I also have horrible gas that rises into my shoulder. It is extremely uncomfortable but it passes. I am just trying to be positive overall, looking down the road to be healthy is very exciting!! I have already lost 13 pounds! As far as straining the soups...it is very easy. I have used both a metal strainer that looks like a net for soups with smaller bits. The soups like minestrone and potatoe or broccoli I have used just a regular small colander/strainer. It has been best for me to first heat the Soup then drain it. A friend of mine made me homemade potatoe soup that was delicious and she blended the soup! I hope that helps!! Anjie
  9. Hi Debbie! How are you feeling? What is your progress? How are you doing with the liquid stage of the diet...what are you eating? Overall I am doing pretty well. I wanted to check in with you and let you know I am thinking of you!

    Best Wishes.

    Help

Hi there! I had my surgery last week on the 23rd. It has been difficult but I feel in my heart that I have made the right decision. I am already down 13 pounds and that is very rewarding. The best liquid I have found is Carnation Instant Breakfast. I am not a milk drinker, have never liked milk but this is actually really good. My nutritionist recommeded it...good Protein. After surgery the docs want you to get a good amount of protein. The nice thing is they come in different flavors and I really like the chocolate. I mix it and then I blend it with ice and I really enjoy it and it really fills me up! But overall I live on Soups right now. Try different soups daily and you will soon find some that you really like. I am currently on broths or creamed soups as long as they are strained. I really like the creamy potatoe and broccoli cheese. At my large grocery store they have fresh soups made and they are really good. I know how you feel!!! Best wishes.. Anjie:smile:

    Recipies and Meal ideas

A good recipe for someone like me that is just on liquids only (surgery was on the 23rd of Sept.) is Carnation Instant Breakfast. My nutristionist recommended it also. I use that with milk and add some ice and blend in blender. It actually is really yummy and I don't even like milk. It comes in Chocolate!! I love to have and read recipes so this is a great idea! Thanks, Anjie
  14. Hello! I had my surgery on Sept. 23rd and overall I am doing fine besides this horrible cough!! I've been told that sometimes when you are intibated/ventilated? it causes the throat to be sore but I never thought I would cough this much. I can't stop!! Then after much coughing it starts to hurt my stomach because it is still sore. Also what about gas pains in your shoulder? Only on my left side I am having serious pains. From my shoulder to my waist, mainly the shoulder. When should I expect this to go away? By the way....I have never smoked!! Thanks, Anjie
  15. Hi there. Just checking in to see how you are feeling. I am doing pretty well. Hungry sometimes but overall I don't dare want to complain. Have a great week, hope your weekend was nice.

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Hello All! I am very happy to be a part of this group. So far I have gained so much information!! I am very thankful. I had my surgery on Sept. 23rd. I started my journey weighing exactly 300lbs. As of today I weigh 287 so I am excited to be down 13 pounds already. (but I have not been able to figure out how to make my ticker work) I had a rough go on my first day. I was extremely sore, I have many incisions (5) and the barium drink was HORRIBLE! But I am very thankful I stuck it out and have been positive and can't wait for my new healthy life. My goal is to all around be healthier. I have two teenagers that I want to ride rollacoasters with! I want to not have to ask for a seat belt extender when I ride in the airplane. I take so much medicine that I want to get rid of. I want to loose my sleep machine!! I could go on and on.... Thanks for listening!! Anjie from Northern California:tongue:
  17. hi JUKU, just wondering if i can ask you how to help me fix my profile?

    EffexorXR 150mg

I also was taking the Effexor XR 250mg (large red capsule). My surgeon suggested that I have it a smaller size and he asked me to contact my primary care physician. He first put me on two Effexor pills to try and I could not get them down. They were horrible and burnt my tounge so my doc. then switched me to an Effexor capsule that are a lot smaller than my original pill. They are like the size of a baby aspirin. I just had my surgery on 9/23 and I started taking my Effexor the very next day. So far no problems!! Thank goodness. I take a lot of medication because I have a seizure disorder and there was great concern that I would need to smash them into applesauce but I have not had to do it! It just takes me alot longer to get all my medication down. I used to fill my hand and swallow them no problem. Now I take them one at a time and even take a break if needed and then go back to taking the rest. Best Wishes! Anjie

Good Luck to you and please keep us posted! I will be thinking of you! I am also nervous and excited, my surgery is Tuesday, Sept 23rd!! I also had a hysterectomy in 2001 and that was difficult so I hope this will be not as painful. Take Care!!!!! Anjie

    Anyone else feel like this?

I really agree with you all! My surgery is just in a few days...Sept. 23 I am super excited but also really nervous. I can't stop thinking about it, almost like an obsession. Then I wonder if I am doing everything correctly! I wonder about the protein shakes and how much I should really be drinking. My doc. recommends 2-3 protein shakes but I have a hard time getting down one!! So I totally know what you mean, I feel the same way. We should all try to stay in touch for encouragement!!! Anjie
