Rae70 reacted to BlueParis in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Round the block with a podcast ? You need to find an addictive podcast or audiobook and just walk for an episode. sometimes I walk round and round and round my small paris courtyard when I can't be bothered to hot the streets when I'm in Paris. I think neighbors must think I'm craycray but IDGAF...

Rae70 reacted to Noelle74 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?I wish I had the motivation to get out walking more. I’m 45 miles from the gym and if I walk the roads I live on I’ll be dodging semi trucks soon during harvest. The treadmill has just not called to me. When I lived in Hawaii I would go out walking with my friends every morning and I was much thinner. I just don’t have people to walk with or work out with here and it shows. That makes it so much easier in my opinion. Right now my partner is an overweight English bulldog and she’s not much more motivated than I am. I keep telling myself if I just do it every day then it will become habit again. Today is the day right?

Rae70 reacted to NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Weighed in this morning at 199.8 lbs! Finally under 200!
I'm going to NYC this weekend, so lots of walking will be a guarantee, but I'll have to be mindful of hydration and not give in to the temptation of grazing all day on little snack foods. I've already chosen my dinner from the menu of the place we're going Saturday, a lentil soup. Afternoon tea on Sunday will be a nice treat.

Rae70 got a reaction from gracesmommy2 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? Two mos post op 4/29. I feel like the loss is slowing down. Since surgery Im down 33 lbs. I weigh weekly and in the beginning it was 5 lbs down, etc. Now its 1.5 down or sometimes just the same. Im taking in anywhere from 750-950 calories a day, usually toward the lower side, eating 100 grams sometimes more protein and being very careful, I always prioritize protein. Also Im walking 30 min 4/5x a week. Any advice? Just keep on and trust the process?

Rae70 reacted to Shanna NYC in Weight loss SLOWING way down!Oh that is absolutely normal and actually still a great loss streak!
The weight loss path is not a straight path down. It will slow and even stall as your body is adjusting. Weight training can add to it, but honestly your body will adjust throughout. And yes the smaller you get, the slower it gets. I lost about 30lbs in the first month and a half (including the pre-op diet) and yet it's taken me nearly 4 months to lose 12lbs.
You are still early on since surgery and have done fantastic. We started about the same weight. We are in this for life so keep doing what you're doing and let everything else speak for itself - the way you feel, take pictures and measurements. The scale is just one factor.

Rae70 reacted to LisaCaryl in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?@RonHall908 You look amazing!!!
NickelChip, I had a similar experience about 5 years ago. I got down to 202 pounds and couldn't get under 200. Then, I started to gain weight and, over the next few years, reached my highest weight. I am hoping to push under 200 without a big stall, but if it does happen, I'm going to fight hard to not let it mess with my mind!
I find it interesting that so many of us are stalling at the same time. It makes me think this is a normal pattern after surgery. So far, I've been steadily losing weight —even if it's a pound a week. I'm guessing I'm going to be stalling sometime soon, too. This is when we have to look at the NSV's (Non-scale victories)... Ron's pictures for example!!
Hang in there everyone!

Rae70 reacted to sarah709 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Hi there! I just had my surgery last Monday on February 19th! I am on day 8, and honestly, im starting to feel almost back to normal! Struggling with the fact that I can't eat anything other than soup and pudding despite being so so hungry.
Everything has been going down really good. I have had no issues getting in protein. I have 3 premier protein shakes a day, which equals to 90g of protein. I just wish I could eat soft foods like mashed potato and eggs. But my nurse practitioner wants me to stay on the liquid diet for another 3 weeks. YEAH RIGHT, hahah im going to be introducing some foods next week I think. I can't wait any longer. I am so hungry!
I hope you have a speedy recovery from surgery! If you need any advice or have any questions, I am always here for you!
Heaviest Weight: 376 - April 2023
Weight on day of surgery: 291 - February 2024
Total lbs lost before surgery: 85 lbs
Current weight (1 week after surgery): 280
Total lbs lost since April: 96 lbs
Im so close to meeting my 100 lbs down goal!!

Rae70 reacted to NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?I spoke with the nurse last night and tomorrow I get to begin the soft proteins phase, which will be one week post-op. I'm going to the grocery store tonight. I will have to start separating food and liquids, waiting 30 minutes after drinking to eat and then 30-60 minutes after eating to drink. This is going to be a challenge because it takes me forever to drink anything. Part of the problem is I am developing an aversion to my protein shakes and anything sweet or artificially flavored. I think it's time to start making use of my unflavored protein and Greek yogurt to make my own shakes because the commercial stuff is just tasting terrible.
Soft proteins include cottage cheese, string cheese, ricotta, flaky white fish, ground poultry, refried beans, tuna salad, eggs, yogurt, and tofu.
My eating schedule when I begin soft proteins will be:
Breakfast soft protein
16-20oz fluid plus a protein shake between breakfast and lunch
Lunch soft protein
16-20 oz fluid plus a protein shake between lunch and dinner
Dinner soft protein
16-20 oz fluid plus a protein shake after dinner/before bed

Rae70 reacted to ToucanSam in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Hooray it's done. Took about 1.5 hours. As mentioned, my surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet other than the day before. Maybe he should have, because I was supposed to have my gall bladder out too... And he couldn't get to it cause my liver was too fat ??
Other than that, was up and walking about 3 hours after. Only pain is from over drinking my water a couple times, no pain really. Everything just feels weird.
Looking forward to getting out of here today! Can't believe it's only one overnight... But I am glad cause I'd get so bored.
Happy to answer question.

Rae70 reacted to NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? My surgery was 2/21 and I was released from the hospital yesterday morning. There were some minor issues that caused the surgery itself to take longer, and the doctor wanted to do a swallow test before I was allowed anything to drink, so I ended up needing the extra night in the hospital. I'm not in much pain when I'm sitting or lying down, but it's tender when I'm walking around. It doesn't help that both arms hurt from IV and blood draws. Yesterday I managed about 32oz of water plus just under 2 Premier Protein shakes. Hoping the tenderness goes away soon. No hunger at all, which is just kind of weird to realize.

Rae70 reacted to NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?A small NSV today, and this is just from the pre-op diet. I bought a dress last winter that I had wanted to wear on my birthday because I was going to NYC and going out to dinner. I bought it at a store where I wasn't able to try it on, and when I got it home, it was so tight that every single button gaped ridiculously. But I was optimistic, so I kept it. It's been a year. I pulled it out today and tried it on, and now only one button right at the largest part of my bust has a slight gap. Another 5-10 pounds and I will be able to wear it with no issues. And since my birthday is 4 weeks away, I think I know what I'll be wearing!

10 mins later….
lol ? I peeled off the glue from my incisions! The more I thought about it I couldn’t stop myself. After peeling, they looked way better than I thought. Very well healed. ??
Now I can start applying scar gel on them. Yay!

Rae70 reacted to Sandee01 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Feb 14th for me. I decided to "love myself" by picking this date. I have my preop visit next week so I'll find out my pre-surgery diet then. I feel like I've been having a lot of "last meals". My greatest goal out of all this is not just the loss of weight but rather re-jump starting my approach to food. I guess it will begin next week.

Rae70 reacted to RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Just got my surgery scheduled for Feb 7th. Start my two week liquid diet tomorrow.
My first weigh in October with the Bariatric center was 363 lbs. I weighed at the Surgeons office today at 310 lbs. Ready to get this done and move on.

Rae70 got a reaction from Bariover54 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? My original date was 1/11, but a case of RSV had
me rescheduled me to February 29th.
My surgeon advised the lean protein, certain low carb/low gassy vegetables and protein shakes diet, max of 900 calories per day. Also the sugar free popsicles, jellos etc. I did it before my first date was cancelled and lost 10+ pounds. Im looking forward to it.

Answer: "Oh, hon - having watched all seasons of 600 lbs life on TLC doesn't count as "knowing someone", you know."
