  1. My mother is super against me having wls and my partner thinks it’ll do more harm than good. I know they’d support me if I go through with it but they’re doing everything to convince me not to. My quality of life and that of my kids would go up so much if I lose weight and I’ve tried everything else.
  2. Has anyone gotten a gastric sleeve when they already had reflux problems? I’m presurgery but my doctor is deadset that the sleeve is the best surgery and only option he’ll do. I already have reflux issues so I’m concerned it would make those worse as all my research has said it will. My grandma died due to esophageal cancer caused by years of bad reflux so it can be a serious issue and I don’t want to make it worse.

    GERD before gastric sleeve?

Mine is pretty severe, I’ve been on the highest dose of pantoprazole for many years now and still have flare ups sometimes. I haven’t looked in other cities, I didn’t like the idea of having to travel for hours after surgery. But I guess that’d be better than having complications

    GERD before gastric sleeve?

I’ve never had any other surgeries. He just thinks it’s “by far the best surgery out there” and really doesn’t want to do anything else. His office does sleeves almost exclusively. I’ve had reflux ever since my first pregnancy (almost 7 years ago now) when I had hyperemesis and it’s stuck with since

    GERD before gastric sleeve?

He’s the only one I can find in my area that accepts my insurance :/ But I really don’t think I want the sleeve. Thanks
  6. Thank you all for your replies. I put in a request to meet with a doctor to discuss my options. I really think it’d be a good decision for me and would improve our lives.
  7. I have 2 small children and hope to one day have more kids. I’m 25. I’ve been obese most of my life but gone to morbidity obese the past 3 years or so (BMI 40). I don’t have obesity related health conditions yet but my weight is making life harder. No energy, can’t fit on fair rides or airplanes comfortably with my kids, can’t do as much with them as I want to, can’t perform as well at my job due to being so tired. I have a strong family history of high BP, heart problems, diabetes, etc. so I know that’s where I’m headed. My mom’s terrified I’d have complications later in life and die from it (she had a friend almost die from complications 5y post-op) and my husband’s scared they’d make my health issues worse instead of better. There are merits to their concerns. I want to make my life better, not handicap myself even more or even potentially die from it. So from those who’ve been through it: are the risks worth it? Knowing what you know now, would you do in my position?
  8. I’ve been thinking about bariatric surgery for a few years now. I was actually scheduled to get a sleeve a few years ago but my financing fell through at the last minute. I’ve been heavy my whole life and nothing has worked long term. I feel like it’s either surgery or be heavy my whole life. I want to get it but my partner doesn’t like the idea and my parents are super against it.. I’ve heard horror stories about complications. Should I have the surgery? Was it worth it? I’m 255 now but my highest weight was 278. The lowest I’ve ever gotten by diet and exercise was 211 (on keto which damaged my liver so I had to stop).

3 Months Post Op….. and PREGNANT!?

From what I understand baby will take what it needs from you regardless. People have had successful pregnancies after surgery

    Should I have the surgery?

I 100% want the surgery. I’ve tried everything else and it’s the only way I’d lose weight and keep it off. However, I’m scared of complications that could leave my young kids without their mom or my family without income. But I could also do those things if I develop health issues because of my weight. I’m not at the point yet where my weight is causing significant health issues but I know it’s only a matter of time. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons and I wanted to hear about the experiences of others
