    I can't decide

It is a big decision that only you can make. Do as much research as possible. I had the Lapband done November 2008, and have loved it. I lost 50 pounds and than my band slipped. Had intense heartburn, found out it was gastritis due to the band. With gastritis you throw up alot and so it is likely that if I have the band put back on, more than likely I will throw up and cause it to slip again. So I am now considering the bypass as well. My insurance don't cover the other WLS. The bypass has already been approved by my insurance I am just trying to decide if this is the best choice for me. Good luck!
  2. Usually surgery is needed to reposition the band. However I have heard that it could slip back into place after a complete unfill and some time on a liquid diet only. However I don't know if that completely fixes the problem because isn't the bad sutured onto the stomach? Not sure though.
  3. I had my Lapband surgery in November 08 and couldn't be happier. I have lost 52 pounds to date. The past week I have been feeling like I have bit of a sour stomach. Kept wondering what it could be. And then last night I ate something and I PB'ed bad. It went on for 30 minutes. And then I actually threw up very bad. I hurt all last night. There is pressure on my chest, burning in my sternum and soreness where my port is. Today I feel the same, soreness by the port, and burning in my sternum area, especially when I drink something. I called the Dr and go see him this afternoon. Just wondering if anyone else experience this. I wonder what it could be?
  4. Well come to find out my band had slipped from all the throwing up I had did. The burning feeling ended up being some gastritis more than likely caused by the band. It makes you have acid reflux symptoms, chest pains and you throw up. Doctor put me on some ACiphex and Gaviscon. It has helped some. Definitely talk to your Doctor about the burning feeling just to be safe, it could be a sign of something serious.
  5. I just found out yesterday that my band has slipped. I am waiting for a call from my surgeon today to let me know what we need to do from here. I am so bummed out about this. I have lost 52 pounds so far since Nov 24 (band date). Anyways I was having some heartburn/reflux issues. Than I ate a piece of cheese and I PBd. Then I threw up very bad. The next day I could tell something was wrong. And so that is when it all started. I am a little worried because I have read that once you have a slip, you are prone to slips. Just needed to vent a little. I am feeling very down today.

    Totally frustrated and sad!

I think the first several months is all mind over matter and lots of will power. I think you will do just fine without a fill. So do what you think is best. Good Luck.

    UGH! Slippage!

I know exactly what you mean. My band has currently slipped and I am waiting on surgery.. It sucks to have to start all over again. Good luck!

Im so bummed out, my band has slipped!

Yes the Doctor said I would need surgery again. He did however let all the fluid out of my band and it was some major relief. But in the mean time I can eat whatever I want, I don't but I surely can. However I am now considering the Gastric Bypass. I have read alot about slips, and it seems like it will likely slip again. So I don't want to go through that again. And not to mention that my insurance will be running out in about 8 months. So Good luck to you and I hope it works out for you.

    symptoms of slippage

Two weeks ago I had a violent spell of vommitting and my band slipped from that. The next day I woke up feeling starving, a starving feeling I have not felt since before my surgery. I knew something was wrong, and throughout the day I felt as if I could eat anything, I didn't do it, but I certainly could have. I felt really uncomfortable but no major pain. Than I started throwing up again and ever since than I had major pain in my chest and under my ribs. I was miserable. I had to have an upper GI and an EGD to determine if my band had slipped. My surgery is tuesday to reposition my band. If you think there is something wrong, definitely go check it out.
  10. Well here is my story, I was banded Nov 24, 2008. I have had 3 fills and I definitely have restriction. I can eat about 3/4 of a cup or 1 cup sometimes. I have lost about 48 pounds since surgery, which I am completely excited about. But here is my problem, I have lost about 6 pounds since February 21st. What is going on? Actually my scale is up and down usually the same 5 pounds constantly. I can't break this plateau. I am unsure what to do? I walk at least 3 times a week and up to 5 times a week on a good week. The past two weeks I have read other posts and thought maybe I should up my calories. I went to thedailyplate.com and it said to up my calories. I usually eat about 800 calories a day and so I upped them to about 1200 calories a day. I have also increased my protein as well. And still the same 5 pounds are up and down. I just feel like what am I doing wrong?:eek:
  11. I had posted this in post operation question but didnt get a response, so I will retry my luck. I had been feeling like I had a sour stomach for a few days but didn't think much of it. Then Monday night I ate a piece of cheese and it got stuck. Bad Stuck. I PB'ed for about 30 minutes. Longer than I ever have before. Than I threw up very bad. Now I am majorly burning in my esophagus, and it burns expecially when I drink Water. And I hurt in my port area. Now I am just noticing that I don't have any restriction. Very STrange. I had to go to my family doctor because my surgeon is 3 hours away. Due to a few issues with insurance and medical staff, the soonest I can get into do a barium swallow is Monday. But I am racking my brain trying to figure out what is wrong. Anyone experience anything like this or have any thoughts?:tongue2:

Please help - don't know what is going on!

Thanks for the response. Will see what they tell me on Monday.
  13. Yes I had the same problem and hit a major plateau, so I upped my calorie intake and made sure I ate very high protein foods. Protein is very important to your weight loss. Good Luck to you!!
  14. Well I had to do a 6 month diet as well and I think I was the exact same weight on my final weigh in and my first one. I started my 6 months, and lost a few and then gained a few. Got a little stressed out towards the end with having to take off time from work and paying copays at the doctor. I actually had quit. Then two and a half months later, I regretted quitting and went back to the doctor. She said she would use that weight as my final weight since it would have been if I had kept going. She said lets just submit it to your insurance and see what happens. I was shocked when my insurance approved it 3 weeks later. So I moaned and groaned the entire time, but in the end I was glad I was approved and banded. I love my band. Stick with it because it is soooo worth it.

    I am overweight!! Woo-hoo! :)

I know what you mean, I can't wait to be overweight also.... Congrats!
  16. All I can suggest to you is stick with it and don't give up it is so worth it. I have been trying to get the Lapband done for 5 years and kept getting discouraged on all the different things I would have to do for approval. So I would get discouraged and give up. So I finally decided Dec 07, I had to get it done while I had good insurance and needed to stick with it no matter what loop they made me jump through. So in November 08 I finally had it done. I am down 50 pounds and I love my band. I only wish I would have had it done sooner. Good Luck to you and don't give up.

    Second Guessing Myself

Good Luck to you. And yes this is a decision only you can make and only you know what is right for you. I kindof had some doubts before surgery myself. I was on this website daily reading and reading. This website holds more information than any seminar could possibly teach. And then I went for it and had the surgery and couldn't be happier. I love my band!! You will make the right choice.

    Approved!!!!

Congrats!!! Read as much as possible on this site so you will be absolutely ready. Good Luck on your journey!!
  19. I am still early in my Lapband journey but already I have many things that I have accomplished and some still to come. This weekend someone told me I was looking "HoT"!! I haven't heard that probably ever in my life. It made me feel good. And it made me want to work even harder.. Also I love not being the biggest woman at my work anymore. Good Luck to you!!
  20. Thanks for the response. I am going to try to change things up a bit. Actually last night while walking I started to jog a little and I brought along my arm weights to walk with. I definitely could tell the difference in my work out. Also gonna try to change up my food as well. I usually eat alot of the same things and maybe I just need to change things up so I can see my scale move.

    Hi Everyone I'm new

Yes the 6 month diet, I had to do it as well. I have been trying to have the lapband surgery for 5 years now and I would always get discouraged because of the 6 month diet or something else. So I would start strong and then give up. It is alot of crap you have to go through to get this surgery. It takes time for the office visits and $$ for the copays. But last year I set my mind to it and said, if I want this I will have to do it now while I have insurance. So I went through the 6 month diet, psychologist appt, and some group therapy appt, and I was finally approved. I had my surgery Nov 24, 2008 and have lost 45 pounds to date. I think everyday of my life, why didn't I have this done sooner. I know I am still early on Lapbander, but even if something were to happen to my band, I would definitely go through this again. Completely 100% worth it. When you get discouraged or fed up, use this website not only for information but as support. That is what I did. The last two months while waiting for surgery I was on this website everyday so envious of the people who already have their lapband. I learned more on this website than my doctor has ever told me. Good luck to you! You can do it, and believe me it is worth it.

    Post-Fill Protocol

You should contact your doctor because they are all different. My doctors orders 1 week of liquid, 1 week of mushies, and 1 week of soft stuff after a fill. Yes I know, it sounds strict. But I do as he instructs because I am guessing he knows what he is talking about.

    Bad Constipation

Phillips Milk of Magnesia. I take it twice a week and I seem to go alright. I usually go alot the day after I take it.

    WantToBe

I have BCBS of Georgia, it covered the surgery 100% after my $500 deductible was met. However I had to go through a 6 month supervised diet with my doctor...ugh! I had to to to a psychiatrist as well. But it was all worth it. I was banded on Nov 24, 2008 and have lost 45 pounds so far and I feel great. I wish I would have done it earlier. Good Luck to you....
