  1. Had my VSG on March 29 and I’m feeling really great considering. However, as I’m on the clear liquid diet along with protein intake, I’m worried about stomach stretching and monitoring my intake. As I’m sure most of you know, I have to get at least 60g of protein in along with plenty of liquids to stay hydrated. It’s basically sipping a liquid for 12 hours a day to get all of it in, but what about stomach stretching? I don’t want to sabotage my surgery, but there are times it’s hard to get all of the protein in along with the liquids… btw, I know they are not exclusive, protein counts as liquids. I guess I’m just asking do you all strictly measure your intake at all times? I keep track, but only to make sure I track my protein.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

The struggle is real... mine was on 3/29. The energy level fluctuates so much with crazy dips. Just keep trucking, try taking short walks or even just doing circles around the house. I've also found switching up the liquids helps a bunch... mainly because it's like oh yum, beef broth instead of chicken broth. Just a few things that I've found to be positive in my energy.

    Self pay questions

Had VSG on March 29 and did cash pay in Northern California. Total costs are going to be around $25k which includes the surgeon, surgery, one-night hospital stay and all of the things included therein. That being said, non of my pre-op lab work was covered/included in the price, but I worked closely with my PCP and Surgeon and my PCP made it work thru my insurance by ordering the tests. Also, none the initial visits and dietician was covered as I had to go thru those before the commitment and paying the big bills. One thing I can say thru the cash pay is that we didn’t have to jump thru any hoops. Basically my doctor, bariatric surgeon and dieticians were the only ones in charge rather than insurance. It was a really good feeling that my progress was dictated by my actual caregivers versus some arbitrary insurance plan.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hey peeps, just found this website and wanted to jump in. Had my VSG surgery on March 29, doing pretty good, but wow… getting my protein in daily has become a struggle. I could probably live the rest of my life without a chocolate, iced latte or vanilla shake and be a very happy man. been experimenting with other flavors from Bariatric Advantage and Unjury, but woof, this stuff is just hard to get down. Anyone else enjoying the whoas of protein intake?
