Hi. I’m scheduled for the sleeve in TJ on 05/09. I’m a bit anxious about the possibility of complications but I’ve been telling myself for 25 years that I could do it alone. I intentionally scheduled my date a few months out so I can get mentally prepared for the required lifestyle changes and to read as much as I can about the process.

Because I’m doing my surgery out of the country, I won’t meet the surgeon until the day before. I researched a lot before I chose a doctor/clinic and all communication has been by phone and e-mail so far. I had to submit medical information before I was approved and all the pre-op testing will happen the day before the scheduled surgery.

Being close to home is definitely an advantage. I live in Southern California so the trip for me isn’t long.

Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. Weight loss surgery was an amazing decision and my only regret is not doing it sooner.
At one year, I’ve lost 47% of my body weight going from a size 18-20 (2x) to a size 4-6 (small). I feel better. I can walk around and do normal tasks without being exhausted. My acid reflux has improved, no more knee pain, no more incontinence… I feel great.
I have excess skin I’m considering having removed, but it sure beats all the fat. I’m down to my goal weight and praying I’m able to maintain it for the long run! Losing 106 pounds (226 to 120) was not easy and I’m scared of gaining it back. My goal now is to increase my exercise to more than just chewing (haha).
Shopping for “regular” size clothes and having them fit is so much fun. I love being able to cross my legs. I don’t need the X-Large blood pressure cuff at the doctor. I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable in a bathing suit, but I’m ok in my everyday clothes. I no longer dread having my picture taken.
My BMI went from 42 (morbidly obese) to 22 (normal).
My husband and son tell me they’re proud of me. Most importantly, I’m proud of myself.
I was scared to have weight loss surgery, but fortunately it has turned out way better than I ever could of hoped for.
I’d love to hear other peoples’ successes and hope my story inspires others considering weight loss surgery just as the stories other folks shared inspired me.
    HAPPY SURGIVERSARY!

Just posting another meal here, currently waiting 10 minutes
to eat since I just had 8 oz of water. Shakshuka! It's one of my favorite breakfasts. I cooked the hell out of the vegetables since I'm on soft foods right now. Great way to utilize leftover marinara sauce too. I can't get through a whole jar and keep wasting it. My family eats this too but I just made it for me today since I'm home alone. If you eat both eggs you get 20 grams of protein! Not sure if I can manage both eggs so we'll see. Vegetables in here: yellow squash, onion, shredded carrots. Very spicy and flavorful...just what I need.

I get enough protein without meat I love No cow protein bars. If you need protein shake supplement Vega yea one I found I like. I am not vegan. I always ate a mix of vegetarian foods and meat but health reasons I slowly stopped eating meat. I did have eggs with a veggie burger (the actual vegetable style burger a way of getting veggies made in a way my gut could handle) Dr. Praeger's Cauliflower Burger and California Burgers have been my go to. I used to put egg on a small veggie burger. They have "Just egg" that is a vegetarian egg substitute that you can make your own scramble or omelette. There are many options not just beans. You can take plant based omegas, Bragg Nutritional yeast, Vitamin K to name three I can think of as top supplements. Protein intake is based on body weight and activity base protein is 0.36 grams Protein per 1lb of body weight. and more based on type of diet and activity level. too much protein actually converts to sugar. I am now working through some issues not related to my surgery. but have reached goal and maintained since my surgery 2019.

Gotta chime in to debunk the "it's hard to get protein when vegan" nonsense too! Total rubbish.
Seitan is super high in protein, and the best and tastiest I've found is in Asian supermarkets. I use a faux bbq pork or faux roast duck seitan, both of which give 19 to 20 grams of protein per 100g. 6 months out, I can easily eat at least 100g with some greens per meal.
My vegan protein water is 28g of protein per serve. Even without this, I can get 60g+ of protein a day through food.
Protein fortified soy milk is 10g of protein per 250ml serve. If I have that in my protein powder, it's a whopping 40g of protein in one hit. I don't like protein shakes, so I make a matcha latte with the soy milk and get that 10g in.
Without even trying, I get a daily 70 to 80 grams of protein in. Easy peasy.

I was very anxious prior to surgery, and I had a really long time to wait - 7.5 months. When I decided I wanted surgery, I immediately started to eat like I would have to after surgery, except for the tiny meals. I increased protein and decreased sugar and carbs. I lost 50 lbs prior to surgery which is 50 lbs I don't need to lose now. Keeping focused on healthy activities really helped me feel more in control and less anxious.
    Good luck!

Hey! I'm gearing up for my soft food stage next week and thinking about protein sources. I get most of my protein through shakes right now in pureed stage but I also eat eggs and beans. I've been a vegetarian for 7 years now and don't plan on eating meat again. Has anyone tried these foods on soft?
-Steamed tofu (not crispy or hard)
    -vegetarian deli meat slices
-vegetarian ground beef, finely chopped up
And can you think of anything else that might be okay on soft food?

I dont think it'll be hard at all. I'm tolerating pea and soy protein well.
Here's how I'm getting over 80 grams of protein a day in soft foods:
Breakfast: Siggis simple ingredients protein yogurt (15 grams)
Lunch: yellow squash and 3.5 oz of impossible meat made into a meatball (16 grams)
Dinner: 2 oz of refried beans, 1 tbspn of sour cream (4 grams)
Snacks: thin slice of Provolone cheese (3 grams) and the big Kahuna, a protein shake made with 2 scoops of isopure and almond milk (use soy for extra protein). (50 grams)

...total for the day= 88 grams of plant based proteins!

You can switch this up too. Do an omelet, scrambled eggs, tofu scramble, stir fry tofu and other low carb vegetarian meat subs. I was scared at first to try vegetarian meat substitutes but as long as theyre not super breaded and you chew them really well, they seem to be working. My dietician approved of them too! Everyone tolerates food differently after surgery but so far so good. Best of luck. I did my gastric bypass a month ago and I still will not go back to eating meat ever again.
