    Hungry

Hi - everyone everything is going well. I lost 105 lbs and on March 16th I’ll be my one year gastric bypass anniversary. Initially I had a somewhat difficult time eating- went on omeprazole for gastritis issues-it seemed to work. November I went to ER to realize after extensive testing I had a gallbladder attack. In December I had my gallbladder removed. I am doing well now but I am scared because I am hungry at night. Nighttime has always been my downfall. I try to eat well during the day. I work PT 10-2PM M-F and I start the day off with a protein shake - drink water-iced coffee no sugar almond milk-water-snack on either nuts, cheese, yogurt or protein bar. I try to have lunch right when I get home. I have dinner around 6-6:30. I consume about 1200 calories and always exceed my protein levels 70-80. On top of that I get fatigued. I do walk or do elliptical and recently kettlebells. I work ironically in a school cafeteria and it’s a very busy job. I can’t be very mindful as it is very fast paced. Has anyone got the night time hunger?
  2. At my recent doctor appointment on Tuesday 6/7 I was diagnosed with gastritis. It can happen after a gastric bypass. I explained that my stomach ALWAYS hurt and was progressing to be felt in breastbone/rib. It was a gnawing pain that affected eating and may explain my aversion to food other than soup and liquid. It was a completely new pain or feeling-it woke me up at night. Often I dismissed it as gas or hunger pain. But as it progressed it was AWFUL. I took my first dose of Omeprazole yesterday and I felt better. This medicine is over the counter Prilosec but STRONGER…over counter is 20mg I’m taking 40mg. It isn’t too common but a result of some patients. My doctor explained that the new hookup procedure isn’t natural. This DOESN’T happen to everyone only a few (lucky me). My stomach was bypassed and a pouch was made by hooking into intestines-my new stomach lining is mad at me. I have never ever had to use Prilosec in my life-never had acid reflux -stomach issues-or heartburn….it’s a new one for me 🙄. I go back to the doctor in two weeks. He told me I may need to take this forever but I hope I get a break in between omeprazole treatments. My concern is if I am dependent on this medication- it will deplete my Vitamin D reserves. I am happy I may know why I am uncomfortable. I can’t wait to eat normally. I’m still happy with my weight loss and looking forward to forgoing high blood pressure and high cholesterol…..and prevent diabetes!
  3. Thank you for all of your info ! My doctor f/u appointment is tomorrow. I hope it is just what you said.
  4. Hi I had my RNY 3/16 and I am almost 3 months post op. I have had issues with food taste and food turn-off. I’m not so hungry and despise meat-it is hard to eat and not enjoyable. I have lost 51 pounds to presently at 183 from 233. When I have contacted my nurse and at my last appointment was told that not being hungry is good-eat Protein.< br />
I go to the doctor on 6/7 and had blood work done prior. I am able to get my results and my Ferritin level was high at 230(normal is below 150) ALK phosphates also high 109, MPV & RDW and also high. Apparently with my google med school education I am storing a serious amount of iron! I looked at the symptoms and tiredness and abdominal pain are characteristic, which I do have. I am glad to go to doctor but concerned what is the problem and how do I get rid of Iron buildup. I am stopping my Solo Bariatric Advantage Multi with iron until I see my doctor. Has anyone experienced this?
  5. You are wonderful! Thank you so much for your reassurance!

    6 weeks post op depressed

  7. I find it extremely difficult to eat as I am not hungry. Everything tastes bad, and I don’t enjoy eating. I have tried to eat but sometimes it hurts and I always get full. I am taking my multivitamin and calcium as required and drinking water and Premier Protein shakes-plus eating yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar free popsicles, oatmeal, eggs and soup. Today I tried rotisserie chicken, quinoa, and one baby carrot (I was looking forward to it) and I ate a few bites chicken the entire carrot and 3 spoonfuls of quinoa. Meat of any kind tastes bad. I’m a bit scared - will it get better? My dilemma is now that I’m in the stabilization phase I am overwhelmed by the amount of food I have eat.
  8. Thank you all for helping me- I will try all these ideas. I have been doing soup often too - it seems to feel better. I have bariatric chicken broth with added protein. I think it may be a thing with consistency. I have tried eggs-tuna-chicken-lean ground meat-Turkey lunch meat….and it was difficult….just a few bites. Maybe my stomach is still healing. I am managing to get my protein allotment but more through liquids. Perhaps my stomach is not ready for Phase 4 soon and believe me it not from lack of effort. I am so glad I have this forum and people who understand.
  9. Thanks all for the comments- I appreciate your reassurance that it will get better🙂 one day at a time

    March surgery buddies

Hi I had my gastric bypass 3/16. I am 2 days into my Purée Stage. The liquid stage was easy in the beginning but toward the end it was becoming boring. Your stomach is smaller so liquid phase wasn’t difficult for me as much as boring-I was ready for Stage 2. I was really excited to have some purée food and I started with 8oz of skim milk with 1/2 tablespoon of Hershey’s simply 5 syrup. It was delicious and I am NOT a milk drinker. The milk counted toward my water allotment and honestly that is the MOST difficult part so far. You have drink but stop 1/2 hr before a meal than wait 1/2 hr after your (20 minute meal). There are some factors to consider to eat proper for nourishment and hydration. I lost 11 lbs. in a week so it’s working. YOU will lose weight. How is everyone else doing?
