  1. I do the same thing when I am starting a diet...have one last "x" before the fun stops. I suppose I'll have some pasta from Macaroni Grill and maybe a few Hooters wings. Really, at this point I am so excited about the upcoming surgery that I'm happy to do whatever the doc tells me about the pre op diet. Good luck to you!
  2. Brandy, Can you explain what a pouch test is, and when it is used? I haven't heard of that before. Thanks so much.
  3. :Banane34:Hi There, I'm having surgery 9/3, and would love a mentor who also had surgery from Dr. Kirshenbaum in Aurora, Colorado. I'd like to exchange e-mails and ask the zillion questions about what everything is going to be like, and what I should and should no do. Thanks so much!!!
  4. Dionna, That is great that you have such positive support. I'm sure that will be a big help to you. Everybody, Will I be ok by myself after having surgery? I can get a ride home from the surgery center, but do I need to have a friend stay overnight with me?
  5. Mal, glad to hear he is on his way to Craig. From what you said, it sounds like what they call an "incomplete" which is very good in terms of chances for healing. Everybody, thanks for your advice on keeping the surgery confidential. Deb, you are right, strong support is the only thing I want during this time.
  6. Thanks everyone for your comments. It makes me feel better to know that the rest of you have the same perspective about keeping this confidential. Good luck all, I am so glad that we have each other for support!
  7. Mal, Since you're in Colorado, I would recommend a referral to Craig Hospital in Englewood. They are the #1 hospital nationwide for spinal cord injury.
  8. As my date grows closer, I am leaning toward only telling a few close friends about my surgery. I suppose this is due to embarassment, that I could not lose weight the "normal" way, whatever that means. Also, I've had a lifetime of comments from family, and just do not want to go there. Is anybody else hesitating to spill the beans to friends, coworkers, etc?
  9. Hi April, I've asked that question too, and have heard that if you have a desk job you CAN go back in 3 days if you need to, but it is suggested that you take off a week if you have the time. That's my plan. Tally, OMG my date is also 9/3! Are you also with Dr. k? That would be too crazy. We could wave to each other going in and out of the OR. Nora
  10. I LOVED that video. The more I can learn about this, the less scary it is to me. Good luck to all Septembers!!!
  11. Happy Sunday everybody! Here's a question, did you all tell your friends/family about getting the lap band. I'm thinking of only sharing the news with my closest circle of friends. Truth is that I'm a little embarassed that I wasn't able to lose weight with diet and exercise. At work I just signed up for vacation leave, so only the employee health nurse knows what is going on so I can get fmla. Any thoughts on this? Am I being overly sensitive?
  12. Any of the Denver area group feel like getting together for coffee or lunch Sunday 7/27??? Let me know, would love to chat.
  13. I heard that the Realize brand lap band has a port that doesn't stick up as high. Anybody have experience with that one?
  14. Brandy, you CAN do it! you can be down those 5 lbs by Thursday...you have come this far, just keep the goal in mind. Exercise cures the blues, go out and enjoy your Saturday! Hang in there.
  15. Good morning everybody. I'm on my way to the convention center for volunteer training for the Democratic Convention. Should be a crazy crowd. I got brave and got on the scale this morning. OMG an all time high for me, other than when I was pregnant. At least there will be no worries, my BMI is plenty high at 36 now. Dee, thanks for the info. What did you mean by sliming? Or do I not want to know, lol? Prty, don't stress about 50 in your future. Just think of Samanatha's birthday in Sex & The City, you can have an equally fabulous time. Adorakable, I feel the same way. Wish I had known about this option a long time ago. Oh well, I guess things always work out for a reason. I love those splenda slurpies too - it has been steaming hot here in Denver. Deb, I'm so glad your pup is better. I've been reading the old posts, and you sure have had some tough times. I have 2 chi's, and they are like my babies too. Munchkin, I'm a RN too. From the posts, seems like we have a few of us on here! Marie, how is your first week postop going? You're right, gas is not the worst thing. Butterfly, thanksfor the tips. I'll plan on taking a week off. Have a great day everybody! I got my consult appointment with Dr. K. for 8/8...it can't happen fast enough! Nora
  16. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have yet another question for all of you. Please tell me EVERYTHING that you do not like about having the lap band. Please be honest. This forum has shown me a lot about the positives, but I want to be sure I know both sides of the story before spending 10K and making a life changing decision. thank you so much in advance for your honesty! Nora
  17. Lisa, I'm so glad we found each other at the seminar! I am very excited, and have an appointment with Dr. Kirshenbaum for a consult on 8/8. Please keep in touch and let me know what's going on with you! Thanks everybody for the reassurance about good experiences with Dr. K. How is it working for everybody in social situations? Do other people comment on what or how much you are eating? Also, do you feel the port much, or is it visible under the skin once you reach your goal weight? Thanks all. Nora:thumbup:
  18. Hello all, I'm considering the surgery from Dr. K, and wondered how many days I need to plan to take off work? I have a desk job. Also, was anybody else nervous that you don't plan for an overnight hospital stay? Did you feel you needed it? Thanks - appreciate your help so much. Nora
  19. Lisa, I'll be there and would be happy to be your buddy. I"m new to all this, and just learning about my options. My name is Nora, and I'll be wearing a white t, black floral skirt, and black and white sandals. See you tonight - save me a seat. Nora:ohmy:
