That's pretty brilliant! Only one time have I mindlessly opened the fridge to see what's there, then realized NOPE! But I did go to a BBQ yesterday surrounded by some amazing looking food. I even made a great looking Mac and Cheese that I couldn't taste. So that probably played a part. ???

Last night I dreamt I woke up and mindlessly went to the kitchen and had a plate of white rice with ketchup. Wolfed it all down before I remembered I'm 13 days post-op still in the puree phase. I panicked having no idea if I should try to throw it up, is it going to make my stomach explode ... No idea what to do. And it was the 4th of July so I couldn't call anyone. When I woke up and realized it was a dream, I was very relieved and had a good laugh.

I have tested for covid exactly twice, my two tests prior to my scheduled surgeries. Was never asked if to do any further tests. Have no idea if or when I ever had covid, just know I never had symptoms. Was never asked if I had covid. Was told to inform them if I had any cold symptoms before surgery which I did even though I had not been tested yet. I specifically said be honest with the surgeon. I presume they know what they're doing. That's enough for me. If it's not for you, fine. But I'm not going to criticize your decision. But thanks for your opinion of me

I personally would not mention to them I was positive unless specifically asked. I'd just go on with my scheduled test and the result of that is all that matters.

That's a good point. My hospital required a test 3-5 days prior to surgery. I'd guess yours does, too. Put it off as long as possible and you might be negative.

Your beautiful, yummy bagel creations really give me hope that this will be doable long term. I can't wait to get to that phase.

It's likely. I tested positive two days prior to surgery and they had to postponed it, I believe, at least 30 days (ended up being more than 90 due to scheduling). But I'm sure your surgeon will let you know. Hopefully not, for some reason. Good luck.

I've been on purees since day 2 and I'm not what I would call hungry. Weak sometimes and know I need to eat, but not stomach hunger. I'd be curious if purees have the same effect on you.

3-derland! I'm a daily weigher. I know it's not a popular, but I've always had the most success when I know I'm going to have to check-in everyday. This morning it was 397.0 - my first visit into the 3s in a long, long time. I am happy!

When I turned 50, my friends at the exercise class I go to got me a t-shirt that I loved but never wore because it didn't quite fit. I didn't want to make them feel bad, so never told them unless they asked. That was June 2020. My first class back after surgery was yesterday and I wore the shirt and they noticed. Very happy moment!

Gotcha, wow, that's rough. But it should definitely let your tummy heal very well. Enjoy your liquids! I was so happy to be able to have soup. That lasted about a week. Now I'm counting down the days to soft foods! ? I'd imagine your weight loss is off to a fantastic start!

Now I'm feeling guilty I'm not walking more ??? Pretty sure my body can handle it but I just don't have the patience. But my exercise of choice is UJam (a variation of Zumba). My wife (not irrational) is concerned I'm going to jump too fast back into exercise, so once I have my first post-op appointment on Thursday, they (my wife and surgeon) should clear me to get back to my favorite activity regularly. I can't wait to see what it feels like 40 pounds lighter.

I've never heard of being limited in walking post-op. Everything I've heard is walk as much as possible. Consistently amazed at the different advice. Are you feeling pretty good, though? Recovering well and getting in your water and protein?

I feel very lucky that I haven't really had any discomfort since I left the hospital. I've walked consistently every day (short walks because I'm lazy, but many times a day). Yesterday was my day 9 post-op. Wrote my doc to see if low impact aerobics were ok and she said yes, just keep the session short and adjust according to how sore I feel after. Happy to report I have no soreness so I'll go more next time. I'm constantly surprised at how different people's post-op (and even pre-op) experiences are. This process is so much not a one-sized-fits-all. But the one constant - almost without exception, by 6 months post-op, we're all glad we had it and only wish we'd done it sooner.

Always consult with your surgeon and dietician. My plan does not have any mention of calories in the soft food stage which I'm guessing you're in. Just making sure I get the protein and the water, avoiding foods that are still problematic and learning how to properly read my body including not eating to the point of feeling full. If I were doing all that and consuming 800 calories a day (especially being the 400 pound male I am), I think they'd be thrilled!

Still feel it, but getting better every day, thanks. Had my first "workout" today. My aerobic class. Felt so good to sweat again, even doing only a couple of songs at half speed. Miraculous how fast the recovery time is, isn't it?

Everything I'm seeing is saying not to for at least the first 6 months. I was told that too by my doctor. You should definitely do what your doctor says. But if I were in your shoes, I'd bring it up with my doctor and make them explicitly say it's not a problem for you. They're not perfect, it could be a mistake.

I was able to get mine pretty easily from day 2 by having fluids like soup, pudding and cream of wheat (if that's permitted for you) mixed with the best invention ever - Isopure Protein Powder, which tastes like nothing and gives you 25g of protein per scoop. As soon as I discovered it, I said goodbye to protein shakes. Gets me towards my 64oz of fluid and 60g of protein.
