Lisa, sorry you are in pain. You may be retaining water....how long you have to be on liquids? can you do any exercise? it may help you with the stress too. I had stayed in the same weight for a long time, I need lot less calorie intake that what the book said:rolleyes. Hope you feel better, Lidia

What was your numers on the resting metabolic test, I can bet you mine is lot slower than yours. Take this: in order to lose they recommend you stay on 1500 cal, I lost a little staying at 900 cal, that is exercising 3 times a week and watching my carbs. 5 pounds in the last 6 months? I barely lost 3 in the last 6 months....I thing is great1 Crazycibertalk banded on 4/20/06 225/197/150

I like to have: string cheese on hand to calm the craving. Other times I prepare a small cheese quesadilla, seems that cheese is the one for me. However I like to freeze yougurt and eat that, but I CAN NOT have any frozen popsicles or ice cream bars in the freezer because I would eat them all in one nite, I am out of control when I know I have them.

I am not sure if you started with a lower BMI like I did, but if so be happy!!!! I lost around 30 pounds in 1 year:angry I learn no to compare with others and realized that takes 3 to 4 fills to get the right one, however the sweets , ice cream, etc craving never left me and I have to drink water and eat lots of proteins to calm down. Hope it helps crazycibertalk Dr. Kuri 4/20/06 225/197/160

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi, I am new here at the lower BMI but not new to the lapbandtak, had posted before. Why is that I have to kill myself working out before I see any progress? I know I know that at times I am not consistent with my routine and work out 2 times and others 6 times a week, but I have been at this weight for a long time now. Just realized that eating 1500 cal will not help me to lose, guess I will need to stay at 1000 or 1200. After breaking the 200 ish, I thought it would start coming off on a weekly basis but no, again stuck! Any suggestions?:help: Thanks Crazycibertak 4/20/06 Dr. Kuri 225/197/160

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Congratulations, I was banded with Kuri too about a year ago. You are a low BMI same as me and also over 50. You have done very very good. I lost 30 pounds in 1 year, that is SLOW, just got my 4th fill. But it took a while to learn how this works and most of all how this works for ME. We are all different, I have been at 1300 cal for a long time and lost with Lindora, but then I put it back, my YO YO dieting had brought my methabolism to a very slow mode. I know that when I DO NOT count my intake, I ASUME;) that I am doing "good". Because the band only lets me eat small portions and 1 cup of food per meal, so I was thinking I am doing great but my weight is going down slow. Why? Well, after looking at my intake, I see that I am above 100 gr. of carb per day. ( yougurt, cereal, chocolate powder in coffee, fruits, margaritas, etc) things that are not bad ( except the margaritas :embarassed: ) but are adding my carbs even if I stay under 1300 CAL. The band will permit high carb to go in, but Thanks God, I can't eat bread and pastas. I realized that as soon as I get my carb intake under 75 gr, I start loosing. My conclusion is that being banded it is helping me NOT TO REGAIN MY WEIGH AND BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN, it will not help me with amount of carb intake, that has to be my job for life. I am very happy because I have not gained and the 30 pounds are GONE for ever. Making better choices of carb intake it is going to be a lifetime efford. Lidia

You tell me!, I had been so close to the 30 pounds loss. Fluctuationg between 199 and 196, damit! I am waiting any time I will drop but it has been 2 weeks now. Just got a fill Saturday and first she put 2.4 cc and it showed in the Fluoroscopy that the barium did not go thru so she took out .2cc and now I am at 2.2. I was at 2.0, but I do not feel much different. I was already eating 1300 cal and excersicing. I have to watch over the week end, drink fewer glasses of wine and one 1 scoop of ice cream... Slow Losers - Unite!

have you ever ask yourself why people that started at 240 or higher lose fater than the ones started at 225??? I do! because I started a year ago at 225 and my weight loss is only 27 pound! and it is upseting. So here is a logical answer I hear in another board: people with higher BMI or weight have been eating lot of calories 3000 or more a day, so when they get to 1500 a day, they metabolisms start to burn faster and they lose fast. people that have a lower BMI normally already were eating around 2000 cal and going to 1500 or 1300 is not such a difference so the metabolism starts slow. the good news is and as suppose to be on a diet, that the weight stays off and does not come back like when we quit a diet becasue we are 'tired" or dissapointed. So, the weight WILL COME OFF it just will take longer for us. We need to make good choices and exercise. Lidia

It seems that when I am on track and following ALL the rules I have to be good for 2 or 3 weeks to see 2 pounds lose, however I know that I slip a glass of wine on week ends and once every 2 weeks is ice cream, but I still work out 5 days a week and stay less than 1500 cal, the scale is going down but very very slowly, one year and 27 pounds....

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi All, My name is Lidia and I am 52. Was at the "slow looser united".... but I think I have to be here, like it better. I was banded with Dr. Kuri May 2006, yep one year!. and I did not lose fast at the beggining neither, it has been a slow even pace, strange but, what ever it is as long it goes down:heh: This last months things start to slow down a lot so I am going for a fill May 19. Hope I do not get completelly restricted, I would hate to go back for ab unfill...I can eat a cup and a half and have lost my solf point, only pressure is what I feel. Yep, working out 5 times a week gave me the body to fit in size 12 but my weight is still at 198. Still 48 to go. Lidia 5/06 Dr. Kuri 225/198/150 3 fills

hi, I get emails only once every other day. There is not that many of us out there, I think. But, I know that we all surf on other boards or other places of this board too.:rolleyes If I weight everyday, I noticed that say start the week on Monday morning at 200 pounds and then gradually with working out and good habits it goes back to 197 by friday or Saturday. Then on Monday back to 199 to end up on 197 on Friday ( that is 2 weeks). At the third week start Monday at 199 and all of sudden on Friday I am at 196, so excited to come back on the following Monday and be a t 198.5 or so. Therefore sounds like that every 3 or 4 weeks I loose a pound. It is streesfull at times, but is going down. I thought that perhaps the margarita over the week end did it , but I have one every month, so is not that. I am continually working out and following band foods except for a little cocktail here and there. My inches are coming down and I officially can fit in size 12 NON-stretch jeans!:clap2: Lidia-Kuri 4/20/06 3 fills 225/197/150

    Slow Losers - Unite!

Hi All, It has been a while since my post. yes the day has arrived!!!!. Happy day to all of you and me banded on April 20, 2006!!!!!:clap2: For the newbies and the ones that know me here is a short detail of my 1 year experience. I am not going to go thru the TJ experience, but want to say that I arrived a month earlier from my surgery day, to check Kuri out, hehe. At that time I was 220, withing 4 weeks and right before my surgery I weighed 225.:omg: A year later today I am at 197, not very fast, in fact very slow compare to others but is not a COMPETITION, I learn that the hard way, take what you need from the board but DO NOT dwell in comparing your weight, age, day of surgery with others because you will be miserable, like I was before.... I have to say, that I was a PROFESSIONAL YOYO, I said that before because nobody could lose 40/50 pounds in summer and put it back plus in winter, yep that was me, tried NutraSystem ( lost 70 pounds) tried WW, Jenny Craig ( 60), Lindora (50), etc etc all losing and putting it back. Finally I put a stop to this with the band and after waiting for a long time ( too long) to get my first fill, I was able to maintain my weigh for the first time in my life 6 months straight. Then with my real second fill in November ( cause the second one did not count) , I struggled to figure the PB, what can I eat, high carb foods, etc etc. Today, I had learn a lot and learn that I have to change my way of life and eating, is not a COMPETITION, it is my life. I will get there in Gods timing. But meanwhile I discovered: 1- stress is a big part in my life that can trick my band and my body. 2- that first bite has to be small otherwise..... 3- that first bite has to be chew well and I have to think I have food in my mouth and not eating meanwhile typing on the computer, watching TV, talking, etc, so easy to do it and forget to chew chew. Once I pass the first one the other ones come better.:hungry: 4- I have to realize that I am not in my 30 th where I was able to knock off 30 to 40 pounds in a couple of moths. I have now some other hormonal issues, that I do not want to think but are there. 5- I am faithful to an exercise routine. 6- still drinking about 1 gallon of water a day. 7- Support boards and meetings are very important!. With all that and even at 197, I am fitting in my size 12 stretch jeans, guess the weights and cardio are working in my inches... My skin looks real good, stomach shrinking, and doing real good health wise. I am not regretting the band, because I am learning to work with it, otherwise left at my will power...it can go so far and then is gone. Blessings to all, Lidia-Dr.Kuri 4/20/06 225/197/150 2.4 cc ( 3rd fill) __,_._,___

Going on liquids again will not work, believe me. Each time that I PB have to go on 2 days of clear liquid, you would imagine I lost some, NO. I think you and me have to increase proteins and count our calories and not have high cal protein drinks- Just my thought-

Hi, I have not been active in this board, but I have been reading.... Banded on April 20, 06 and as today I lost 20 pounds. That qualifies me as a slow looser. I had 2 fills and this last one is very tight. I thought is may be because I started my band journey at 225 and now I am 205 and may be is because I did not start at 300. Then I thought, may be is my age, I am 50 and thought I am loosing slow because of that. So, I think now that I am not excercising enough, I do 2 or 3 times a week and only 30 minutes. Will try that. Any suggestion?

    I am in a tunnel/help

I am new and thinking to get banded soon. I have been researching and reading your comments meanwhile my sub concience mind is telling me "do not worry to stay on a diet now because when you get the band it will come off" and I am gaining lbs as we speak.... I am applying to get a loan for the surgery and this may take time. I feel I am in a tunnel and can't stop thinking. I need to follow a diet either way but since I am looking at surgery, I have been gaining weight. Any suggestions?

    I am in a tunnel/help

Well I think your friend should gone to Alcoholic Anonymous!. Lot of women that join the AA, lose weight when they stop drinking. If you eat high calories shakes ,ice creams and alcohol drinks, that goes directly to your big stomach ( Dr.s words) and does not fill your small pouch. I know that I eat many times, in responce to stress, then I put large pieces in my mouse without even noticing that I did that, uncontrollably sneeks in....well with the band, I think I will have "a real sign" and will be able to stop and realize what I am doing. Hope to correct that problem without starting to smoke again or bitting my nails.....may have to find other solution.

    Dr Aceves or Dr Kuri

Hi I just came back from TJ. I was going to see Dr. Kuri, Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Huacuz. Dr. Ortiz has a clinic tha operates in the "Edificio de la Vision", that means the vision center. Is a hospital for vision problems, I did not care about that so just drove by and did not even go in. Dr Huacuz has soem problems with clients and it was posted and because he is 3,000 dol cheaper than the others it was suspicions to me ( may taking some shorcuts ) to make his cost lower. So went to see Dr. Kuri in the new Hospital Angeles that just opened 2 months ago!. Hospital very clean with an EMERGENCY ROOM, a real hospital. So I talked to the doctor and I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT: APRIL 20!. I will need to go the day before and stay in the hospital that night and then surgery next day, my partner can come with me and stay witrh me in my private room. I am happy I make this decision and also happy for the honesty of Dr. Kuri when he told me that I have to work with my mind and know that I will have a pouch of half a cup to fill and nothing else. Now I have to "prepare myself" for this new challange in my life...

Hi, has anybody have put on the gastric balloon???? could you please share with me your experience? success, food, weight maintanence, does it work? I was reading that for low BMI they recommend the balloon and that is only for 6 months and then removed and you can try for another time after 30/45 days... I am trying to make decision if I should go with gastric balloon or the band. I appreciated your comments.

Ohh I did not read that anywhers, may be need to read more. I understand that with the band I will be dieting even harder but I will probably get sick if I over eat and then will learn to lisen my body...is a BIG lesson, right? BTW, I am real excited!!!!!!!
