  1. Usually what insurance requires, insurance covers...otherwise there's no real need for the psych consult etc. It's just an added expense, IMHO. It's rare that someone who isn't really "right" for the band is caught this way! :smile2: And the more "medical" consults should be covered because they inform the surgeon and can provide optimum outcomes during surgery.
  2. Bigmomma don't pay that 1k "fee" until you check with your insurance to find out that what the fee covers is NOT covered by insurance. Please. Save yourself some bucks. (If you have a bunch to toss around, i could use some! :smile2: )
  3. Yes for some full liquids means anything you can ge through a straw (lucky dogs LOL)
  4. CRUSHING pain IS a symptom of a heart attack. Good grief call your regular doc then, or go to a regional hospital. Don't be foolish. If it's nothing, then good for you. I'm done entreating you to call; you're a grown up. But to do nothing until tomorrow is, well, silly at best. Unless you are a drama queen and your pain really ISN"T crushing. ? Not being tacky either; just trying to get across via the written word how important it is you take care of it NOW.
  5. Call your doc tomorrow and ask what else you can have; usually when we're healing you can have pretty much "unlimited" liquid BUT...it depends totally on what the doc says. I for example couldn't have the pudding, but I could have sugar free jello. Ask your doc! :smile2: And hang in there! It will be over soon and it's worth it to let everything heal like it's supposed to.
  6. this is such BS! Usually INSURANCE (if you have it) covers "the necessary preop procedures"...psych consult, any tests (x ray GI series ultrasound, blood work cardiac consult whatever!) and your visits to surgeon as well! Good grief they shouldn't be charging "fees". Period!
  7. Did you call your doctor? Please, if you didn't; I don't know how old you are, your health history etc but "crushing" chest pain should NEVER be ignored, even if you are 20 and petite and at the perfect weight.
  8. There are a LOT of people who eat rice and aren't fat. It's important to remember that, too. All things in moderation, Grasshopper! :smile2:
  9. WHEN you can...would you post to let me know you're ok? It's maybe nothing, but it's nothing to play around with.
  10. If you can't reach your doc call 911. Crushing pain in the chest is NOTHING to fool around with.
  11. Yes. CALL YOUR DOCTOR! If you have "horrible pain" in the middle of your chest, call your doc asap please!
  12. Oddly refrieds were the "food" I longed for too. I even got a can of them out of the panty and sat and CRIED over them. How sad is that!?! LOL You'll do marvelously! :smile2:
  13. TheArchitects...I'd skip the chips for now; they may be a slider but they aren't a mushie. Give yourself a chance to heal; you have a more generous post op diet than a lot of us, so I know you can hang in there! They won't quit making chips between now and the time you're finally cleared for take off! :smile2:
  14. Agreed...or to say "once your post op diet allows it" You are always supportive; sometimes though it's hard to read between the lines! :wink2: (I've been called to task on this type of thing too so I didn't mean to embarass you, if I did)
  15. willowcat, under no circumstances should anyone eat ahead of her or his post op diet as given by each surgeon. Since OP is just over 1 week banded, it's possible that anything chewable is still on the "do not" list. IF a person is newly post op and really really REALLY struggling with the diet as given to them by his/her surgeon, then contact the doc and ask for direction. Eating ahead of a post op plan is a major cause of slips. I know we're here to help; but we all should follow our docs pre- and post-op diets. Yes they vary, but then so do docs and their surgery "styles" and their client bases. We don't know enough to encourage someone to do something other than what the docs have said, especially at the early stages.
  16. I was told well-cooked rice and pasta are ok. They both can continue to absorb liquid and swell, so she said to make sure they are pretty well done before eating them.
  17. I think you should run your concerns by your surgeon.
  18. Ok Bad news...you do not HAVE to stick to "the lap band". You can eat around it. Some do. That's just a sad fact of life. If you want something that is closer to 100% guaranteed, get the duodenal switch. Good news: The band makes it MUCH easier to stick to the diet part of "diet and exercise", IF you are committed to losing. It does not make it easy...but it makes it easier. What percentage of people lose weight and keep it off with diet and exercise alone? Something like 5% I think? With lap band the average is much higher, the odds are in your favor, but it's not guaranteed. So be ready to work! If you are committed, though, it can be darn near miraculous.
  19. When were you banded? Depending on when you were banded yes it might cause a slip if you aren't well healed. Otherwise all you can do is 1. WAIT for the food to go through and 2. REMEMBER to listen to your body. If you overeat on foods that aren't sliders, you're going to pay for it.
  20. Can't feel my port. Your BAND probably won't flip (!) it will be your port.... My port is tilted I had no pain I have no pain, and my doc still accesses it just fine. I think they often move around a bit but a move doesn't mean more surgery, necessarily. If I were you I'd just quit mashing it!
  21. It depends on the requirements of your insurance. Good luck!
  22. Welcome! There's so much TO the lap band, it's hard to answer your "Anything I need to know now?" LOL like, what DO you know? What DON"T you know? Narrow it down a little and I'm sure we'll be glad to help!
  23. That's great..over 50 pounds in about 3 months! Good for you! Welcome!
  24. The band is a big decision! And it can be frightening. I'm glad to help allay fears any way I can! Some things we should be aware of and avoid (like eating the wrong things too soon on your post op "recovery" diet) and some things we fret over that don't really have to be an issue at all. :smile2:
  25. Good luck! And if your uric acid is high but he won't (for whatever reason) prescribe the med, your reg doc can take care of it for you!
