  1. Thanks for clearing it up. I NEVER have made myself throw up and it usually makes me feel worse, not better...I guess like crying makes some people feel better but not others. I thought everyone hated to throw up! And I used to drink...but if I paid for it, I kept it down! LOL I think my digestive tract is a one-way. :tt2:
  2. Sarah I really don't understand having to make yourself vomit. I'm 54 and can say honestly that I have thrown up when I was very ill but NEVER EVER had to "make myself" vomit. ?? Not being pissy, just confused. You shouldn't have to make yourself throw up. Once banded if food gets stuck it will come up without you forcing it, if it won't go down...
  3. I was banded 8/29, slept on my stomach 8/30. I just "did" it. If you wait you can get adhesions etc.
  4. I know how you feel. I have a 14 cc band and only have 6 cc's in there....still can eat too much and get hungry if I keep it to 1/2 cup etc. Hang in there; that's what I'm doing!
  5. you should go to your regular doctor. Many things non-band related could be causing your cough.
  6. Try this i didn't use it (I had trouble too) but found it and it seems to help most people: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/
  7. I think some people with autoimmune issues (like scleroderma, lupus, to name two) run that risk and therefore may not be candidates for the band. For the rest of us? It is not an issue. The material is considered inert...we don't react to it. That's one reason they do all the blood work etc pre banding; to make sure you don't have a medical issue that would cause you to reject it (or have other issues) down the road.
  8. Respectfully, eating until you're so obese that you need a surgical implant to curb it is eating like a freak. Chin up! Remember the point of the band is to eat less and lose weight. You are recovering from major surgery. Give yourself a break. What if it was bypass? You'd REALLY be unhappy then! I know it's easy to get down in the dumps during "bandster hell" but it will pass. It is a short time in what should be a long healthy life. You'll be able to go out to eat once you've recovered. You'll forget you ever felt this miserable, trust me.
  9. OK! Not a bank holiday here (I WISH!) but tues is surely soon enough. Just be careful. It really is most likely something very minor. So don't worry!
  10. The odds are it isn't serious...could be so many NON horrible things! but if you pass out while driving etc (or if you'd cut yourself badly) then it WOULD have a serious effect anyway. You really should call monday because odds are it's something you can fix quickly and easily but the fallout if left untreated could be bad!
  11. It's called "orthostatic hypotension" and it doesn't just happen to people who have normal BP. Drugs can cause it, or a TON of other things...but definitely call your doc tomorrow and tell him/her. AND it may not be your BP...it may be a blood sugar issue etc. so safest to let the pro figure it out for you!
  12. Go see a regular doctor. It's totally possible that what you are experiencing is NOT band related. Something's causing your blood pressure to tank. You need to get checked out ASAP! Be careful driving etc until you find out what's causing this!
  13. It's just 3 months out of your life. You can discuss with your surgeon but you don't want to be TOO tight...that would be a nightmare and dangerous, to boot. If you are at good restriction now just go and enjoy your summer!
  14. Here's a link to the "contraindications" (scroll down) straight off the trademarked lap band web site: Lapband.com - LAP-BAND® System Risk and Complications Information IBS isn't specifically listed but some doctors may feel it falls in there along with other digestive problems...so truly it depends on the surgery and she would need to talk with a surgeon (or several) to find out that info!
  15. If you mean "Mrscoco", I think she was just doing a "test" post to see if her ticker was working (which it wasn't)...
  16. The 13's etc are "junior" sizes And you would drop 4 sizes going from 20 to 12 20 to 18 18 to 16 16 to 14 14 to 12
  17. Getting fills isn't cheating either! It's what makes the band work. That would be like buying a car but then being reluctant to put gas in it ... or buying a dishwasher but not washing dishes in it! Without fills (adequate fills) the band is just pricey plastic around our stomachs. don't feel guilty; do what you need to!
  18. How can using the band be a "cheat"? You got it hoping it would curb your hunger! Goodness sake...go back to your doc!
  19. She really REALLY needs to attend a seminar. She'll need to like the surgeon and whether or not her IBS is an issue can depend on the doc and his/her experience. Plus, does her insurance cover lap band? It's worth it to go.. There are also tons of books out there (I bought a couple from amazon) about lap banding that may get her going.
  20. I guess if someone asked you "Where did you get YOUR surgery" I'd be more prone to trust 9 posts solely about the same thing (and many worded the same..almost verbatim) Guess what...most of us think our docs are wonderful. Truly we do. As I said...if you are bona fide, my apologies.... but just because someone posts, over and over, about how great a doc in Mexico is (or any doc, for that matter), doesn't make it so. In truth, most who read this know that fact anyway. MUCH research should be done before anyone picks a surgeon, whether insurance pays, or we are "self-pay", or whatever "other options" may arise. Apparantly LBT thought you were over the top, too, since your posts have been pulled. This is a great site where most of us really try to help each other out. If you meant it in that spirit then you now know you weren't coming across that way...and maybe in your new incarnation you can rein it in. If not, I'm sure they'll pull you again! Hope you really mean it.
  21. if it could get down there, it can get back up. May not be the best thing for you, though.
  22. I don't know how you eat fish, and strawberries w/whipped cream, without chewing but good for you if you have! You're lucky you were allowed to eat earlier; most of us aren't so blessed!
  23. What does your wife eat, and your sister? How much exercise do they get compared to you? How much did you need to lose, compared to them? You have more muscle so you use calories more efficiently; that's one reason the rate of weight loss for men can be a little faster than for women. There are drugs that cause gain, like steroids etc. But the odds are there are other reasons why you've lost faster.
  24. i agree, not normal for most of us. I was on a very strict post op diet. The point isn't to see what you CAN eat but what you are supposed to be eating right now! You can rip your stitches loose and hurt yourself internally. IF your doc said you could eat real food (solid etc) already, you are one in a very few allowed such a progression.
  25. You're probably just healing, and it's that, or gas. However...if it is still bothering you on Monday, call your surgeon and check to be sure!
