  1. I have not had the surgery yet but I do drink the protein drinks and they do cause gas for some people that are sensitive to dairy . I tried something today with my protein drink and it worked like a charm. Thought I would share it with ya all. I chewed two of the lactaid tablets right before drinking the protein drink. NO GAS!!! Yeah!!!
  2. I know exactly what you are talking about. LOL I keep thinking there has to be a doctor that will talk me out of this but so far everyone has positive things to say about it. Ofcourse they have not had the surgery so... Like you. one hour it is yes, next hour is no. Let us know how you do if you go thru with it. No date for me yet, just finished all my tests.
  3. Amen! I could not have said that any better. Sounds like we all need each and each others prayers.
  4. Has anyone had problems with excess gas with the protein drinks? Any solutions on this?:cool2:
  5. I understand exactly what you are feeling. I too am having second thoughts. This site is what we need. So many wonderful people who havegone before us to give us information and support. Yesterday I was seriously considering not doing the lap band. I got on this site and had a lot of response to give me encouragement. I think we just don't understand it all. This morning I am 75% yes and 25% no. Wish time would go faster. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
  6. I am having the same problem right now. They have not given me a date yet, but the more I learn the more second thoughts I have. Like you, I think if the band is so restrictive and one is forced to eat less. Why couldn't a person do this on their own. I can't imagine how a person can get enough nutrition to be healthy when only eating half a cup of food. So much we don't understand until we actually do it. Just seems easier to go on a diet with diet pills than to have the surgery. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Sorry I am not very positive right now.
  7. I have been having lots of leg cramps and muscle spasms in my back. I went to GNC , they told me to take protein with potassium. I am 5 days out from doing this and most of the cramps are gone. Body builders know what they are talking about. Good luck! Let us know.
  8. Wecome to this great site! Now lets hope you don't talk yourself out of it by the time they give you a date. LOL Its so good to talk to people in their 60's that are having the surgery. I am 60 as of last April. Thats a hard number to say.
  9. Good luck on the surgery. Let us all know how it goes for you. I am waiting for a date on my lap band and have so many doubts right now. Just afraid of the unknown. The surgery doesn't bother me, its the knew lifestyle that I have a problem with.
  10. Hi sharon. I am need to this site. Like yourself i am a grandma of 9 with only one being a girl. I love my grandkids! Two of mine live across the street. Revolving door at our house! Love it! I am 60 years old and at 242 lbs. July 29th I go for my consultation and get everything rolling. Nice to see other people my age are doing this. I want to be healthy and enjoy every day to its fullest. Nice to meet you! Susan P
  11. Hi Susana. Good luck on the new band. I am new also and go for my consultation on July 29th to start things rolling. I know how you feel. I am 60 and the first time in my life feel the oldest of something. Depressing isn't it? My body looks older than 60 but my mind is 25!
  12. Thanks again! I went to a siminar last night and found the truth about the hair loss. Doctor said if you don't eat the protein advised by the doctor then that happens. If you do as told, no problem with that. Does anyone worry about care after age 65 up? From what I understand the doctors don't like to treat or operate on persons over age 65. Anyone have news about this subjuect?
  13. Doddie what happens when you get a cold and have a lot of coughing? You are so helpful! I am at 238 lbs. right now. I think probable 90-100 lbs. for me. Oh by the way, you live in country I hope to visit someday! Susan
  14. Thank you Doddie. I am in the search stage. Afraid of what I don't know. You seem to be doing very very well. I know you are so proud of what you have achieved. sleeping with a c-pap is not fun and thats just the beginning of health problems. I have to do something drastic or it will never happen. I wonder what food could possible fit thru the narrow opening to the stoma. If the hole is no bigger than a pencil. Wow that is small. Thanks so much for your support and information. Susan
  15. Hi Rachel, I am new also. I am not a focused person on dieting. I keep thinking if a person can go on a liquid diet for nearly 4 weeks than why can't I do this without the band? Seems this is much stricter than any diet. I too am afraid I will fail and then go thru all of the surgery for nothing. You sure have your hands full girl! Ofcourse weight loss will be very good for your health problem and taking care of your parents. Good luck.
