    Casco Bay/ MMC Bariatrics anyone??

Good Lord! What did you need the barium swallow for? Sounds yucky! Can I ask who your insurance company is - I'd be interested to make sure this doesn't happen to me!

    Starting Again

Had been scheduled to see doc back in September, but then the 'ole gall bladder acted up and I had surgery in October. 10 days later, my husband broke his leg and tore the tendons in his ankle and my life went on hold. Today, he was given the go ahead to drive - he was excited and I was THRILLED! It's been a long couple of months for both of us and I'm ready to get back to MY life and make MY dream of losing weight a reality. Sooooo, now I have another nutritionist appt this month and hoping to get a doctor's appt soon!!

    Casco Bay/ MMC Bariatrics anyone??

Hey "wicked!" I am just getting back into the process - I've seen the social worker and nutritionist in the fall but since I delayed the surgery, I have to see the nutritionist again before seeing the surgeon. I personally liked meeting with the social worker - she gave me great insight into the weight loss journey and it was fun talking to someone who didn't know me (like friends & family) and who could be objective about my reasons for wanting the surgery. Who is your surgeon? I was just curious if someone has discussed all the medical expenses you are going to incur? I've been on other "banding" boards and some people are paying thousands of dollars out of pocket after the first year for fills, etc. Have you heard anything?

    Wii Fit

Julie, I've been researching the WII Fit and wondered....do you have to have something else to connect it to other than a TV? Sorry for being so dense, but how does it work? Thanks so much! Gaila
  8. Hi Dayle, I'm just getting ready to approach the insurance approval phase. It should be interesting. I have about 120 pounds to lose so I am also looking forward to moving to the new me! It's funny you should mention the food chewing......I just started doing the same thing and couldn't believe how fast I was eating. It's definitely a good idea to start making those behavorial changes now - would love to chat with you through your process since we're around the same age, etc. Are you interested? Best of luck! date scheduled

Congratulations! Can I ask what Kind of "diet" Aetna made you pursue before approving your surgery? I'm almost up to the insurance approval phase and just want to know what to expect.......the best of luck with your weight loss journey! Gaila
  10. Hi All, I have been pursuing the lap band surgery for the past 9 months. I have completed all requirements and attended the first support group meeting just to get an idea of how people are responding to the surgery. Unfortunately, it was a 50 to 5 ratio of pre-op to post-op, but while I gathered some good info, it still hasn't convinced me that this is the right way for me to go. All I know is that I'm 56 years old with an 80 year old looking body and a 30 year old mentality ~~ I have to lose weight and maybe this is my only chance! Would love to hear from post-op folks - your successes, your challenges, your frustrations..... It's important to hear it all! Also, for those who have been post-op for several years, it would be interesting to know if at some point, there becomes a time that you can eat "normally" again...... Thanks so much! Gaila from Maine:biggrin2:

    Lap Band or Bust

Paula, Thanks so much for replying.....you have made me feel very optimistic about having the surgery. Do you have any do's or don'ts to share as I proceed to the pre-op stage? I would really appreciate your help! Thanks so much! Gaila
