Threestacks86 got a reaction from immichou in Any December surgeryDecember 11th GASTRIC BYPASS -
Threestacks86 reacted to GradyCat in Working out?It varies from person to person. You have to wait at least a month for the incision to heal and not lift much. You can do small walks and stretches but hold off on cardio and strength training for about 6 weeks.

you know you are a bariatric patient when you look at a "normal" plate of food and calculate how many meals this will be for you !

Threestacks86 got a reaction from GradyCat in Pre-Op DietI’m sorry not really recipes but stuff you did to get you through the liquid phase of the pre op and post op part. -

Threestacks86 reacted to GradyCat in Loose skinI only lost 65 pounds (so far) but my skin didn't get loose and floppy.
-
Threestacks86 reacted to GreenTealael in Loose skinPlastic surgery is a total game changer when it comes to fixing very loose skin but you may not need it.
Try to focus on the positive changes you'll experience from WLS and cross that bridge when you get there.

Threestacks86 got a reaction from ChubRub in Loose skinLol most definitely -
Threestacks86 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Loose skinI completely understand! Thank you thank you -
Threestacks86 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Loose skinLol yes I’m sure it’s a popular question but I would definitely take the loose skin over being obese -
Threestacks86 reacted to New&Improved in Picky eaterThat's a very subjective question every body will have different experiences me personally I had very little urge to eat for months and my shakes kept me happy for months...

Threestacks86 reacted to AmyNay strong in Picky eaterI am a picky eater - it is a texture thing for me. I am worried that after surgery I will get so burnt out on the same foods.

Threestacks86 got a reaction from Suzi_the_Q in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20Sooooo I was called today and I was given my surgery date of 12/11/20. What are some tips? Things to expect, what to do and not to do?!?!?! I’m super excited. -
Threestacks86 reacted to ms.sss in Loose skinLoose skin is pretty much a given with drastic weight loss for most. Like what @AZhiker said, it may not bother you either immediately or eventually.
On the other hand (a la @ChubRub) IF it is in your means to do so, then getting the plastic surgery is a total game changer, in my opinion.
I am thoroughly satisfied with my plastics-provided flat tummy, skinny arms and gravity-defying boobs, lol. But I do still have a saggy butt and soft-looking inner thighs...but I can live with those just fine.
Whatever your path, my guess is you will look AND feel better than you do now with the excess weight, loose skin or not.
Good Luck!

Threestacks86 reacted to AZhiker in Loose skinThis has been addressed in a lot of threads. If you do a search, you will find more info than you ever wanted to know. After losing more than a hundred pounds at age 62, yes I had (and still have loose skin.) however, by 6 months post op and even more by a year post op, a lot of it sort of tightened up. My arms are not as floppy. Neither are my thighs, neck, for belly. My boobs never came back - still rocks in socks. I went from a 44DD to 34 A, and they hang down to my elbows. Many people really get obsessed with it and it is all they can see. I was in that camp, too, but other people didn't seem to notice as much as I did, and sooooo many people said I looked great and actually looked younger. I do not begrudge any one for getting plastic surgery after WLS, but I do recommend that you wait a year, for a couple of reasons. First, your skin will tighten up a bit on its own. Second, you are going to feel differently about it. Plastics was all I could think about for a while, and then my brain caught up with my body and I started feeling better about my NEW body and all it could do, sags and all. It doesn't matter at all to me now. A good bra and well fitted clothing do wonders. I will never wear a bikini and at my age, I am not trying to attract attention from anyone, and I have truly learned to be comfortable with what I have. You are going to have sags and loose skin. There is no getting around that. But it is not something to be terrified of! Be terrified of dying from the complications of morbid obesity! Having a new body that can do literally anything you want, with a few sags is way better than smooth skin and being obese. It's all a matter of perspective, but give yourself time to figure that out.

Threestacks86 reacted to GradyCat in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20Oh it's so exciting when you get a surgery date, isn't it? Pack light for the hospital, just a phone/charger, lip balm, comb, and maybe some body lotion. You won't need pajamas or anything really. You'll be pretty nauseous for 24 hours afterward. Walk as much as you can to get the gas out and keep your mind off the nausea. Be patient with yourself.

Threestacks86 reacted to CWeaver60 in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20Congratulations on your surgery date! That's awesome. My gastric sleeve surgery was on 10/28. I was so worried about multiple things I read that other people experienced I almost changed my mind. I am so glad I didn't. I was in the hospital for 2 nights. The only tough time I had was immediately after surgery when waking up. Extreme nausea which they dealt with very, very quickly. I didn't have gas pains or problems with swallowing. I can't say enough positive things about my experience thus far. I'm really, really grateful. I 1000% agree with not weighing yourself after surgery. My weight was higher and I didn't begin to show a loss for about a week or so. That can be a tad discouraging. In summary, stay focused on why you have made this decision and know that everyone's experience is different. Blessings to you on your journey!

Threestacks86 reacted to SAS11 in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20I was told to expect a two-night stay, and it turned out to be two nights and the entire next day. Stabilizing my electrolytes and heart rate took some extra time. I think the hospital where I was treated tells everyone at least 2 nights for bypass. But I’ve seen some people on here say that they stayed only one night. -
Threestacks86 reacted to SAS11 in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20I had my gastric bypass on 11/03. Although I don’t want to negate the advice to definitely walk after surgery, I think I’d advise listening to your body. I wasn’t able to walk after surgery because I got my period within an hour of waking up after. It was miserable because it was a particularly rough period, so I spent my entire hospital stay in bed and in pain. If you’re not able to walk after, it’s okay. The gas pain might hang around for a bit longer, but definitely don’t try movement too early if it makes you lightheaded or if it increases your heart rate rapidly (which happened with me).
My other advice is to take fluids gradually once you’re allowed them. The hospital where I was treated had a fluids challenge that let me work up slowly from 1 oz of water over an hour to 4 oz of protein drink over an hour. It was hard for me not to treat that like a competition. There’s no competition. Find a good pace for yourself as you begin to self-hydrate.
And something I learned on this discussion board: you will be heavier for the first several days home than you were when you went into surgery. This is just fluid weight from your IV in the hospital and isn’t real. So don’t weigh yourself for at least your first week home. -
Threestacks86 reacted to JoanneLaRusch in Gastric bypass- 12/11/20Well first. Congrats in your date! My number one advice is definitely walk after surgery! The gas pain you feel, in your upper chest, arms, etc, is super uncomfortable. And the best way to get rid of it is walking little by little.
