  1. Does anyone know if having a band causes problems scuba diving? Im thinking about the pressure of being underwater. Julia x
  2. Hi, ive just had my band tightened and since its been done ive been suffering from continual reflux at night. once it starts it really is nonstop and im coughing and clearing my throat all night ( think its acid reflux, its def not sliming, food, or PBing). Im getting no sleep and its wearing me down. has anyone else had this and if so how did you remedy it? its literally just started and ive had my band nearly a year. i think im gonna have an emergency unfill but before i do i thought it wouod be good to get some feedback from the forum Thanks everyone Julia
  3. Dr Chris did my gastric band and I am very happy with it and him! I now need a tummy tuck and just wondered if anyone has had one with him? Im very keen to get some feedback. Thank you! Julia

    needing some kind of.. reassurance

Hi Bubz I hope ur day has got a bit better! Just to encourage u really, each stage seems like forever but it is worth it! My doc said the definition of 'fluid' is anything u can drink thru a straw so think of some yummy stuff u can reat urself to.. nice fruity smoothies, juices? u'll lose a load of weight on the liquid stage so it'll give u a really good boost in the right direction and makethe boredom worth it. Ive had my band coming up to 5 months and although ive been pleased with it from the beginning its only now that Im really getting in the swing of things after having regular fills for the last 4months. I love it!! I really wish u well and every success! Julia
  5. Last night i had a scuba lesson and it was the 1st time Ive been down to any significant depth. Since then I have got a pulsating sensation next to my port (its to my right of the port , above my belly button and its deep down inside). its not painful just annoying as it's constant, pulsating every second. It feels like an air bubble thats trapped. its not so noticeable when Im moving around but when Im lying down still it is very noticeable and the continual pulsating stopped me from sleeping. Im really worried. Has anyone had anything like this after scuba diving with a band? Julia

    Not feeling it!

it might take several band fills before u experience a decent restriction. it seems like ages while ur waiting but u will get there eventually. I had my band 3 months ago, have just had my 3rd fill and is only just feeling tighter and giving me a good restriction now. you'll get there, just be patient! julia

    12 cc band...no restriction

Hi Lynne I was banded a few weeks before you and have had 2 fills so Ive not got a lot of experience. But what i will say is that my doc told me that most people on average need about 4 fills to get a good restriction. I know its prob not wot u want to hear but I think the word here is patience!! My doc tells me Ive been expecting too much too soon and I must be patient, it will come good!
  8. Hi im 2 months post op,all's been going ok up until now. I get food stuck from time to time but after the usual pain, PBing, and sliming etc it eventually passes and things return to normal, except for yesterday. Some food got stuck at lunchtime and it was a much longer more painful bout than I've experienced before. I was in too much residual discomfort to even think about eating anything else yesterday so only had a drink. Anyway, today I felt fine when i woke up until I went to have my porridge at Breakfast...one teaspoon and then the pain started so I chucked it all away. At lunchtime I thought I'd try a bit of yogurt ( more liquidy) I had a few teaspoons and was in agony. Eventually after 30 mins of pain, Pbing, sliming etc I threw it up. What is going on? I am really worried something bad has permanently happened to damage my band since nothing will go down now. I'm worrying about the vomiting, will that have caused a slip? And I'm worrying I'm going to need another op to sort out the problem . has anyone experienced this? I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone who's had the same thing happen to them. thanks guys Julia
  9. I cant believe it, it's gone! I can eat again! the foods going down ok now, oh what joy!!! I couldnt eat for 3 days and then all of a sudden it went. Crikey, something must have been well and truly stuck down there. Anyway panic over, I'm off to have my porridge for breakfast! Thanks again everyone for replying to my original post. very grateful to you all. Julia
  10. I got hold of my doc who said exactly what you've all been saying...strict liquid for several days. He also said if liquid wont go down then to get an unfill urgently but I'm ok with thin fluid. Thanks again everyone for your help. Julia
  11. thanks everyone for your advice and support. this is such a great website. i'm very grateful. julia x

  13. Hi I am having a bad couple of days if I'm honest. The scales have hardly moved over the last few weeks despite eating sensibley and getting plenty of exercise. I know the bands not a magic cure or anything but neverthe less I am feeling disappointed and frustrated. Anyway, the last few days Ive eaten chocolate and my healthy food plan has gone right out the window. Of course now I feel even worse :smile2: what a surprise! I would really appreciate some encouragement /support from any of you out there to help me keep on keeping on with what I know is a long road ahead of me. Thank you! Julia xx

    3 days post op

Hi Amanda Try not to worry.I know its easier said than done! in my first couple of weeks after being banded I didnt feel hungry at all and to be honest the desire to eat just disappeared which was just fantastic! ( it did come back unfortunately!) My doc said to have fluids for 2 wks post op and by fluids that included Soups, yogurt, and porridge so it was pretty easy to stick to. My new stomach pouch could hold 100mls so I made sure not to consume any more than that in one go. Even though I wasnt hungry I made myself have my 'meals' regularly and forced myself to drink plenty of Water. I was drinking water constantly in order to get enough down, which wasnt easy but it is important coz without enough you'll be dehydrated and feel ill. I learned the hard way! Anyway, congratulations on getting through your surgery, Ihope you recover well. All the best on your new journey julia

    RE: Lettuce?

Hi I was worried I wouldnt be able to eat salad too but I have no problem. I've had 1 fill so far and can eat most things and certainly lettuce and all the other salad foods are completely fine. I can also eat crunchy apples and fruit aswell so long as I chew each bite thoroughly. So good luck and dont worry, just try a little bit one small bite at a time and you'll soon feel more confident.
  17. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I need to know do about scuba diving with my gastric band? Just normal PADI basic diving. Its not going to explode or anything is it?! :smile2:

    scuba diving with a lapband?

thanks for that, I appreciate your reply.Did you need to tell the scuba diving instructors or whoever that youve got the band or does it make no difference to anyone?
  22. Hi , I could do with some advice please! its been 4 wks since I was banded. I had a very good restriction initially and lost 11 pounds. The last 2 weeks I have been able to eat a fair bit more (still smaller portions than pre band) and although I am being very , careful and sensible with my food choices and exercising regularly I havnt lost any more at all. I dont understand why. I would say that I'm probably consuming around 1300 cals or less a day so i really woulod have thought I'd be losing slowly but steadily. Do you think that when i get my 1st fill this week it will make a difference? I'd really like a good restriction coz at the mo it feels like the bands not there. julia x
  23. oh no! i am gutted for you. I justcant understand how can that be? I wish you all the best and hope the weight starts coming off soon Julia
